With TVs, I think they're less "spy" and more "retarded". I don't have a TV, but the "smart TVs" I've seen slow to a crawl over time as software is updated.
@@ordinaryhuman5645 they’re spyware as well as ad delivery devices. Can’t load up the Netflix app in less than 20 seconds but you’re guaranteed an ad when the tv first starts up.
Smart thermostats seem pretty silly, but a simple programmable one to reduce energy usage overnight is a nice improvement over the really basic ones. But you don't need it to be any "smarter" than that.
I got one and get the rebates... its only 4 wires I bypass when needed. If they say anything about it I tell them the thermostat They installed must be defective which looks to be coasting more money and time what are you going to do to fix this problem you gave to me?
Hell yes I agree with you! I just bought another home and the builder wanted to put in $12k worth of smart junk so that I can live wondering where there's somebody's peering in to my home through my cameras and the things like you described. I invite anyone to watch the movie 1984 from the book. George Orwell wrote it. People are pissing their freedoms away in favor of convenience and it's not going to end well. Thanks Troy for speaking now!
YES-- I've been trying to talk my SIS into getting RID of "ALEXA".. and my security system- cameras etc. was made to work WITH Alexa- but I'm NOT using it... I"ve had enough govt. BS...
Apparently volvo cars are unsafe for wealthy business owners and public officials. Now THATS espionage. As in 100% malicious. Ty for the heads up about the bs thermostats. You really are the best!
I don't blame people for getting stuff like Ring necessarily, but I think people are suckers if they don't think they're being spied upon with these gadgets. The big hotness in the Silicon Valley world is not software or hardware, but buying and selling people's data.
We purchased our Ecobee from Costco and we live just outside Denver CO. Xcel energy has overrided our settings "temporarily". Here's where I see that a platform like Home Assistant is worth giving me back control thats otherwise being taken from me.
I am lightly dabbling in Linux tbh I try not to stress myself with it and just look around to play games on my steam deck. Honestly the only reason I’m not messing with files more is I don’t wanna break anything it’s something I’m always fearful of
My simple rule "smart = spy"

@@ordinaryhuman5645 where I live it's impossible to get non smart tvs with high resolution
Why are you connecting a tv to the internet? Treat it like a computer monitor.

You will own nothing and be happy. They are doing this on purpose.

"Smart" is fine-- as long as it's NOT connected to anything or any other service anywhere else. (isolated JUST to your home- period)

Why aren't these scams a criminal offense, while others are? And if it is, why aren't you people suing them already?

This sounds like another only in America thing.

Honeywell has a nice thermostat that you can program yourself...that is all you need...
The rebate game is just bait and switch...
Trust your instincts and do a little research first..
Very good information and important message.

Don't even get me started on "smart homes"
Shit like this must be shut down asap
Linux Mint...this is only that i need...
Company: "Prices are good now. At least for us. Let's fire up a few thousand thermostat". Great new world. But the masses are dumb. What can you do
