It's taken me the best part of the afternoon and evening, but with your brilliant tuition, I've got it!!! What do I like? You go slowly. You explain clearly. You don't assume I knew anything about this technique before now. The camera view is perfect. You constantly show how the work looks. You show very very clearly where to put the needle. You repeat the process several times, so that I was able to keep working through the steps without having to rewind the video after each sequence. I have now completed the neck of the gansey I am making, and I'm delighted with the result. Thankyou
I come back to this video every time I have a 2x2 rib project, no other cast off looks better than this! Thank you for posting this, what an amazing resource. Hope it never goes offline!
Thank you for taking the time to create a very helpful tutorial to bind-off in 2x2 without having to change the stitches to 1x1. :) Your instructions are clear, easy to understand and follow.
I agree with what’s already been said here: This is the best knitting tutorial I’ve ever seen. Your explanations, the pacing, the camera angles, yarn choice-all perfect! Thank you so much for sharing this and making the process so clear.
Wow at first I was like “this is so complicated how on earth am I going to do this” but your instructions were so clear and you also explained why we were doing things (for example: doing purl on a knit because it was the first time, and such) and the yarn you used was so easy to see. And now the edge on my sweater is so clean and just perfect!!!!!!! Thanks!
Thanks! I have sieved through many books and videos, trying to learn this cast-off method for my sweater but each time I gave up because I couldn't get the hang of it. Finally found your video and what a Godsend! After a few trials and errors, I managed to complete my sweater. Happy!
Brilliant, thank you! It looked complicated at first, but the video made it easy to learn in no time. I will definitely use this again. I found it easier to memorise if I flipped the wrong side out in every other stitch. Then you'll always connect the next two knit stitches - sometimes side by side, sometimes over purl stitches. The most difficult part was to "find" the dropped stitches. A lifeline in contrasting sewing thread helped to point and pull them out
Excellent. Thank you very much. Please never delete this amazing set of instructions. So much better than using a book, and in any case, books don’t have instructions for 2x2 rib. Looks so much better than standard bind offs for neckbands! Thank you so much!
Thank you, Bridget, so much for your feedback! I appreciate your comments. (And you do it very kindly, also.) They help me to understand what works better for my viewers. I am a new blogger. :)))
Thank you! This tutorial is comprehensive with concise written instructions on the screen as the process is demonstrated slowly, repeatedly and always with a clear view of the work. I also enjoyed the soothing voice of Irina Revo. Highly recommended!
What a great video! I was able to do it myself after 3 repeats, and continue working the rest of my collar. It is stretchy enough and not too loose like I usually do my cast-off collars. Many thanks for the tutorial!
Binding off always takes a long time but this is by far the quickest bind-off I've ever done. The video was super clear, I was able to follow along and understand the repetition by the end of it.
Thank you for you very well done instruction. You show very clearly and slowly which part of the stitches to use. I appreciate your video as it is so helpful toget a good result for my work.
EXCELLENT! The written plus verbal & visual on slightly slower than normal playback speed is perfect! This is the ONLY demo I’ve found for 2x2. THANK YOU!!
Thankyou! This was a brilliant tutorial! The soothing voice, the pace, and number of repeats, and the explanation made it easy to understand and memorize.
You have made a really clear presentation here, but I can’t lie, this cast off has done me in for the night! I think trying to do it for the first time on my multi-color handspun was not the best idea. A solid color basic yarn in a light color is the way to learn this, for sure!
Thank you very much for your excellent video. Your explanations are very clear and make it so easy to do a tubular bind off for rib 2/2 Instead of having to change them into rib 1/1😁😁😁😁
Thank you for this great video and a lovely way of binding off 2x2 ribbing. It’s a complicated process, but you explain it so clearly and so well. The video has just the right number of repetitions to learn it, and the filming is perfect.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful bind off! You are an excellent instructor!!! This video could not be better-you work slowly, explain every step, the camera view is perfect, and you have the written instructions included on the video....perfect!!! I hope you do more please💗🧶
Irina, I really appreciate your work, including this jogless sewn BO technique! I used to look at various knitters for instruction videos, but now I only look to you - you have the cleanest, most innovative, & easy-to-follow techniques. I struggled through your early silent instruction videos, and want to add that your English is now great - you've learned very quickly! I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Followed this video for the whole edge of my sweater collar and I like the outcome! Thank you for a great video. Rewatched probably a dozen times while I knit through all my stitches haha
This is super helpful and detailed! I am doing this with boucle yarn which is so difficult to determine stitches with so I've been using different colored bulb stitch markers to differentiate between the knit and purl stitches I've slipped off.
This is the BEST tutorial for this bind off I have seen. I still would not bow able to do it without the tutorial on loop though! :) Thank you so much.
Thank you very much! The bind-off is the same regardless what tools you used for circular knitting. All you need is a blunt tapestry needle and just follow the steps.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm fairly new to knitting and your tutorial was easy to follow and exactly what I needed! The result is so so beautiful!
This is a beautiful finish! I will definitely be using your videos on my next sweater project which I'll be starting quickly since I can't wait to try this technique! Thank you so much for taking the time to instruct:)
15:10 I have a question. You said knitwise on the first stitch and purlwise on the second but isn’t it purlwise both of them? I’m confused about that part. Other than that, watching this video two times saved my knitting life. You’re my savior!!
Thank you so much for this video! Just wanted to knw if this bind off is really stretchy? as I am finishing a very tight sweater and need the bind off to be very stretchy.
Hi Gabriela, I think this bind off is medium stretchy (a bit less stretchy than the invisible 2x2 cast-on). If the neck opening is very narrow (like in a tight turtleneck) - it might not suit.
Oh wow, this is brilliant. Thank you so much. Is this adaptable for 2x2 tubular bind-off for flat knitting? I'm about to start binding off for the hem of a cardigan, so the pattern is 2x2 rib with one extra knit stitch on either side for the button band pickup. If you have any advice on how to apply this method it would be appreciated. I think just the set-up and final stitches would be different, but I can't seem to visualize it. Thank you :)
Thank you, Julie! Check out my playlist: RIBBING - all knitting tips, tricks and techniques. ua-cam.com/play/PLemrxm_bPteU5xrHEsilVefg-9kE3erB4.html I have tubular and non-tubular 2x2 there, mostly in the round though. There is one video that is flat 1x1 where you can view three options for the set-up/start. So you can start the first stitches like I show and continue as a 2x2. I hope it will help.
Do you have a tutorial for doing this flat like for a split hem? Or could you decsribe what would change when you don't do the set up step of binding off the last and first stitches?
Hello, check out this video INVISIBLE ribbed BIND OFF for rib 1x1 with a tapestry needle - 3 positions of SELVEDGE stitches ua-cam.com/video/8dAvI_NKCWM/v-deo.html. You can use the ideas for binding off the 1st and last stitches.
Thank you for an interesting question! I haven’t tried yet, but will look into it. Meanwhile, an easy way might be to switch from K1P2 (or any other rib) to one round of K1P1 and do a tubular bind off for rib 1x1. It looks very good. Please check out the Bind Offs playlist for Tubular bind off for rib 1x1. :)
i just started knitting and this helped me so much! i have a question! i made 2x1 (2 k 1 p) ribbing, if i try this technique, should i jump the 4° step?
I haven’t tried it with 2x1 ribbing. The main principles are here 2:31 min. I would try on a swatch first. For any ribbing other than 1x1, 2x2 or 3x3 you may need to use some other binding off method.
Hello, thank you for your questions! I think, I should make a video on that as it's difficult to explain with words. One easy way would be to work the very last round as a regular 2x2 rib and bind off like in this video. It would match with an Italian c/o: I made recently one sweater neck with a twisted 1x1 double sided rib (both knit and purl stitches) - I did Italian c/o, 1st row regular, started twisted from the second round. It's not as "sharp" defined as a twisted from the start, but looks very neat. I will plan to make a video for the twisted 2x2 from c/o to b/o.
Hi Cedric, I am back to my full-time job after the long lockdowns and have unfortunately much less time to process the videos as quickly as I wish. I very much appreciate your interesting request, but just need time. When ready I will upload right away. :)
Thank you for the video, the bind- off is beautiful. If I am working with two strands of aran weight yarn held double, would you recommend using just one, or both strands for the bind -off? Also , do you recommend going down a needle size on the last round of ribbing prior to casting off?
I am so glad you like it, Amanda! I usually use the same yarn thickness for b/o and the same needle size for the last round. If there are no problems with the yarn, such as heavy texture for example, I wouldn’t change anything.
@@irinarevo First cuff is done and looks great! I made a mistake at some point, so it isn't perfect- but I think its one of those things only I will notice. The second sleeve is going to go much easier now that I have the rhythm down and I cant wait to finish up that sleeve and get to the next bind off. I kept your video on as I went and it was so easy to follow and the perfect pace as I worked :)
Check out here: INVISIBLE ribbed sewn BIND OFF for rib 1x1 - JOGLESS joining in the Round, using a tapestry needle. ua-cam.com/video/7Whxx9jVZcU/v-deo.html
Yes, after you finished the 4x2 rib you can switch to a 1x1 rib and do a tubular bind-off. For example, I show in this video how to switch from a 2x2 to a 1x1 and do a tubular bind off: ua-cam.com/video/K6D7AIlJRxg/v-deo.html The 1x1 rib will be almost invisible and you will get a neat tubular edge.
@@irinarevo That's kind of what I was thinking~I've just never done an Italian or a tubular bind off before so I wasn't sure. Thanks for your reply,,I'll go check that video right now~!!🌻🥢🧶
Usually your tutorials are very clear to me. For this one, unfortunately, I was unable to use your technique. Taking the stitches half done of the needle was the issue - with thick yarn it might work but with thin yarn I couldn't find the right leg to pick up and evertything messed up. Finally I put left stitches on one needle and wright stitches on second and worked like kitchener stitch
Thick yarn is great for practicing, though. I practice techniques with thick white cotton - it shows all mistakes. Once I "get" it, then I can repeat with any yarn. Thank you for watching my videos!
I don't understand anything. I believe its easier if you don't drop the stitch the first time you work it but the second. I can't find the stitches, it's not to do for me
Try to practice on thick white cotton first to see the stitches clearly. You can also slow down the video. If you have trouble finding the purl stitches (if that's what I think the difficulty is): on the wrong side they look like knit stitches. When binding two purl stitches try to flip the edge down to see the wrong side better, and look at this as binding "two knit stitches", but on the wrong side. Hope this helped.
Like others, I so very much appreciated your calm, clear and unrushed delivery of instructions. I watched and practiced for many hours, but finally…success!! Thank you so much. I highly recommend your instruction.

@@amandab8249 Super! I am so happy to hear about your success!
Is this appropriate to use for the hem of my sweater?
Yes
Can I use these instructions for 1x1?
Check out here: INVISIBLE ribbed sewn BIND OFF for rib 1x1 - JOGLESS joining in the Round, using a tapestry needle.

@@irinarevo thank you!
Is the same process for knitting flat?
Yes, the movements are the same.
Is it possible to do a tubular bind of with a 4x2 ribbing?
Yes, after you finished the 4x2 rib you can switch to a 1x1 rib and do a tubular bind-off. For example, I show in this video how to switch from a 2x2 to a 1x1 and do a tubular bind off: ua-cam.com/video/K6D7AIlJRxg/v-deo.html The 1x1 rib will be almost invisible and you will get a neat tubular edge.
@@irinarevo That's kind of what I was thinking~I've just never done an Italian or a tubular bind off before so I wasn't sure. Thanks for your reply,,I'll go check that video right now~!!🌻🥢🧶
Is this bind off technique looser or more giving? Like for cotton yarn?
It will be somewhat bouncy with stretchy yarn like wool. Cotton yarn is not stretchy and this edge will be only minimally bouncy.
Очень профессионально. Фабрикантам поучиться.
Спасибо! Ты очень добра! :)))
Very confusing first time thru. But I’m not one to give up.
Don’t give up! 😀

I am so glad the video helped! Thank you so much, Janet, for your feedback! I practice myself a lot too.
