Pattaya is a resort located on the Eastern Seaboard of a 'massive Industrial Estate' here in Thailand. You need to get away from these types of tourist traps to see real Thailand and REAL THAI people! Don't base your impressions on anything like what you see and find in Pattaya!
i like Pattaya, pretty real to me. "no money, no honey." sounds familiar, world over. we can bang on about all the other shit, but thats what its get down to.
For years, I had a 29 inch waist, now it's 40 inches. I worked hard, got lots of exercise and training, and I never had much 'dosh'. Now I'm financially comfortable... and a bit fat. I've never visited Thailand, but your videos are a nice 'travelogue'.
A key to happiness is being able to be on your own without feeling like you have to interact with others. Being able to ignore the phone. Being able to entertain yourself, not feeling guilty about saying no to others, not feeling like you owe an explanation to anyone. Also, accept and manage boredom. It doesn't always have to be that you are occupied with something. Just accept the fact that boredom exists, just like depression exists. Those that accept this as a natural part of life are a step ahead of the game, and will find much less stress and disappointment in their lives.
More likely i have to agree with you. General people are shit to try to take anvantige in eatch other with more. The less shit you know the more happy you are. Of course you should have some money in a case of emergency.
Hi Trev, you are so right about boredom. I moved out here to be with my wife in Nakhon Sawan 8 month's ago. We have to look after her mum so very restricted to where we can go and for how long. I go out for a walk and exercise in the mornings, as I'm the only farang in this part of town it gets hard and we all know learning the language is not easy but I'm trying.
You are so right Trev, holidays are fine for the full on partying but when living there you have to ease off, I usually set myself up with a routine where I make sure I get up by 7 every morning (this includes when I have been out on the town), walks, cycling and beach are what I do to keep occupied.
Great topic Trev!! On previous trips to Pattaya, if I was only there for 2 weeks, I used to feel pressure to go out every night and 'make it worth it'. On my last trip, I stayed for a month and found that I enjoyed things much more because I didn't feel like I had to stay out til 3am and some nights just enjoyed a sunset and a nice meal and went to bed. On the 2 week trips, I was almost glad to get on the plane and get home to get some rest. This last time, I was seriously depressed because I didn't want to go back. Next trip, I'm staying 6 weeks to see if I can really enjoy the daily life in Jomtien/Pattaya.
6 weeks is hard going buddy , I have just come back , I spent a week in Bangkok, the to pattaya for 2 weeks , then to khon kean for 8 nights then back to pattaya , I spent a fortune buddy , just be aware thailand ain’t cheap any more.
@@michaelshirley4874 Thanks for the feedback Michael. I've done Bangkok enough to realize that it's more expensive. Don't need to spend any more time there. Do you think Pattaya is the cheapest to stay?
Gym, Thai study, sauna, swimming, travelling... never a lull in my day. Also don't drink, terrible for health and longevity. Happy, healthy, positive life here in Pattaya.
What you say about keeping active in Pattaya, is a very very important thing to consider whilst retiring in Pattaya. I have a nice condo at Cosy beach with amazing views and good breeze.. Very relaxing.. I'm very fortunate that I'm not addicted to booze, I stick to 5 nights per month. I like swimming at Dongtan beach. Like watching utube or reading books. I used to walk a lot for exercise. Know quite a few ladies for casual friendships. I have very ample funds, so have no restrictions.. After 7 years here, I never get bored.
You’ve hit it spot on with the question of how to fight boredom and resist the nightly bar temptation. I had watched a video of yours before I arrived broaching the subject and I tried to listen as much as I could lol. Found myself down on Bangla quite frequently however. I would read some days to combat it or try and keep busy having my girl drive me around to different beaches and such which helped. Cause when I would sit in the house most of the day I would want to go to Bangla. About a month straight of my 8 I spent. I look to do a better job with it this time around in March. We’ll see how it goes.
brilliant video Trev... and very very true... retirement is lovely, I retired at 40, but got more physically unfit/unhealthy (and covid didnt help at all) than any other time in my life... to an almost dangerous heart attack/stroke level... retirement is the fast track to the grave..especially if drinking every day!! gotta keep busy and active and moderate the alcohol!! Boredom can literally be a killer!!!
I stayed for a month during August & September 2022, and for someone who generally doesn't drink at all here in the UK, I found crawling the bars every night (..and drinking) took its toll on me. In the thirty days I was in Pattaya I missed only two days pub-crawling (..having caught a bug of some sort), and I never returned to my apartment before 1.30am in the morning. The black circles I developed beneath my eyes whilst I was there attested to my new 'burning-the-candle-at-both-ends' lifestyle. However, I'll be back there for two months in March/April 2023, and I'll probably do the same despite vowing to take it easier. It's the FOMO effect (..fear of missing out) that drags you out night after night. Sitting on your balcony overlooking LK Metro and watching as it comes to life each evening makes it hard to stay in your apartment, especially if you've lived for years in relative seclusion. As they say: You only live once, and you'd do better to burn out than to fade away.
Fomo, that’s all very true Stevie, it sounds like you’ve had a great time, and fair play to you buddy, why not. Like it or not Pattaya is like Disneyland for men 😂😂. I don’t know about you but I can’t drink like I could when I was first coming to Pattaya in the 1990s , so I tend to start off on the soft drinks, then have a few beers towards the end of the night. I shall be there myself for a month April into May but I’m only gonna be in Pattaya for about a week to 10 days as I’m going to hire a car and get out and see the country.
@@marcusmooney2539 Hi Marcus. That was my first time in Thailand and I was there on my own, so it was good to be welcomed the way I was - and I quite enjoyed being plagued by texts on an evening by girls I'd met asking me to call again at their bar (..although I'm not naive to their crafty ways). As to starting each night on soft drinks..? Hmm. No! The reverse was the case really. I had bottles of spirit atop the refrigerator in my apartment, and always took a wee dram (..or two) in order to be 'in the mood to dance' before even setting foot on the Soi outside. As I said earlier - this took its toll & left me feeling a tad burnt-out by the time I boarded the plane to come home. I've recovered now though, so I'm well up for round two in March. Let the battle commence!
@@stealthystevie fair play to you brother. Have a great time, I know you will. Me and my pal will be there from the 13 th April just in time for songkran
Yeah, it's all about mindset and what you want out of life. I bought a place here and like the idea of having Sin City on my doorstep. However, I don't indulge in that lifestyle on a regular basis as ultimately, it will destroy you physically and mentally. Pattaya has amazing restaurants, great gyms, clean beaches and beautiful women outside of the bar scene. Fast internet everywhere, great shopping, massage places ect. No need to drink and party to have a good time. I live a healthy lifestyle and fitter than I have ever been since moving here
isnt there the Pattaya sports club, many events. there is a library, get a daily massage, golf once or twice weekly, enjoy meals, drink moderately, rent company occasionally, do your visa stuff, your medical stuff, do some internet… and the days shud go by without boredom
During my many trips to Pattaya, I played golf most days. Between the round of golf and lunch, ect, it’s easy to kill 5 or 6 hours. This last trip, I was not able to play due to back surgery. Your topic of becoming bored, hit home. As I’m not a big drinker, and don’t chase every women I find attractive “anymore”, it really became evident that I was getting bored. Hopefully I will be able to play golf by my next visit, but if not, I’ll take your advice and find something else to fill my day. Thanks as always
They say that every man needs 3 hobbies. A physical one (lifting, martial arts, team sports...) A cerebral one (reading, chess, mathematics...) And a creative one (music, writing, painting...) Commit to one of each and you will never feel lost or bored.
Yes, I know the videos you’re talking about. I watch them all the time and it is great to see the reaction also yes I’m retired and there’s quite a few days when I wake up and I don’t have anything planned and I get bored very very fast I find things to fill my day, but some days it’s tough. So you let the day unfold n see what it brings you!! Great laid back video. Very enjoyable I like the unscripted versions.
One of the best pieces of advice I received from a longtime expat when I first moved over here was when he said to me " Your an expat now. You're not a tourist anymore. So stop acting like it". He was actually speaking in regards to tipping too much but the lesson applies to lifestyle for me. Learn Thai, don't spend your time all on bar stools, join a gym and go where locals and old school expats go where possible. It's been amazing.
Day mate That's just how I'm feeling This past week, Great to hear you share precisely the same thought on the subject, I have been trying not to drink as an EXCAPE from boredom, My Thai wife Works part-time, but she makes sure that I have nothing to do, Because she looks after me so well, I have been doing the UA-cam thing, But when I see a bloke Making a video on how to make scrambled eggs In 3 months he gets 65K views, I lose heart, and yes I am getting so lazy, Slipping into the Facebook and UA-cam watching Zombie, which I hate so much, PS I'm in Rural Thailand, Cheers Great to hear you share precisely the same thought on the subject,
hi you are so right i lived in chaing mai for 18 months the way i found not to get bored was to buy a little dog it did the trick ,well done on brilliant content ,the good old days are done and dusted ,
I live in thailand for 32 years never been bored...i have many thai friends and i can speak the language...too many sad lonely old men in pattaya getting fatter..lol
If you live there its essential to build some kind of daily plan to have a life away from the bars. Nobody can do as they did while on holiday there. Easy said, I know, but when I spent longer times time there I made sure I did things, hobbies, go to the gym, anything really....same as you would back in the West etc. Its harder there in Pattaya of course, temptation is in your face. There's not right a wrong way as such, we're all different, but it does need planning if you intent to stay longer term. Great vlog mate, hope all is good with you 👍
Hey Trev., good video. Here's my story. I had a pretty good job in Texas and a beautiful home. I became bored at work in June 2022 so I decided to sell the house and quit my job. I landed in Phuket in August. Started renting by the month then decided to buy a condo, it gave me something to do. So, here we are in February. Now I'm bored. I've never had any hobbies, I was always working too hard. My monthly budget is around 65,000 baht per month so I'm OK there. My condo is at the top of a very steep hill so it does take a fair amount of effort to go out and drink.
Thank the lord I didn't buy a condo in Pattaya. I nearly did. I was with a Russian girl for a few months but she tried to blackmail me to buy her expensive stuff. After 6 months I was utterly bored to death and GTFO Thailand.
Hi Trev, I’m still working, single 10 yrs now, keep fit by excerise ,ride my motorbike, just a social drinker, however still get bored , to relieve this boredom I go Pattaya for a holiday, return home revitalised..😊…enjoy life only here for shortime 😊 cheers, moreover, been to yr bar several times to say hello, missed you each time, met Ian nice guy…take care
5 days maximum I can last in Pattaya before getting bored and somewhat depressed. Staying in a giant brothel soon loses its appeal for me and I move on. No idea how you manage to live there. It would send me crazy!
If you decide Pattaya is for you, then you know what your future will be. Trev and all The other vloggers make it very clear what day to day and night life is in PAT TAY YAH. Only u can make that decision and live by it. Good luck whatever ur decide..:: 👍💪🙏
Routines are very important and will keep you from getting bored. Your routines should always change to keep up the interest. Health and fitness routines are the best and will keep you healthy in body and mind. I also love to golf, so hopefully that isn't too expensive there.
Allow $100 Aussie per day that’ll cover you for golf maybe a bit more but not much and there’s plenty of bars to play out of links bar is good and also Travelers rest down in soi lengkee
I've been in Thailand 26 years and to survive you need a routine. Not like the army but you need to balance your life in order to sustain a healthy lifestyle. I go to gym Monday Tue Thursday Friday. Wednesday is always an activity day to a location outside Bangkok. Saturday is the day we relax and have a drink and a bbq dinner. Sunday we only have one meal and that's a good lunch . But it's also the day we get a massage and walk to a new place and discover a great food experience. Like I said we are all different but getting on the Piss 7 days a week will lead to a lost lifestyle and severe mental health problems.
I came to Thailand to work, ended up marrying, lost my job when Covid came and been retired since. Not one day of boredom yet. An occasional weekend in Pattaya helps.
I don’t drink in my home country and only drink a few in Thailand - I’m heading to Thailand today and appreciate the reminder to have self control -books help me with up country life but Pattaya and cash keep my boredom away - massages etc I recommend Bayview as a treat - Your videos are entertaining
People get bored no matter where they live, I'd rather have moments of bordem in Asia then at home. Good topic, just try and enjoy every day without the obvious vices (alcohol drugs) retirement is a lifestyle that you have to adjust too.
Longer stay say 3 months then as others a routine of going to the gym, walks to all different soi's, photography, motorcycle riding, visit different towns exploring it and going to a coffee shop to watch some YT vids to pass the time. Trev has it right you need a hobby or things to whittle away the time.
Drinking is what you do in Patts but when I lived there for 5 years I found that I had spells of going heavy on it but if you manage to find a good girl and (it can be done) then you can just cruise along nicely as you would anywhere.
Nice one Trevor. No doubt when out on your pushbike, camera mounts will be your hand ! I totaly agree with your comments about boredom, resulting in going on the piss. I would be in the same boat, that is why I chose not to retire there. I holiday twice a year, and try to behave myself. Getting easier now, old age is catching me up ! Keep up the good work.
Great topic that most don’t realize. It may be heaven on earth but the down time will get to you and everything gets old doing it everyday for too long. Great idea to cover this. !
You're righ6. Just like back in our home countries when we retire. Must have routine with many healthy physical and mental activities to sustain you such as gym or cardio outside and perhaps take a Thai Class to keep the mind sharp.
I'm thinking of retiring to pattaya. And boredom is a massive fear of mine. I get bored in uk , and possibly it will be the same out there. Been so cold in uk this winter. Time I finish thinking about it. Itll be to late . 🤣 cheers Trev
Great video as always my friend, I have not made it there as of yet, but soon I hope to. Freezing my arsh here in New York, watching you sweating encourages me to no end to get there and enjoy the weather. Boredom, more than likely I would volunteer at the orphanage or animal shelter, Peace
Hello Trev. Been here in pattaya many years i know many people said enough is enough i am moving out of here within a year they all come back saying they missed the place. Its a funny old game.
Living in Southeast Asia for most of the past decade I've found Pattaya to be one of the easiest places to live long term. As you mentioned, temptations abound at every turn. But the level of convenience also comes with the possibility of boredom when what was exotic and is now commonplace.
Fulfillment is a side effect not usually achieved directly. Alcohol is a depressant. Best to keep both these truths up front with any foreign travel. Good point Trevor on physical activity. I would add seek out a meditation class or group (pretty easy anywhere in Thailand ; Tai Chi another good option). Also engage your interests outside the bar companion arena: sports, chess, reading, whatever -- work at finding connections in Pattaya for your non-erotic proclivities. I'm not certain but maybe there are opportunities for volunteer service (nature preserves, tutoring etc) in the area; worth the research as this is usually always uplifting. Ideally one would do some intensive net research on these things before arrival in Pattaya (or anywhere in Thailand). And remember that discontent, such as boredom, is always internal, not external. For what its worth -- others may think differently.
Very good advice Trev me and my mates non stop on it every night pre covid soi7/ Soi 8 and go back to soi new plaza my g/f working in that restaurant then we go back to surin now nice and peaceful village life
Love your honesty. It’s true. You can get bored. Will get bored. Not every day is going to be thrilling. This happened to me in Manila. While I lived there. I would just go for a walk. Maybe grab one beer. Just one during the day. Put a limit on it. Just one beer. It’s important to go outside though. Yes, lots of temptations in Southeast Asia. Women and alcohol. Easy to get. You said it though, find something to keep your mind going too. Even for a few hours each day. Have to. Or you go crazy. I think people with kids will be always busy. Just the way it is. No place is perfect. None.
Trevor, Set yourself a decent routine, I walk Jomtien and Dongtan beaches twice a day 5am and 5pm, a full english twice a week at Nicky's in soi bukow (99b) a couple of specials at cheap charlies using reward card (99b) in the week otherwise its all thai food. A couple of massages per week, a swim either in the pool or sea every day. Just a few drinks per day, I have netflix and you tube for entertainment. A woman once a week or more depending on your tastes. If it's too hot wander around the shopping malls Terminal 21, central festival etc for an hour or two, visit the markets. Regards Barry
Think Pratamnak looks like a nice area to live, best of both worlds. How people get bored is strange, theres a million things you could do doing/learning to past the day. Keep active drink less is good advice Trev. All the best man.
Interesting video Trev , personally I like to take a walk on the beach from dusit hotel to walking street to pass the time in the day or go and watch a movie in the afternoon , thanks as always
I'd do that too.. everytime I've been to Pattaya I never get a chance to go on a walkabout, just a chilled walk even down the beach . Get so wrapped up with everything else you forget ... Next time I will make time
It’s a good topic Trev. When I go to Pattaya I don’t drink during the day. I get out of bed, go eat, go walk around the shopping centres, go for a short time down Soi 6, eat again and back to the hotel for a swim. About 6pm I’ll head out for dinner then hit the bars. I’ll also hit the gym once a week. Plenty to do in Pattaya, but you have to be motivated and disciplined to keep the weight off.
Great topic as my Thai wife ponder the chance of retiring in Thailand, definitely not central Pattaya. My question to you is what about your significant other? I get getting tired of the bars etc but don't you both have things your do together. Does she work so she's busy and you've got free time?
Very good topic. When I'm over normally for a month or at least 3 weeks. A couple times a year. I end up drinking most of the time. And it leaves your body and worse your mind all messed up. I love thailand .. but as a person I love routine and need it to be productive. Good topic Trevor
Easiest thing to do is sit in the bars all day. Also that’s the unhealthiest too. I was there for a month in September. I hired a pushbike, went to the gym, long walks etc. You have to have a structure and purpose in life.
Brilliant Trev!!!! Boredom can be much worse in the provinces though and I will share a few stories with you abou both the provinces and the cities soon. Oh about Yaya, got a story there also 🙂
Another excellent video! I do agree that you can get bored no matter where you live. I exercise 6 days a week at the gym. 3 days of cardio and 3 days of weight lifting. I don’t drink too often but I enjoy a good cigar on occasion. I’m in my 50’s now and have a great job and salary. And have a great deal of traveling around the world. I’m not married or in a relationship but I do find myself to be bored more so than when I was younger. Recently I’ve come to the conclusion that a man needs more to care about than his work and mental and physical health. Otherwise at least for me you find yourself asking what am I living for.
I see why you started your video at Sun Fitness. It's a good hint! When I was there, that was a good bulk of my morning time activities. Yes, I am tempted to retire, but at this time, I still cannot honestly answer what will I pursue after I retire. I have less than 10 years to pull that ripcord but it is one hell of a question to answer... And yes, I did feel a bit of boredom in Pattaya in the mornings, that's why I went to the gym.
I would love to live in Pattaya. The weather is always warm. You can go for a walk at any time of the day or night. The people are friendly and you dont have to worry about getting robbed or worse. The beach is always open. You have great healthcare that's affordable. I'm not a big drinker but you can always find a place to go. Same with females. If you want some company, it's always available. I am a morning person so I would like to find a place to workout or play some racquet sports. Great golf courses are available. Rainy season may be the only downside.
@@Buzzinpattaya understand what your saying , one sees the same blokes sitting in the same spot in the same bar day in day out , and their Expats that live there permanently !! and most have no savings only the pension to survive on ( AU $400 week ) , then they start the scams !! to survive , seen too many
Great subject pal, and bang on the money. If you fall into the daily drinking routine when you move here it is only gonna end up with you in an early grave. I’d advise anyone who moves to to buy/rent a house with a garden out of town, over on the dark side for instance, I personally could not live in a condo I would go stir crazy in one of those things. If you’re out of town you can avoid the madness. Cook at home instead of eating out all the time. If you want a partner to live with try and meet a girl who is already working and earns a wage, shop assistant, bank clerk, nurse, etc, that way you are not constantly in each others space 24/7. Join a gym and get your arse there for an hr a day, it ain’t fucking hard, even if you just walk 4km a day on the treadmill it will keep you fit. Get a dog and take it for a long walk every day, plenty of beaches and places to go with them. If you can get a part time job somewhere go for it, I know that is easier said than done but they are out there. If you have a particular skill/trade keep your hand in, there are plenty of rich expats here who would be willing to pay for a british Plumber, Tiler, decorator etc, you can dictate what hours you do and bank a few quid as well. Help out at a charity a few days a month. First time I’ve seen a blog covering this subject, kudos to you Trevor for bringing it up 👍👍
hi, I completely agree with your conclusions and warning.. its a fascinating subject, because there is no answer which is right for everyone..except maybe "variety is the spice of life".. cheers 🍻
May I ask Trev - when did you stop training, and more importantly...why? Wouldn't you want to get back into it, even just a bit? Just wondering mate... 👍🙂❤️
While I was there for 3 months I just walked around a lot to stay in shape. Started in Pattaya then to Chang mai and ended in Bangkok. Got a great tattoo on the cheap. Lessons I learned from visiting is, do not start your vacation by going on a bar crawl. After the bar crawl i got Covid. That lasted 3 weeks. So if you have plans to scuba or snorkeling. Get those things done first. Then go after the lady. Oh I walked like 4.5 miles a day
Going to the gym or walking should be something that is done every day. It is healthy and will give you something to do. Then eat healthy foods once or twice a day.
I am coming to bkk early March hopefully long term. While my gf is working I am sure shall explore things and have me time to adjust to being there long term .. will take up Thai lessons, walk , & travel, I rarely drink ., we shall see I guess a routine and being mentally active will help
it's an excellent topic to have discussed...boredom does set in for me and i'm usually there a little over 2 weeks and sometimes i do have to take a day or two off just to regroup...either little or no alcohol and just walk around no matter the time...sometimes i'll just sit by the pool and just enjoy the day...the city sells easily 1 million bottles of beer on any given day is my guess...and i'm planning on staying in somerset soon, definitely glad you got an outside shot of it
Yes Trevor it's the drink that nails us down, I used to drink a lot, but 80 years now have to count maybe two bottles a day , is ok, but must exercise every day, can make it , if careful,
I gained 2.5 kg after staying two weeks in Pattaya. The irony is I don’t even like beer. Just because when I get into a bar, I needed to order something, and a Tiger will be an easy choice, and I would sip while talking to a girl. I never actually finished a beer, and even this put 2.5 kg on me. The number of bars I walked in every day 😂
I stayed in Pattaya two weeks, absolutely loved it. Booked my next trip first thing I got back Australia, however, as much as I love party, I won’t live in a pub. I am planning to visit Pattaya two three times a year for the next ten years, but when I retire then, I will definitely choose a city like Bangkok to stay, not Pattaya.
Good observations Buzzy! Of most importance is exercise…to keep from being bored get on the Jomtien bus and go to swampy to avail of the other countries that are close by and a pittance airfare. Variety is the spice of life❤
i was sat in the treetown food court with two ladies about a month back when one of the really nasty centipedes ran under our table, it was about 12" long and i know how bad the bite can be from one of these, i shouted to the girls to lift their feet in the air and when it emerged i stamped on it......little sod just ignored me and carried on running, the Thais started hitting it with broom handles and it must have taken about ten hits before it stopped moving, one of the guys flipped it over to show me the huge fangs which were about an inch long!!
What about just riding your bike around the country? Go fishing, sit on the beach? Maybe a boat to cruise around? Look for antique shops? Go see the south and see the ruby mines?
Hi Trev thanks for this video it’s really put a lot of things into perspective I’ve just done my second trip to Pattaya And even in just two weeks there was a sense of boredom like you said you do need to occupy yourself in the daytime otherwise you’ll just be in danger of drinking yourself to death just wanna say your buzzing bar was fantastic as well great bar girls and met some great expats had a great time there 👍🇹🇭
It's easy for the sparkle here to disappear and quicker than you realise. Defo need a focus away from the bars. Glad you had a good time in Buzzin mate thank you
How many guys are actually consciously aware of their own values? Like, do you value wealth? Status? Adventure? Fun? Security? Vitality? If you've got infinite time, and have the means to do what you want (within reason), then it's time to sit down and nut out what you value, and in what order, and start filling your days with activities and experiences that maximise those values. Isn't that what lifestyle by design is all about? Just my two cents 😅🤙🏽P.S Just my observation, but I feel like once most guys get to a certain age, they lose the ability to allow themselves to be a beginner/bad at something. This creates a problem, because learning anything requires you to be bad at the start until you get over the learning curve. Getting over this problem unlocks the rest of the world to you
No rain? There was a thunderstorm with heavy rain in Soi Buakhau yesterday around 4 o'clock. I know that because I am in Pattaya and I watched the rain on my balcony.
Fighting boredom and remaining active is the challenge for all of us in retirement. Bad diet and alcohol is a quick path to the grave and we all know it. Each one of us has to fight the fight alone. That beer is cold and the pizza is delicious, but you know what it will do. You know you should say no. But the fun and the girls are at the bar. Maybe they ought to open a gym with "Gym Girls". You could work out, get a massage and a happy ending all in one spot. Then stop at the market and buy something healthy for dinner. After dinner sit on your balcony and smoke a doobie. As far as you getting fat. It's the carbohydrates mate. So much rice. It turns into pure sugar after you eat it. I suggest a simple diet of a piece of meat and a green vegetable and learn to cook.
1000% Correct it’s the carbs ! Bread , rice , pasta , processed foods ! Keep it simple Eggs , Meat. , chicken , Fish , Greens and Some low sugar Yogurt. I’m 64 never been healthier
A good daily walk or a good swim, will stop boredom, and will refresh and recharge a tired body, make it become a good habit, and you will feel much more positive with life, in Thailand. 😉🙏🙏
Hi trev. Good subject, I’m here 7-8 months a year.. leaving Denmark 🇩🇰 during cold Vinther season.. but I listen to you say you went from 32” to a size barrel of beer😉 I walk every morning in the Buddha/ temple hill in prhatumnak so if you wanna meet an join please feel free to write me, I could also tell you a lot of fine stuff about Pattaya back in the late 80’ start 90’ I was here cause my dad lived here 😁 Enjoy your day champ and feel free to buzz me if you wanna meet for morning walk or just a beer and a chat 👌🏻 Br claus
Nice clip of Pattaya wich you could improve, with the free Route-Generator, so the viewer of you video can follow your way and will know, where there are the delicous tacos and so on. I go here in Switzerland, everyday for a walk in the forest and have after one, or some more hour, about 10'000 steps. So I stay fit and can eat, what I want.
Thanks for another interesting topic and route. Good shout for the restaurant at the bottom of New Plaza, ate there on my last trip and enjoyed a few visits to Mr Bean bar along that side.
Unfortunately I've seen at first hand, expats with no interests or hobbies turning into alcoholics. It's vital you have things to do during the day to pass the time.
I certainly got a bit lost like that for a while, not in Thailand, in Egypt .I'd lived and worked there for a few years and the work dried up, plus i had a bad split with my girlfriend. So I did the saddo thing and with time and money available i just kept going to the bars, daily. Luckily I just don't have that ' alcoholic ' gene,so after about 6 months or so of living in a drunken blur, I just pulled myself together and sorted myself out. Not pleasant, and easy trap to fall into and sadly some don't get out of it. In the right enviroment i can still certainly enjoy a drink, but on a day to day basis i just cant be arsed to be honest, there's plenty more to do

Sooi New Plaza is good place to have a game of pool and a beer . I’ve been in Thailand 8 months and yes it can be boring without close friends and family but I’d say not as boring as England, and yes you got to get out of Pattaya every five or six weeks for at least a few days but Thailand is a great place to travel public transport is very cheap 300 miles on sleeper train for 870 bht . Thanks for your vids they keep me entertained for 20 minutes 😅
I tend to stay in D Apartment which is opposite New Plaza so I have quite a few drinks down there especially en route to soi 7. Also you pointed out that restaurant on the corner the green one next door the golden ferret is really good too, they do Lamb shank as a special on a Friday and it falls off the bone. They do decent Thai food too of course.
Pattaya is a resort located on the Eastern Seaboard of a 'massive Industrial Estate' here in Thailand. You need to get away from these types of tourist traps to see real Thailand and REAL THAI people! Don't base your impressions on anything like what you see and find in Pattaya!
Totally agree my village life with my wife and family is a million miles away from this city
Yeah if you think Soddom & Gemorah on Sea is representative of Thailand as a whole you're clueless.
Great comment very true.
If Katie price was a city.
i like Pattaya, pretty real to me.
"no money, no honey."
sounds familiar, world over.
we can bang on about all the other shit, but thats what its get down to.
For years, I had a 29 inch waist, now it's 40 inches. I worked hard, got lots of exercise and training, and I never had much 'dosh'. Now I'm financially comfortable... and a bit fat. I've never visited Thailand, but your videos are a nice 'travelogue'.
Get out here mate and have a scream
A key to happiness is being able to be on your own without feeling like you have to interact with others. Being able to ignore the phone. Being able to entertain yourself, not feeling guilty about saying no to others, not feeling like you owe an explanation to anyone.
Also, accept and manage boredom. It doesn't always have to be that you are occupied with something. Just accept the fact that boredom exists, just like depression exists. Those that accept this as a natural part of life are a step ahead of the game, and will find much less stress and disappointment in their lives.
Such a true statement mate
@@Innuendo236 Wise man he was ! 😇
I am the only foreigner in my village too but I love it.... Learn to read Thai mate it makes a massive difference in learning
You are so right Trev, holidays are fine for the full on partying but when living there you have to ease off, I usually set myself up with a routine where I make sure I get up by 7 every morning (this includes when I have been out on the town), walks, cycling and beach are what I do to keep occupied.
Absolutely!!
I totally get how ya feel mate
Nice one
You are my hero
Everything in moderation my friend.
Nice one mate thank you
You’ve hit it spot on with the question of how to fight boredom and resist the nightly bar temptation.
Can and does easily happen
brilliant video Trev... and very very true... retirement is lovely, I retired at 40, but got more physically unfit/unhealthy (and covid didnt help at all) than any other time in my life... to an almost dangerous heart attack/stroke level... retirement is the fast track to the grave..especially if drinking every day!! gotta keep busy and active and moderate the alcohol!! Boredom can literally be a killer!!!
Well said mate
Thanks for sharing your experience with us mate
I live a healthy lifestyle and fitter than I have ever been since moving here
Fantastic mate
clean beaches ?????
isnt there the Pattaya sports club, many events. there is a library, get a daily massage, golf once or twice weekly, enjoy meals, drink moderately, rent company occasionally, do your visa stuff, your medical stuff, do some internet… and the days shud go by without boredom
Many sports clubs
yeah PSC is good, golf, bowls, etc
had a great time playing bowls at the retreat.
had to put a comma at the cricket invitation though
During my many trips to Pattaya, I played golf most days. Between the round of golf and lunch, ect, it’s easy to kill 5 or 6 hours. This last trip, I was not able to play due to back surgery. Your topic of becoming bored, hit home. As I’m not a big drinker, and don’t chase every women I find attractive “anymore”, it really became evident that I was getting bored. Hopefully I will be able to play golf by my next visit, but if not, I’ll take your advice and find something else to fill my day. Thanks as always
Hope your back heals fast mate
They say that every man needs 3 hobbies.
A physical one (lifting, martial arts, team sports...)
A cerebral one (reading, chess, mathematics...)
And a creative one (music, writing, painting...)
Commit to one of each and you will never feel lost or bored.
where does sleeping fit in mate lol and of course watching Emmerdale
Amen to that!
I do all three but bored with it now
Yes, I know the videos you’re talking about.

Yeah sound advice that mate
Day mate That's just how I'm feeling This past week, Great to hear you share precisely the same thought on the subject, I have been trying not to drink as an EXCAPE from boredom, My Thai wife Works part-time, but she makes sure that I have nothing to do, Because she looks after me so well, I have been doing the UA-cam thing, But when I see a bloke Making a video on how to make scrambled eggs In 3 months he gets 65K views, I lose heart, and yes I am getting so lazy, Slipping into the Facebook and UA-cam watching Zombie, which I hate so much, PS I'm in Rural Thailand, Cheers Great to hear you share precisely the same thought on the subject,
Glad you enjoyed the video mate

Great vlog mate, hope all is good with you 👍
100% correct mate
Hey Trev., good video. Here's my story. I had a pretty good job in Texas and a beautiful home. I became bored at work in June 2022 so I decided to sell the house and quit my job. I landed in Phuket in August. Started renting by the month then decided to buy a condo, it gave me something to do. So, here we are in February. Now I'm bored. I've never had any hobbies, I was always working too hard. My monthly budget is around 65,000 baht per month so I'm OK there. My condo is at the top of a very steep hill so it does take a fair amount of effort to go out and drink.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us mate much appreciated
Thanks for sharing mate and sorry I missed ya mate
5 days maximum I can last in Pattaya before getting bored and somewhat depressed. Staying in a giant brothel soon loses its appeal for me and I move on. No idea how you manage to live there. It would send me crazy!
I agree with what you're saying however the one thing I will say is there is so much to do outside of the city or nearby
@@Buzzinpattaya Like what? The same old cr@p. I had to gtfo. Pattaya is a khazi.

Very true!

Retired expat from the US. Lived in Thailand almost five years. Haven't been bored for a single day. Every day is awesome and an adventure!!
fantastic
huh!
Well said mate
Love these videos because you bring up real issues that people face in retirement. Keep them coming.
Thank you mate I just say how I think and feel
I came to Thailand to work, ended up marrying, lost my job when Covid came and been retired since. Not one day of boredom yet. An occasional weekend in Pattaya helps.
Nice one
I don’t drink in my home country and only drink a few in Thailand - I’m heading to Thailand today and appreciate the reminder to have self control -books help me with up country life but Pattaya and cash keep my boredom away - massages etc I recommend Bayview as a treat - Your videos are entertaining
Have a great trip
People get bored no matter where they live, I'd rather have moments of bordem in Asia then at home. Good topic, just try and enjoy every day without the obvious vices (alcohol drugs) retirement is a lifestyle that you have to adjust too.
Cheers mate well said
Longer stay say 3 months then as others a routine of going to the gym, walks to all different soi's, photography, motorcycle riding, visit different towns exploring it and going to a coffee shop to watch some YT vids to pass the time. Trev has it right you need a hobby or things to whittle away the time.
Thanks for the tips!
Drinking is what you do in Patts but when I lived there for 5 years I found that I had spells of going heavy on it but if you manage to find a good girl and (it can be done) then you can just cruise along nicely as you would anywhere.
Just keep it real mate like you said
Nice one Trevor.
Old age is not nice, feeling it a bit myself
Great topic that most don’t realize. It may be heaven on earth but the down time will get to you and everything gets old doing it everyday for too long.
Great idea to cover this. !
You're righ6. Just like back in our home countries when we retire. Must have routine with many healthy physical and mental activities to sustain you such as gym or cardio outside and perhaps take a Thai Class to keep the mind sharp.
Cheers mate, thank you
I'm thinking of retiring to pattaya. And boredom is a massive fear of mine. I get bored in uk , and possibly it will be the same out there. Been so cold in uk this winter. Time I finish thinking about it. Itll be to late . 🤣 cheers Trev
Gotta keep busy mate
Great video as always my friend, I have not made it there as of yet, but soon I hope to. Freezing my arsh here in New York, watching you sweating encourages me to no end to get there and enjoy the weather. Boredom, more than likely I would volunteer at the orphanage or animal shelter, Peace
Hope you get out soon mate
Hello Trev.
Been here in pattaya many years i know many people said enough is enough i am moving out of here within a year they all come back saying they missed the place.
Its a funny old game.
haha yeah I get that mate
Living in Southeast Asia for most of the past decade I've found Pattaya to be one of the easiest places to live long term. As you mentioned, temptations abound at every turn. But the level of convenience also comes with the possibility of boredom when what was exotic and is now commonplace.
Gotcha mate, thanks for sharing
Yeah am slowly but surely getting bored of alcohol
I love the distance you have for yourself (and I know it's not just acting for camera, I had a pleasure to meet you on buzzin bar crawl)
Cheers mate and yes what you see is how I am mate, have a good day
Very good advice Trev me and my mates non stop on it every night pre covid soi7/ Soi 8 and go back to soi new plaza my g/f working in that restaurant then we go back to surin now nice and peaceful village life
Love village life
Love your honesty. None.
As ya said mate gotta control temptation
Trevor,
Set yourself a decent routine, I walk Jomtien and Dongtan beaches twice a day 5am and 5pm, a full english twice a week at Nicky's in soi bukow (99b) a couple of specials at cheap charlies using reward card (99b) in the week otherwise its all thai food.
Nice one mate
yep, that's it, get a routine and also get into some social group because as well as boring it could get a bit lonely.
Think Pratamnak looks like a nice area to live, best of both worlds. How people get bored is strange, theres a million things you could do doing/learning to past the day. Keep active drink less is good advice Trev. All the best man.
Yes, you are right
Interesting video Trev , personally I like to take a walk on the beach from dusit hotel to walking street to pass the time in the day or go and watch a movie in the afternoon , thanks as always
Nice one mate
Nice one mate
Great topic as my Thai wife ponder the chance of retiring in Thailand, definitely not central Pattaya. My question to you is what about your significant other? I get getting tired of the bars etc but don't you both have things your do together. Does she work so she's busy and you've got free time?
Yeah try to include her in most things mate
Very good topic. When I'm over normally for a month or at least 3 weeks. A couple times a year. I end up drinking most of the time. And it leaves your body and worse your mind all messed up. I love thailand .. but as a person I love routine and need it to be productive. Good topic Trevor
Absolutely agree the drink is not a good thing
Easiest thing to do is sit in the bars all day. Also that’s the unhealthiest too. I was there for a month in September. I hired a pushbike, went to the gym, long walks etc. You have to have a structure and purpose in life.
Well said
Where did you hire the pushbike from please ? .

Nice one mate thank you for sharing

I see why you started your video at Sun Fitness. It's a good hint! When I was there, that was a good bulk of my morning time activities. Yes, I am tempted to retire, but at this time, I still cannot honestly answer what will I pursue after I retire. I have less than 10 years to pull that ripcord but it is one hell of a question to answer... And yes, I did feel a bit of boredom in Pattaya in the mornings, that's why I went to the gym.
do what works best mate and then feet up and relax
I would love to live in Pattaya. The weather is always warm. You can go for a walk at any time of the day or night. The people are friendly and you dont have to worry about getting robbed or worse. The beach is always open. You have great healthcare that's affordable. I'm not a big drinker but you can always find a place to go. Same with females. If you want some company, it's always available. I am a morning person so I would like to find a place to workout or play some racquet sports. Great golf courses are available. Rainy season may be the only downside.

I appreciate your honesty, Trevor. Maybe the boredom factor has something to do with the lack of mental stimulation in a place like Pattaya?
Very possible or laziness

Truth is mate I am flat out working and lost the time or energy
While I was there for 3 months I just walked around a lot to stay in shape. Started in Pattaya then to Chang mai and ended in Bangkok. Got a great tattoo on the cheap. Lessons I learned from visiting is, do not start your vacation by going on a bar crawl. After the bar crawl i got Covid. That lasted 3 weeks. So if you have plans to scuba or snorkeling. Get those things done first. Then go after the lady. Oh I walked like 4.5 miles a day
That's a long walk mate lol, have a good day
Going to the gym or walking should be something that is done every day. It is healthy and will give you something to do. Then eat healthy foods once or twice a day.

I am coming to bkk early March hopefully long term. While my gf is working I am sure shall explore things and have me time to adjust to being there long term .. will take up Thai lessons, walk , & travel, I rarely drink

Nice one I wish you all the best
it's an excellent topic to have discussed...boredom does set in for me and i'm usually there a little over 2 weeks and sometimes i do have to take a day or two off just to regroup...either little or no alcohol and just walk around no matter the time...sometimes i'll just sit by the pool and just enjoy the day...the city sells easily 1 million bottles of beer on any given day is my guess...and i'm planning on staying in somerset soon, definitely glad you got an outside shot of it
Thanks for sharing your thoughts mate and yeah lots of beer sales lol
Yes Trevor it's the drink that nails us down, I used to drink a lot, but 80 years now have to count maybe two bottles a day , is ok, but must exercise every day, can make it , if careful,
Exactly as you said
I gained 2.5 kg after staying two weeks in Pattaya.
Nice one mate
I used to stay at the Somerset hotel in Manila. They were nice. Not too expensive too. I know the General Manager of the ones in Malaysia. Nice guy.
Nice one mate
Looks to be another lovely day in fun city, thanks for sharing Trev.
Welcome mate
Chess club, Thai cooking classes, birding, yoga, meditation, website building, screenwriting...etc.

Good observations Buzzy! Of most importance is exercise…to keep from being bored get on the Jomtien bus and go to swampy to avail of the other countries that are close by and a pittance airfare. Variety is the spice of life❤
Well said mate cheers
Great walk about. Just curious how much do I owe for the counseling session?
Hahaha nothing
i was sat in the treetown food court with two ladies about a month back when one of the really nasty centipedes ran under our table, it was about 12" long and i know how bad the bite can be from one of these, i shouted to the girls to lift their feet in the air and when it emerged i stamped on it......little sod just ignored me and carried on running, the Thais started hitting it with broom handles and it must have taken about ten hits before it stopped moving, one of the guys flipped it over to show me the huge fangs which were about an inch long!!
Scary stuff! I was in Pattaya for three months and I’ve never seen one of those and I’m glad
Very dangerous those mate
Well.done..Trevor..it..was..a..very...important..topic..to..keep..ourselves..busy..!!!!
Thanks mate
I guess its the old saying ... " Travelling through a place vs living there are two totally different scenarios".
Absolutely mate
What about just riding your bike around the country? Go fishing, sit on the beach? Maybe a boat to cruise around? Look for antique shops? Go see the south and see the ruby mines?
Gotcha mate
If you are going to live there, learn Thai, train in Mauy Thai, plan holidays within Thailand.
Well said
Hi Trev thanks for this video it’s really put a lot of things into perspective I’ve just done my second trip to Pattaya And even in just two weeks there was a sense of boredom like you said you do need to occupy yourself in the daytime otherwise you’ll just be in danger of drinking yourself to death just wanna say your buzzing bar was fantastic as well great bar girls and met some great expats had a great time there 👍🇹🇭
It's easy for the sparkle here to disappear and quicker than you realise.
Getting over this problem unlocks the rest of the world to you
Mate I am crap with technology, no.other way to.put it, my livestream demonstrate that lol
No rain? There was a thunderstorm with heavy rain in Soi Buakhau yesterday around 4 o'clock. I know that because I am in Pattaya and I watched the rain on my balcony.
Mate I have to pre record the video it's not live lol
My Temptation is learning the Thai Language..สาธุ Nice Topic Trevor.Good on ya..

Thanks mate
1000% Correct it’s the carbs ! Bread , rice , pasta , processed foods ! Keep it simple Eggs , Meat. , chicken , Fish , Greens and Some low sugar Yogurt. I’m 64 never been healthier
A good daily walk or a good swim, will stop boredom, and will refresh and recharge a tired body, make it become a good habit, and you will feel much more positive with life, in Thailand. 😉🙏🙏
Well said!

Nice one mate hit me up on Discord
3:50 every day is like Sunday. Was a seaside town that they forgot to close down
Gotcha mate
Morrissey?
Nice clip of Pattaya wich you could improve, with the free Route-Generator, so the viewer of you video can follow your way and will know, where there are the delicous tacos and so on. I go here in Switzerland, everyday for a walk in the forest and have after one, or some more hour, about 10'000 steps. So I stay fit and can eat, what I want.
Thank you for your suggestion if you have time please would you email me a link as I've never heard of this
Thanks for another interesting topic and route. Good shout for the restaurant at the bottom of New Plaza, ate there on my last trip and enjoyed a few visits to Mr Bean bar along that side.
Thanks mate
Unfortunately I've seen at first hand, expats with no interests or hobbies turning into alcoholics.
It's vital you have things to do during the day to pass the time.
sadly me too mate
I certainly got a bit lost like that for a while, not in Thailand, in Egypt .I'd lived and worked there for a few years and the work dried up, plus i had a bad split with my girlfriend. So I did the saddo thing and with time and money available i just kept going to the bars, daily. Luckily I just don't have that ' alcoholic ' gene,so after about 6 months or so of living in a drunken blur, I just pulled myself together and sorted myself out. Not pleasant, and easy trap to fall into and sadly some don't get out of it. In the right enviroment i can still certainly enjoy a drink, but on a day to day basis i just cant be arsed to be honest, there's plenty more to do
go on the piss then relax @ nightime
Aye if I hadn't met my Thai wife I would be dead now
@@Buzzinpattaya I run an isometric/ dynamic tension class @soi 20 Naklua - great if you want to exercise , build muscles, get fitter without damaging your joints .
We do exercises based on ‘ Harry Wong ‘ who was a student of Bruce Lee . They make you strong and healthy . The class is free .
Thank you for sharing your experience I hope you have a great time here
I think this is my favorite video. Love the commentary.
Wow, thanks!
If getting pissed all day is your biggest problem you're a lucky man 😘
I wish lol
I tend to stay in D Apartment which is opposite New Plaza so I have quite a few drinks down there especially en route to soi 7. Also you pointed out that restaurant on the corner the green one next door the golden ferret is really good too, they do Lamb shank as a special on a Friday and it falls off the bone. They do decent Thai food too of course.
Thanks for sharing your experience mate
Go for exercise. Walk home. Rest. Shower. Gor for a massage. Have lunch. Then relax onnthe beachbwith a swim. Hotel relax. Shower then your night out.
Thanks for the tips!
