Omg too funny. And the funny thing is, "I'm telling you now" came on while I was at the grocery store this morning, and I said to myself, that's Herman's hermits !!
It seems like a simple 4-chord song but I don't know if I could play the guitar and do "The Freddie" at the same time especially while holding the revolver to my temple.
I dunno, man, me and my older brother thought this was some pretty funny shit in 1965, when we were 9 and 11. Sure we drove our mom silly as we’d non-stop “Freddie” laughing our asses off!
I actually remember seeing this being performed in 1965 when it was on television! I asked my girlfriend what they were doing, and of course she replied…THE FREDDIE! Memories! 😊
I was shocked to learn----for obvious reasons---that Freddie Garrity was an incredibly GREAT singer. He chose to hide it in his hits but he was a phenomenal singer.
Freddie and the Dreamers never took themselves seriously but they were a great band and Freddie had one hell of a voice.Saw him much later in the 90's and he was still a great singer.R.I.P. Freddie Garrity.
The most inceredible of this song is that they actually reached Number 18 in the US in 1965. The album even included a diagram by dance instructor Arthur Murray depicting their "dance steps"! By the way, they convinced critics that were not simply a freaky dance act when they topped the US charts in 1965 with "I'm Telling You Now", showing in their video more or less these same stupid movements
That first laugh, I swear, has been used in the closing credits of "Comedy Now!" on CTV/Comedy Network here in Canada for years. It's got to be the exact same. Also, I love how goofy this whole thing is, and holy cow, does Freddie ever get some serious air.
I was 15-16 when the Freddie was "big" and , yes, we did it at dances back then. I can't remember if "refreshmets" were available to people dancing the Freddie! My memory says it was a better time back then than current times are.
I requested this song at a friend’s wedding before covid-19 and people thought I went mad when I started the Do the Freddie dance 💃 especially when I cackled!
Freddy doing that goofy dance and singing about himself on how to do "The Freddy". I about puked when he let out that girly giggle! No, I don't ever want to do the Freddy.
This guy was out there when I was a kid just laughed at him till I grew older and realized I could wash & wash and NEVER get rid of the stain in my mind. :( Must have been DEVO rev.1.
I dunno... me and my older brother thought this was some pretty funny shit back in 1965, when we were 9 and 11. I’m pretty sure we drove our mom silly as we’d non-stop “Freddie” laughing our asses off!
As to the comment from two months ago below, lighten up! Freddy was part of the post-Beatles invasion when we still really weren't sure John, Paul, George and Ringo would be sticking around. F & D were a fleeting bit of whimsy that pre-pubescence permitted us to embrace before the world became a very serious place. Whatever Freddy (Garridy? Gallagher?) earned in his 15 minutes, he deserved. He still brings a smile.
Freddie Garrity's horn-rimmed eyeware and curly hair reminded of Buddy Holly (Charles Hardin Holley). Despite the novelty and psychotic laugh, they were underrated as musicians.
I have the feeling that Freddie and the Dreamers knew they were on their way out when they did this performance. Very lackluster. But for us little kids the dance had a big plus: we could all “do the Freddie.” So we did.
I was in the 7th grade, I had the audacity to do this dance and wasn't the least bit embarrassed. I'm 63 now.Only my 7 yr old grandson would understand lol Don't get me wrong I LOVE the song but someone should have shot us for the dance.:o)
In 1964, we knew full well this was silly, "camp", and totally tongue in cheek. The difference is that today, equally "cringey" acts are taken seriously.
I was distracted by those awesome dance moves.....and so didn't even notice the drummer until around the 01:40 mark. PAUSE it anywhere around then....Who does that guy look like?
Troop Beverly Hills brought me here. Hindsight is supposed to be 20/20. How is there so much love for this crap? Goodness gracious people, this is ridiculous...
so I was at school and my teachers kept comparing me to this Freddie guy. I looked him up...my teachers were right! I shall do his iconic laugh at school now
Yep, seems about right for a 1950s dance. Although I think it's more acceptable than "the floss" .. saw a little kid do it and I wanted to kick him in the jaw and tell him to "floss that"...I might be abit of an asshole
Fuck me I thought I was the only one who remembered Ray Liotta doing a bit of this on Conan many years ago. Wasnt it a song or dance about Frankenstein or am I just mis-remembering that part?
I heard Ray Liotta on a radio interview talking about when he first started taking acting lessons in college or something. He had to try out for a musical. Thus, he had to dance. He said the only dance he could remember or knew was "The Freddy" by Freddy & the Dreamers or someone. I had never heard of this group or song, so I had to look it up. After watching this, I'm surprised Liotta got the part in the play he tried out for. LOL. Just from watching this video, I don't know what the song is about....
Oh no! Not the Freddy! They actually did this routine on the Troop Beverly Hills (girl scout) Disney movie from c. 1989. Check it out! Decent, fun film.
"I'm just glad I'm the drummer" - Bernie Dwyer
Lol
That's exactly what I thought about when I saw the thumbnail, "At least the drummer doesn't look a prat 'doing the Freddie'".
He's right you know. Bernie you were a major inspiration when i was just a lad(along with Bobby Eliot) Great Drums!
Great British sound from the 60's. The drummer is outstanding!
LOL!!
These guys make Herman's Hermits look like a Death Metal band.
Zach Scott something tells me you’re up to something good
😂🤣
LOL!!
thats hilarious !
Omg too funny. And the funny thing is, "I'm telling you now" came on while I was at the grocery store this morning, and I said to myself, that's Herman's hermits !!

Lol

Freddie and the dreamers underrated
HAHAHA !
I don't think anyone did the Freddie... except Freddie.
The Dreamers did it too.
Yes, we did. For years.
@@howie9751 I still do. Now I have a hernia
Ray Liotta was on a talk show(I think it was Conan)some years back,he said the Freddie was the only dance he ever learned to do.
I did. They were my favourites. I was 4.
I actually remember seeing this being performed in 1965 when it was on television! I asked my girlfriend what they were doing, and of course she replied…THE FREDDIE! Memories! 😊
56 years later and The Freddie is still the hottest dance in the land!!!
yo i agree no joke im doing the freddie to this day
A class act ! I'm still doing the Freddie, I'll be 70 in November. Long live our CYO teen club dances !
Become the Knight? Yeah me too
oh yeah, i was actually knighted by her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Yep
It’s January 2024 and do the Freddie is the best dance in the town
I was shocked to learn----for obvious reasons---that Freddie Garrity was an incredibly GREAT singer. He chose to hide it in his hits but he was a phenomenal singer.
Any singer would agree that Freddie was a gifted and very underated singer imho (I'm a singer myself and I am amazed by his live performances)
Freddie and the Dreamers never took themselves seriously but they were a great band and Freddie had one hell of a voice.Saw him much later in the 90's and he was still a great singer.R.I.P. Freddie Garrity.
This was nice to read.
A great singer indeed, one of the best
They just had fun, and we did too! 😊
After seeing Troop Beverly Hills so many times I finally decided to look this up! LoL
Kudos to the guys behind, doesn’t seem easy to play guitar while dancing the freddie
Good lord but i'm out of breath from just watching him.
Fabulous! Freddie and the Dreamers were dynamite.
The most inceredible of this song is that they actually reached Number 18 in the US in 1965. The album even included a diagram by dance instructor Arthur Murray depicting their "dance steps"!

now ANYONE can dance! :/ :/
Best song of the sixties.
That first laugh, I swear, has been used in the closing credits of "Comedy Now!" on CTV/Comedy Network here in Canada for years. It's got to be the exact same.

It was very nice of them to let him have a panic attack in the middle of the song.
🤣🤣🤣
I requested this song at a friend’s wedding before covid-19 and people thought I went mad when I started the Do the Freddie dance 💃 especially when I cackled!
It doesn't get any better than this. My cat liked it too.
The Freddie looks damn exhausting...
I love how you can hear Freddie's microphone starting to feed back as he's doing...well, THAT.
I'm doing The Freddie in front of my boss when I quit my job
You might just get a raise instead as that would be sick
I do the Freddie whenever I have to fire someone.
@@EnjoySackLunch I actually did the Freddy at a birthday party in 1966 for over 2 hrs
@@floatsting20 damn I bet people envied you
@@EnjoySackLunch Just didn't have Freddie's laugh
Well, this looks like an easy enough dance to do, heh heh.
1:06
And I just broke both legs.
Found this group here and became addicted to Freddie and The Dreamers!
Freddy doing that goofy dance and singing about himself on how to do "The Freddy". I about puked when he let out that girly giggle! No, I don't ever want to do the Freddy.
Dave Clark 5 x Jim Carrey = Freddie and the Dreamers
W/ a pint of Daffy Duck
I was in an ICU when I saw this and then I went into a coma.
I survived. Thanks Freddie 😳
Mike squad Unite!
Watching this shit better bump me up to Squire status
yeah boi im bouta turn up
I'm not sure any kid would envy me for doing this dance.
"The Freddie" is what you do on a crowded bus/subway to make room !!!!
The tune wasn't too bad but the dance . . .well . . .uh . . .
I remember "Doing the Freddie" @ prom ! All the girls in their long formals!
Granted this is a kooky zanie song and dance and I remember it well as a kid, but Freddie had one heck of a great voice.
When I bang my shoe
"Ve vill bury you!"
Do the Khrushchev
What a wonderful performance! I think many great bands are overshadowed by The Beatles. This is merely fun though.
Good one. Just watched Troop Beverly Hills and wondered if it had been real.
The only thing that held this band back was the singer being so shy and reserved. I wonder if he ever managed to come out of himself.
Once upon a time some people considered this entertainment... hard to imagine!
This guy was out there when I was a kid just laughed at him till I grew older and realized I could wash & wash and NEVER get rid of the stain in my mind. :(
Must have been DEVO rev.1.

Well, it put a smile on my face - so thanks for posting. Good memories when life was happy and a bit silly!
thumbs up from the former president of the Freddie & the Dreamers in my area.
Happy New Year!
Thank god this song is less than 2 minutes long! It’s not that I don’t like it. It’s that I do the Freddie along with it as a workout.
What fun in the 60's..and I was there but perhaps only about 6 when this was released.
The Bob & Tom show brought me here!
If I won the lottery I would be out on the street doing this dance haha.
i think that's really elvis costello and he modified this song into "girl talk".

Wow...I can’t believe I was around in the 60’s and never heard this song at all...do the freedie? Nothing else to say...😊
I just did the Freddie.
AHHH! lol
Well he was no Elvis was he bless him. He did some nice songs
As a fellow Fred, I can confirm that this is still the dance of our people
Still love this in 2019!!!
It's nice to see them playing live and not lip syncing like the Dave Clark Five did.
Medical experts noted the high incidence of hernia at the time this song was being played by radio stations back in the day
Wow.. dude needs to lay off the sugar...lol...
My brother would sing "Lift your arms up high, all your friends will die....from the B.O.!
Love to exercise to this song
You must get a hell of a workout. Do you see your chiropractor often?
I did the Freddy on my wife last night!! Amazing, she loved it 💘
my family and I have been laughing at this for years now-
Freddie Garrity's horn-rimmed eyeware and curly hair reminded of Buddy Holly (Charles Hardin Holley). Despite the novelty and psychotic laugh, they were underrated as musicians.
They’re actually playing, that’s kinda cool.
Such innocent times!
I just wanted to see Freddie Mercury dancing. Why did i watch this video entirely? 🤷♂️
Best music video OF ALL TIME
I have the feeling that Freddie and the Dreamers knew they were on their way out when they did this performance. Very lackluster. But for us little kids the dance had a big plus: we could all “do the Freddie.” So we did.

Naw. You shouldn't have been shot. You were a 12 year old having fun.

We are doing this dance at my school play
I think I'm sick.
This is one of those songs that would be better if the Ramones had done a cover.

What the hell is this?....Something very crazy.....straitjacket needed!
The Freddie is how you tell people to social distance.
I'm doing this 1:06 in front of my boss after I tell him I quit
I was today years old when I found out "Do the Freddy" was a cover and not written for the Freddy Kreuger novelty album.

Yup, same here. Still going. Lol
It brought me here as well. I was actually a newborn when TROOP BEVERLY HILLS came out
