What an incredible band. I hope they don't just drop 1 amazing album and then disappear
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
@@taylorgibsoncooper brUHHHH
Stop STOP 😭😭😭
I mean… They started making a second record and realize that it just wasn’t going to be a special so they opted to quit and shelve the material. it was never meant to be anything more than a side project and when they tried to push it they realized they were right in that decision
Lmaooooooooo
ahhh 2003, when every musician had a Line 6 delay loop pedal for every instrument.
Hahahaha
Yes indeed
they just released the DL4
ahhh 2003, when every musician had a Line 6 delay loop pedal for every instrument. ahhh 2003, when every musician had a. ahhh 2003, when every m. ahhh 200. ahhh. a.
I love how Jenny doesn't over sing; she subtly adds her vocals where it needs an uplift to enhance the song. Bens lyrics are really the shining star in this band.
And that, ladies and gentlepersons, is unabridged, timeless, raw talent captured at fifteen frames per second for prosperity and beyond.
I think it’s more like 5 frames per second but yeah.
It's ladies and gentlemen get it right
Maybe 15 frames per minute
*Posterity, but yes.
Truth
I remember watching this video when I was in high school in 2004. They meant so much to me then and still do! Just saw them play at The Hollywood Bowl. Loved it!
I was at that show too, man… it was great!!!!
It's 2019 and this is still just wonderful to listen to.
2021
This performance beats the later years even with Dntel additives.
@@maliceentity it truly does. You can tell that excitement of discovering this sound has yet to fade within Ben’s many songs.
No one's going to complain about the frame rates because the recording itself is GOLD !
Exactly
Makes it even more nostalgic, love it
Omg Ben’s run to the drums is legendary
I don't think I love anything more than Ben running for the drums mid-song.
Was happening as I read this 🤔
It's been 16 years. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self how important this album would always be, and remember to listen to it when things got dark. It all holds up. The lyrics mean so much more after growing up and everything I've been thru. The heartbreak, the loss, the addiction. It's all represented in the lyrics here. I will be taking another journey with this album. Incredible.
Really puts how quickly time passes.. feels like yesterday, yet it's almost 20 years later.
Will never get those years back but this takes you back for a moment.
Sammmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeee
My best friend and I used to listen to this album together all the time when it came out. He passed away two years, ago. This video is making my cry fuckin rivers
Yeah, i feel you.
I read these lines in a Pitchfork "Best of 2000s" review: "Give Up is mid-decade indie pop flawlessly preserved in amber .... Let’s appreciate the album for what it is: An exquisite time capsule that probably can’t-and probably shouldn’t-be duplicated." These words really struck me as perfect for The Postal Service.
I loved listening to them back then when I was in the Army.
How dare he speak at the beginning of "Such Great Heaghts!" Lol really good stuff Love it!
and he yapped over the guitar solo!
I wanted to slap the accent off of him when he did that
That guy ruined it
how does this not have a million views? this is probably the most on par performance in contrast to the album. since it was shortly after the album was done.
So friggin true!
Think it positive. All the alternative music, since pop to experimental, is only reserved to a few people. It's not to fill a stadium. Is our treasure.
This was such a gem at the time , you could save the Audio to computer and play all day. The vid took forever to “stream” it drove me nuts
It's the way it is but go to a festival we are out there oh boy are we out there
Best part not having a million views I know every word!!!!!! And this is it going to a gig !! ‘!!!
I come back to this about once a year. Today is that day.
you cannot listen to the postal service without getting goose bumps every time.
Literally had them as I just read this. What a trip 😳
Or bawling hysterically?
I remember when this first came out,and watching this now gives me major flashbacks to a simpler time.
Yesss!! Read my band flash bak which jus rolled off th not so tooo amazing to shout out bands gigs !’!!
IT IS HAPPENING, EVERYONE! 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR WITH DEATH CAB 😭❤️
300 bucks a pop for the nosebleed section.
@@turdferguson2982 tickets were a lot cheaper, at around $100 for in front of the stage, when they had just gone on sale, which I think is pretty amazing
@@Dilara_____it was like 1400 for the pit in Michigan.
It's 2020 and this album has aged beautifully, feels like it could've been released yesterday.
It's such a masterpiece. I'm glad they never released anything else. Quit while you're ahead is the winner's strategy and it's cemented their place in legendary epic status.
Exactamento.ive jus rememberd every band that jus rolled off my rambling!!!! U said it !!!
It’s so timeless in it’s songwriting and it’s sonic aesthetic. 2022 and it still is one of the best and most influential electronic/indie projects
The video quality has not aged well though haha
Seriously though💯
It's crazy what a great live singer he is. He sounds just like the album.
I miss his old young voice so much but its just a reminder that time does fly. Heres to 20 beautiful years of this masterpiece.
Nothing has ever been captured in a bottle like this. It came and went but is alive in our hearts still till this day. ❤️
Yes! 🥰❤️👍🏻
Ben looks so adorkable in this video. I love it.
I could listen to TDSAT every day and never get tired of it. . .
Holy moly almost 20 years old... what a magnificent album
The best bands die young...
But live forever
2022 and still love them and listen to them all the time
These songs bring back some many memories and feelings. What an amazing album!
My god, Jenny Lewis is just absolutely divine.
wow just seeing this for the first time. unbelievable performance
9:30 the drum solo part of we will become silhouettes is my favorite part of the song
Just left the second 20th anniversary show in LA and man this holds up so well.
Saw them live in Brooklyn during this period during a trip to NY. This brings back so many memories!!! Incredible stuff!
2023 and still lovely🖤
Raw and intimate.
Still sophisticated.
Thank you so much for this upload and getting up so early ;-)
This is FUCKING awesome .. Really really love this band ..makes me Cry ..thanks for upload this !!!
I get emotional too. Nostalgic as fuck!
exceptionally underrated and largely forgotten to time and changes in taste. This and LCD Soundsystem deserve a dusting off semi annually for the purposes of mind and soul refreshment. The thoughtfully soulful lyrics and minimalist sound is like poetry- every note in just the right place.
I feel like that last bit was specific 😉
Next album will drop any day now....
my favorite album. the soundtrack of the best moments of my life. pure beauty.
what's amazing is that they didn't have very much time to practice playing together, and how the songs needed to be played live. still blown away by the album, it's one of those that just fell together perfectly, smooth and effortless seeming, magic
Besttt raw STILL differ unique sound!!
Jenny Lewis was just as vital to the band as Ben or Jimmy with her backing vocals alone.
@Taylor Holloway by definition a duo is a band, anything more than a solo act is a band. Your pedantry is wrong. Moreover Jenny Lewis is billed as a member of their duo.
I saw her in concert once and it was awesome
The nostalgia is overwhelming. Thanks for posting
Just...... perfection.... and I really mean that.
Glad this popped up. Reminds me of the first time I was in love and the first time I was heart broken.
Man I am with you there. I had to avoid this music for so many years.
Still one of the best trios.
Everyone looks so young.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. How lucky are we to have this beautiful rare footage!
36:33 Bens face when he's suprised that the backing track has him signing "and I"
He almost busted out laughing....
This was my go-to study music back in the day
this is fucking fantastic. thank you.
Wow, I am in a 4-days youtube cruise, putting together a radio show. Today's episode I started with shoegaze and at a ceratin point I ended up here. I can't express how happy I am with what I hear AND SEE. Not only the great age of internet, but this music... I never could really define the sound of the 2000's but somehow this and Sigur Rós does it for me. There are many others of course, I only named two. Wow. Thanks, you got some amazing archive, subscribed, no hesitation.
I don't watch the whole set of most bands on YT, but when I do, it's this one.
This whole thing was a cosmic anomaly. Every aspect of this project just fell into its place as if it was some sort of fate for them to exist at all.
So much breakthrough music around those years.
So happy I got to see these guys on their one reunion tour they did a while back. One of my favorite albums of all time, never gets old.
I love everything about Jenny Lewis. She is seriously the coolest person. She got to be an actress, be the front woman of Rilo Kiley, was in The Postal Service and then started a solo career. She’s an indie titan
Let's not leave out that she's on some of the best songs on Cursive's 'The Ugly Organ'. Her touch is on so much music, and it's always brilliant.
And she's staying knowingly cool when Ben switches to go low on rpm early performance. I'd love to have that woman in my band.
I have the hugest innocent crush on her and have since the wizard. Of course she really had me when I heard her singing voice for the first time.
Ditto. She's the coolest and beautiful too
man...I love Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kelly, and PS and somehow never knew that was her goddamn
Reminds me so much of when I saw them live. My favorite band ever!!! Take me forever to find this video again..THANK YOU
Keith Richards No problem, I found this on an old hard drive, unfortunately I grabbed it off a low quality web stream, but the audio is pretty good. Amazing artists and great to watch live. Cheers!
144p 20fps is actually really nostalgic, like the icing on the cake of a great performance
Pure gold, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for putting this up.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This is so intimate and spot on! Thank you
So happy to have stumbled upon this
This is amazing to see , you made my morning!
Thank you for uploading
Really awesome to stumble upon this!
Ty for this upload. Good stuff, here. Good stuff
i think this album became the blueprint for so many indie/pop/electronica that stole their vibe and rehashed it, over and over .
Owl city being one of the most egregious examples.
and over and over and over and over and over
even death cab rehashed it
@@billyalarie929 ew a what
this whole recording is just so beautiful
Simply Beautiful
That was pretty good. Thank you
Don’t know why algorithm’s brought me here but I dont regret stopping here this sounds like 2003 forsure hard to believe it was 20 years ago
Thanks for the upload John, I travelled in time thanks to this! Greetings from Guatemala!
5 people couldn’t get a drink in this place.
I lived in Santa Monica then and KCRW was the soundtrack of my life- Zero 7, Sia, Postal Service…
Nuts. So glad this was captured. And the audio is decent! Amazing
Omg what treasure did I just stumble upon???? I'm not worthy!
I had this whole album on my iPod mini in jr. High
Thank you sir, you just Brought my youth come back🚀🚀
what a treat thanks
This is GOLD!!!!!!!
Beautiful
Holy shit. I was led here after watching air. Damn, this is inspiring! After having been a fan of both bands for so many years, just wow, inspiring
Can't believe it's been almost 20 years!
Wow! Amazing footage!
Awesome band and set list 😊🎶❤️😊🎶❤️
It’s great because the postal service has a movie soundtrack quality to the instruments. These songs will outlast me
this is akin to me finding an old live set of Saosin at Arlene's Grocery so many years ago. Awesome awesome. damn i'm cheesing hard at this
I have a Saosin set too from 2003 in Sacramento (not sure if this link will work) - ua-cam.com/video/UGEZf6LN98Y/v-deo.html
John Matulich umm...wow, those are all golden as well. man i should really try to find some stuff i recorded on old cassette and digis. i recorded so much from like 00-05. from saves the day to reggie and the full effect, dcfc, tguk...ugh. they're somewhere dammit!! anyway, thanks for the uploads, subbed!
Thanks for these!!
Thank you for uploading this! I've never seen it. This band as well as death cab defined my teens. I saw you have Sparta videos too. Gotta check those out soon.
My prized possession is my 2004 translucent red vinyl edition of Give Up, the grooves worn out on "Brand New Colony" which has always been my favourite. I fucking love this album. What a great time for indie
i so happily enjoyed this immensely 🎵🎶
wow this is so great thank you postal service
wow.. this is amazing
This place is a prison fits like a glove these days. It was always a sad song of what could be, now it’s a piece of paper bound by a spine of what reflects our lives.
2020 and still great to watch
Wow. That was really good.
It’s 2002 and this album aged beautifully
I want what's this guy is smoking!
It's nowadays and i still enjoy your upload.
Ben, running to the drums. ❤
This is gold
This is incredible
Been listening since 2004 no idea Rilo Kiley member was in this! Watching this way too late in life. Chris Walla and Travis Morrison from Dismemberment Plan was a great mention here. Both of them also worked with So Many Dynamos!
