    Good Video.
Yes that switch is "Repeat/Timer" selection switch. It looks like previous owner did not read owners manual so he or someone disconnected the record at connector thus disabling recording.
For "Normal" Playback , recording etc, the switch should be in OFF.
For Repeat Playback ( gets to end , rewinds, starts again) then put switch in "AUTO REPEAT".
The other switch positions are for TIMER PLAY and TIMER RECORD which will start PLAY or RECORD at set times - as long as you have the optional AUDIO TIMER separate unit.. That's why when you had it in REC switch position the deck was starting in REC...
For the new owner, the owners manual is available at most sites for free download...

Great job hunting down the fault. Seems it was worked on by someone else and you had to figure out what they undid 🙃. It looked like this could have become a rabbit hole at the beginning. Nice effort getting it repaired!!👍 Good thing you were able to find schematics. I've been trying to repair 2 control boards for days, no schematics, I must be nuts!! 🤯🥴

@@SOSfixElectronics Pool robots - One is Hayward rc97404xln control board, the other Aquabot OL-AQ11070W100(I just gave up on it today - microcontroller not putting out required voltage) and 😖..a Seiki se39he02 TV (have standby voltage but board will not turn on, it's an all on one board. 🥴I have no LVDS voltage, no VHG/VHL voltage & wondering if might be a bad panel?) I tried a replacement board from Aliexpress but it still acts the same way.
