The Bayfield looks very comfortable with lots a storage...good job to both of you in doing the tour. Nice to see all four of you out for a social evening together.
It is definitely a comfortable boat with lots of room and storage! Really glad you enjoyed the tour and as much as I enjoy sailing and living aboard, I also enjoyed the great friends I have made in the sailing/liveaboard community!
The Gozzards built a great blue water cruising boat in the Bayfields. Cole made a wonderful choice. The styling with the bowsprit and wood gives it a great distinctive look as well.
Thank you so much! I am really glad that you enjoyed the tour and that the passion for sailing and living aboard came through in the video. :) Fair winds in 2017 to you!
I enjoyed the tour..... it's 1:39 am Christmas day.... just got home from work 2 hrs ago and finished helping the wife with putting out the toys.... watching the tour was a nice wind down after work. Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings !!
Nice video. It's quite enjoyable to see what other folks are doing in the sailing world. Looks like Cole has got himself a nice boat there! Also, that was a nice book he was showing. Take care, Craig from South Carolina
Thanks Craig! Really glad you enjoyed the video and it was great that Cole wanted to show everyone his home. :) I hope the book will be a great way to show his friends and family the great adventure we had.
Came to like Cole a lot, watching the Canada westcoast 2016 series, a cool and down to earth (or sea) kind of guy, so it was awesome to actually see his own boat😊all the best for him and his future sailing. Good video as always👍
Yes for sure Cole is a great guy and I was very lucky to have him help with bringing the boat to Prince Rupert! He also has a very nice liveaboard boat. :) Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the tour guys, what a treat to sit down with my wife and look at the boat we were dreaming about many years ago before she came up for sale. We went from the bayfield 25 up to the bayfield 40 which has both the berths at the cabin entrance and the galley forward. Great video. thanks Alfy Cole you could think of putting partitions in your fridge to keep one section colder yet leave the bottom open to share the cold air. Think Zones. Dave and Karen
Really glad you enjoyed the tour especially because it was a boat you had considered getting. Sounds like you found a good one though! I will pass that idea about the fridge onto Cole! Alfy
I ran into your friend Cole and his boat (literally) in Nanaimo in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't until a week later that I had one of those ah-ha moments and I finally figured out why he seemed so familiar. It made for an interesting story...
well you two. miscalculation of tides can be a great learning curve. 40+ yrs sailing and I've fallen foul of that. admittedly I was a lunar eclipse and the electronics was on the wrong time zone....... but that's no excuse! Great you guys got to connect...... Merry Xmas and all that stuff 🍻⛵
I always have said that there are sailors who admit they have gone aground....and the rest are liars. haha During my time at Shelter Island marina I saw a number of boats get stuck on that bar so Cole wasn't the first and he won't be the last. At least they have all been uneventful groundings with the silt and mud bottom. Merry Christmas and Fair Winds in 2017!
Nice boat! I've been enjoying watching your vids, thx, and this one got my attention because I purchased a Bayfield 36 Dec 3, 16. I will be looking forward to the cruising video on Cole's boat in 2017.
Tell Cole, he "ABSOLUTELY" made a VERY SMART PURCHASE with his 1987 Bayfield 36!!! After watching more videos during the past year, it is my #1 choice, now...These are typically a little less expensive compared to the Allied Seawind boats but both are fantastic 'full-keeled' cruisers --- the Allied 30 being the first boat to circumnavigate...In the future, all Cole will need is a) Dickinson heater, b) watermaker, c) Monitor windvane, d) pair of wind turbines, e) AIS, f) life raft g) dinghy+outboard and he'll be ready to take the girlfriend, anywhere...When will he have a YT channel???
Yes he has a great boat for sure! :) I'm sure most of those items, if not all are on his list. haha Not sure if Cole will start a YT channel, but you may see him again on this one! :)
Lake Ontario sailor, so lots of Bayfields here. They are beautiful and well built boats. My boat is a C&C 33 MKII however if I am out in 25+ blow, I want to be on a Bayfield. I can't believe any Bayfeild was ever launched with the doors needing planing so something is going on that should be looked into. I am not a great fan of TVs on a boat however, check the specs on the brick on the power cord. It's not uncommon here to cut brick off and tie it into the 12v system.
Cole sure does have a nice boat and I hope to get out on it in some high winds one day to see how it handles. :) Sounds like you have a nice boat also. I was wondering about the door as well, maybe the wood swelled just enough that they couldn't quite fit if the fit was already tight? That is a good idea about the tv, I may look into that for the tv on my boat also....then again, when I am away from the dock I rarely have time for those types of things. ha
Bayfields have a great reputation as well built, quality boats and yours is a beauty Cole. P.S. There is a great FB page called Bayfield Owners' Group that is very helpful and a great resource for Bayfield owners.
as far as i know the bayfield designs were, after the bayfield boatyard closed, taken over by gozzard and they continued producing them almost unchanged (fortunately)
Nice visit and tour guys. You got a great boat there Cole. My doors get sticky every season but instead of using my planer I pull out the dehumidifier and just like magic after a day or two they open and close smooth as silk. I guess it's not that well known of a fact that moisture causes wood to swell. :) Anyway just my two cents on the topic. What's Cole's boat's name so I can keep a eye out for him this spring. Cheers, Bill
Alfy - I was shocked to come back after a couple days off and found I'm behind on your videos. A couple comments: Cole has a very nice (first) boat. He is lucky. He might want to consider checking the tension on his rig. It may be out of tune which caused him to have to plane all his doors. Also, those "handrails" on his table have a name - as you may have already told him. Also, I'm sorry for earlier calling him Kyle. In all those videos on your trip, I thought Kyle was his name. I was wondering what those boards are he has stored in the Dakine bags in his quarter berth. Snow boards, wake boards, kite boards? Hope you had a Merry Christmas and were able to spend lots of time with your kids. Ron
I have been on a few older boats that the doors seem to not shut quite right and need a slight trim...that could be the issue. No prob about his name, sometimes it is hard to hear on the video. I think the boards in the bags are long boards. Merry Christmas and Fair Winds in 2017!
Yes, he has a good boat there. :) I wished I could have gotten outside footage, but it was super dark when I arrived and I couldn't get back another time before leaving Vancouver. :/ Next time!
Bayfield's are nice boat's! it must be like mine backing up is imposable. I didn't see any heater, or does it have a espar? I was just down at saltspring to bad there's not a site where people say where there going and can meet up with others.
Yes it sure is a nice boat! I think most full keel boat have a harder time backing up for sure! He has an spar heating system on board and the boat was very warm inside. :) Ya, a site would be great for meeting up with other cruisers!
Hello What is its sailing performance like? Pointing ability and reverse motoring ease? I am actually looking at a Bayfield 36 and wonder how it sails, Ty
I am in the process of buying a bayfield 36 right now and have a question for you or your friend. What do you think about the fact that the stbd lazarette is open to the engine room and could fill up the inside of the boat in the event of being knocked down? I have been looking on line but now one has mentioned anything about this.To me it would seem that a bulkhead is required at a min.
bayfield 36 a very well built boat during the 80s recession they had problemms and mr gozzard started gozzard boats the same diferent interior ,i like them better but resale is high to afford for me.
The Bayfield looks very comfortable with lots a storage...good job to both of you in doing the tour. Nice to see all four of you out for a social evening together.

Good to see Cole back. That looks like a lovely comfortable boat for long distance cruising.
Yes, he sure has a comfy boat for living aboard!
This is a fantastic layout. And only 36 feet. Awesome.
It was nice to see Cole's boat; it's very nice and kept neat. He's a very nice person, respectful and good manners. Great vid!
Glad you enjoyed the video! He has a great boat for sure!
The Gozzards built a great blue water cruising boat in the Bayfields. Cole made a wonderful choice. The styling with the bowsprit and wood gives it a great distinctive look as well.
Cole sure did make a good choice and I was glad to hear he was going to keep it rather than switch to more of a racer/cruiser boat. :)
Beautiful boat!!!
But the best thing is the passion both of you have about sailing and living aboard.
Go on living your dreams!
Thank you so much! I am really glad that you enjoyed the tour and that the passion for sailing and living aboard came through in the video. :)
Fair winds in 2017 to you!

I love Bayfields. The 29 has such a unique layout.
Nice boat for sure. :)
that's a beautiful boat. I like Bayfield. I've usually seen pictures of the 25 and 27, so this was a nice treat.
good luck staying warm.
Cole sure does have a nice boat and I had never been on the 36 until he moved to the marina. Definitely a nice liveaboard boat!
Great to see Cole's boat. He looks really excited to take her on his own adventures now. --Jim
He has a nice boat and it will be nice to see him getting out more!
Real nice canadian built boat. Thank you for the tour
Cole sure does have a nice boat and I am really glad you enjoyed the tour!

Nicely appointed boat. Very cozy.
A really good liveaboard boat I think! :)

mele kalikimaka and a makahiki hou. Beautiful boat Cole has, anything that has Gozzard involved is of quality.
Merry Christmas to you! Cole sure does have a nice boat and the quality down below was noticeable. :)
Nice ship. Glad to come abroad.
Really glad you enjoyed the tour!!
Nice yacht Cole!
It sure was!
she's a nice ship .........enjoy some sailing......
Very spacious and well laid out 36 i must say.
It sure seems to be a great liveaboard vessel!
I've got a Bayfield 32C on the portside and a 32 on the other. The 32C blew out her head sail returning from Powell River last week.
Lake Ontario sailor, so lots of Bayfields here. They are beautiful and well built boats. My boat is a C&C 33 MKII however if I am out in 25+ blow, I want to be on a Bayfield. Beautiful S/V

It sure looked and felt like a quality build! I will definitely pass that info onto Cole if he doesn't read it himself in the comments. :)
as far as i know the bayfield designs were, after the bayfield boatyard closed, taken over by gozzard and they continued producing them almost unchanged (fortunately)
great boat
It sure is! :)
Nice boat

Yes that darn wood can swell in these parts of the world! ha Glad you enjoyed the tour! The boat name is Vortice. :)
Pretty compact for 36'. Thanks.

nice boat.
Tell Cole from us that we thought he had a great boat, a little jealous, but in a good way. Would have also loved to have seen the topside too.
Yes, he has a good boat there. :) I wished I could have gotten outside footage, but it was super dark when I arrived and I couldn't get back another time before leaving Vancouver. :/ Next time!
Would you share the size of the TV and details about how it was mounted? Thanks, lovely boat!

@00:30 ... is that a Luhrs on the left? The blue/white color scheme and tilted windows look similar to my 1973 Luhrs Super360.
Cole saw his "girl friend", but did she see him? 😄 JK, good video
lol glad you enjoyed the tour! :)
Alfie, what year is Cole's boat? Great video!
1987
What Ray Mtl said. :)
Thanks Ray Mtl! Merry Christmas Alfie!
enjoyed
Nice Boat Cole, take u anywhere
Yes, I think he has a great boat!
bayfield 36 a very well built boat during the 80s recession they had problemms and mr gozzard started gozzard boats the same diferent interior ,i like them better but resale is high to afford for me.
is it offshore boat world cruiser ?
Lets Look Gain :)
He's like a nice bam margera.
Aarrrr urrrrr and yeahhhh yarrrrr uummmmmm ddddaaaa aaarrrrr hmmmm nnnnaaaaa
Nice boat indeed. It's a shame that the headroom in these boat-lengths is marginal even for normal people (let alone me at 6'10").
:)
