    18:08 I use a regular piece of paper with contact cleaner sprayed on, sandpaper ruins the contact surface (plating). Good luck.

    I have a DR3, great little machine I love it. I bought 2 Sony 611’s 3 head machines after watching your videos, both super condition around the cases but not working. Both Sonys Sold as spares on marketplace (find it cheaper than eBay) did the belts etc and now have 2 great Sony machines. I can’t sell them though, they are so nice so I have a cluster of decks.
    I’ve started buying DAT machines as well, so bloody addictive. Same sort of problems as the cassette decks. I just bought a Sony A8 dat as spares parts. It is wonderful condition, found the cam had slipped on the tape loader, set it back into the right location greased it up….bingo perfect. I have also found I can record from my Wiim streamer into the dat with a coax connection, so all digital.

      I was thinking of picking a DAT up mainly because I wasn't too impressed with minidisk. Maybe I'm the future!

      @@pwrestoration yes good call. I have seen some Sonys going for mad money, but realistic is more like £200 I think anyway. I have a Sony A8, A6, 700 seriesES, and a tascam 30. Can’t tell the difference in sound at all. I also found tapes can be cheap if you buy the data tapes they last longer are more robust and don’t have music written on them…….
      It’s great to be able to tape digitial from a streamer, my wife says ‘why do that you can stream it’ which is 100% correct, I say ‘because I can’ it’s also nice to just drop a mix tape in rather than muck about with the iPhone etc.

    i bought last tuesday a still in the box nakamichi DR-10 in champagne ,but the brand is huge and where the cassette is inserted but on top of it and it looks a lot like this but a 3 head deck, it cost me 500€, but it works like new and released in 99 i thought the last was released in the 90´s but refering to the cassette deck 1, that with no doubt is the best nakamichi deck i ever had i took a great care of it and it works, today, the dr-3 , as you can see have the same display in the front as others. The CR-7a is also a great deck but in the summer i never play anything there

    which oil are you using for the capstan?
    i was looking videos on oiling the motor on dual 1219 turntables and somehow ended up here lol. you seem to really know what you are doing. I have been wondering if 10W-40 could also be used on other moving parts on the turntable or even on my tape decks.

    I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the top of this unit. How did you do it? I took out the 3 screws on each side and the two on the rear. It seems like the front of the case is some how secured beneath the faceplate. What am I missing?
    Edit: I got it, it was some sort of adhesive

    • @pwrestoration
      @pwrestoration  Рік тому

      From memory it doesn't go under the faceplate, screws off the back and sides, pull the sides out a little and lift straight up.

      Good luck

      @@pwrestoration i´ve got it wrong ,the CR-3 is already a 3head recorder ,the BX-2 no monitor on it , but maybe the best deck nakamichi ever made it´s the only i own that never went to another country to be fixed just new belts and good to go again, after remenber it i went looking for it so i can put it to use , but when putting it at my grandparents i lost a key but it was only the glue that with all the years , made it fall didn´t broke nothing ,and it wasn´t lost it fell to the ground after smashing it against the door of the house to sleep there because my mother is already very old and was afraid of people in the midle of the night enter in the house by the backyard ,so i´m sleeping there now, at weekends i take her to my house where she can stay in my guests room, but at this age she don´t want to leave the house where she grew up, so my wife doesn´t mind i ´m sleeping there all week working days, after 9 at night
