I grew up with John in Birmingham, we had the same coach. Ironically I always beat him in free skate and he beat me in dance in those early days. He went on to win multiple championships and I won Worlds as a dancer. He was an amazing skater and a great friend. Graceful, stylish, athletic. But always a classy guy. I miss him. His impact on Figure Skating was immense. Never be another like the great John Curry.
Long glides...various spins in both directions...arabeques...an occasional smile...amazing footwork..spread eagle...less than five simple jumps... Magnificent! Bravo Curry!
I saw Curry do this item at Queen's in London. I was entranced especially by the spin sequence where he does each variety on both sides, Skating with hands behind back is to dangerous! Curry was magnificent. A true artist.
magnificent...spinning in both directions...one of the few skaters able to do this And that many variations. One cam see by his smile he loved this routine So dynamic .His speed and fluidity unmat.ched. miss him.
John Curry is magic! Watching him skate gives me enormous enjoy, it's elation. So good to know that there are other people who share the love and appreciate of John's art! Thank you for posting!
@@quillerpen It is amazing how a lot of skaters used John Curry's music. When he skated to Spartacus, I was thinking of MK too. Sad that he isn't recognized more these days so the younger generation can learn about him.
Rohene Ward could spin and do triple jumps in both directions and was trained in ballet. He could never get his nerves under control though. I think he still does choreography.

Glad you enjoyed it. What I didn't tell you - and always gives me a thrill - is that the flowers he picks up at the end were thrown by me!
John Curry....always brilliant. Thanks for this!
A genius on ice. A wonderful ice skater, the best ever.
Thank you for sharing this magic moment with us.

Are you kidding? Like HIM--never another. You can HAVE all those quads and loud music!!! He is alone on the summit and always will be.
Best skater never given true reconision for the skater he was
He was so remarkable.
wonderful spins...both ways
.positioning and sustained spirals..dont see that anywheres and definately todays skaters could never do this.
He truly was the Rudolf Nureyev of the skating world. This was more a history of ballet!
Amazing! The first music sounded like the music Brian Boitano used for his SP 1988.
Yes, Boitano also used Meyerbeer's 'Les Patineurs' for hs SP. I would guess he had seen this version by John.

Прекрасный Джон Карри.ЛЕГЕНДА.

@floskate thought you might like to see this? Historical context - clever idea for a piece 🙂🙌
Don't worry; Floskate & I are old friends!
@@quillerpen Cool - hey, didn’t John Curry work/take ballet with Sir Anthony Dowell at some point? Or am I imagining that?
Unalloyed beauty--poetry in motion, to use a tired phrase!
I don't bother to watch anyone else - there would be no purpose.
DennisBetts1 yeah you should watch other skaters
