  • Episode 4: Tracking drums: Luckily it’s not me keeping a beat. I’m grateful that Evan Mitchell, an incredibly talented drummer and lovely human, shows up each time I ask him to play (and sorry Evan, but one day it’ll be for a live show). “Choose Me (Version I)” is so much better because you were a part of it. Thank you! This episode is also a little more emotional than the others, but hey, that’s a part of life, and sometimes a part of making art. And grief comes up whenever it wants. That’s just how it rolls. Also, I mention another one of my songs, “Drummer in the Band” in this episode. If you’d like to hear it (and see if you agree with the review lol), you can find it on all streaming platforms. We’re less than 2 weeks away from this single’s release. I can’t believe it (mostly because I still need to finish a music video). So, I gotta go.

The Journey to CHOOSE ME project:
Why do we create? Who is it for? Should we let outside opinions influence the work? What the hell am I doing? No, seriously, what the hell am I doing with my life? These are questions that constantly plague me when I’m working on a creative project of any kind.
Last year (and earlier this year) I released some of my music and the songs didn’t get the response I was hoping for. They weren’t “successful”. Needless to say, I had a lot feelings about it. So, I did what helps me most and started writing about it. I then decided I would document the process, from the writing and arranging, to the recording and its upcoming release.
“The Journey to CHOOSE ME” is that documentation. I will share one episode every Wednesday leading up to the release of my new single “Choose Me”. I don’t know if I figured anything out during the process, because I feel like I'm still in it, but I’ll leave that for you to decide.
So if you ever wanted to know what it’s like being a creator (and/or in my head, though sometimes that’s a scary place, so beware), this is for you. It’s raw and vulnerable (hello, no make up) but hopefully it’s funny too. I’m nervous and excited to share it, but it's time to do just that. Hope you join me on the journey, and enjoy! More to come.

@@jeananngarrish your videos are awesome. In the world where we get sympathy faster than empathy, it's not bad to show some love right? Each week i wait for your videos, to learn new stuff, know your mentality before and after your session and it has helped me alot tbh. Thank you for making such videos and giving us insights. ❤️

Art is meant to evoke feeling. When you were talking about the "Drummer in the Band" "review" (3:15), you made me start laughing. Literally less than a minute later (4:05), when you were talking about your Mom, I was tearing up. So there you go. #art

This means so much to me. Thank you for sharing. And I know some people think that art is frivolous, but I think it's truly essential to surviving this thing called life (even if it's not my art lol).
