I had to learn to give some of my quilts away (it took a therapist). And I’m getting older and running out of room. So my daughter’s college friends are getting married or establishing households so I have gifted them. We take a pic of three we think may work and let them choose. 4 so far, a new generation enjoying quilts. And my oldest friend and her mother that has severe dementia now but still remembers me with a smile when she touches the quilt. And my 3 high school forever friends and their spouses/significant others (separate quilts). And others. It has become fun and allows me to step outside my comfort zone with pattern and color.
I give away practically every quilt I make. I just don’t need many myself. But I am excited that I’ll be able enjoy the last “favorite” quilt I made… it’s for my son and daughter-in-law’s in-law suite! Lol… it was beautiful to sleep under. 💚
Ok, this video finally convinced me. I'm going to make a lap throw quilt and use the flannel and minky and minky binding. If that goes as well as yours I may do all my future quilts that way. It just looks so wonderfully soft and drapy. I hope you make a quilt like this for yourself soon. And thank you for the picture!
Yes...you need to do this....❣ If you look back in my videos I did a series on a 4 patch pink quilt that I made the same as this one...and it is my favorite...so I know this combo works!!!!!
Love it! I would never have thought of using the flannel inside with the minky backing. It really worked out. I am now rethinking the quilt I promised my brother and his wife.
I love how you created such an amazing quilt so quickly. The use of the pelon vs the press-and-seal is such a better option. And minky binding is perfect!
yes! the lightweight stretch interfacing was a game changer for needing to be quick with minky. The best part is....it stays in the quilt...no picking out press n seal.
At age 68 now, it feels like I want easy peasy. For example, I loved your original large block of strips before cutting it up. Lazy me says, make big blocks of strip sets. You did such a nice job on this beautiful quilt. Thank you....I surprised myself and gave one of my quilts to a dear friend recently.
This quilt would be perfect for my sister. She recently redid her living room in grey and white and recently added area rugs that has some turquoise. Will have to think about doing one for her. It is beautiful! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's one of your favorites because you know you have to give it away! I know their colors were gray/white but now was the time to use that hideous 70s floral print you had laying around... I know you do...
I love, love the word you use, “nuggy❣️” you’ve expanded my quilt vocabulary 😂❣️ This quilt was fast, scrappy and monochromatic! It will be loved for sure😍 Thanks for the great video and idea😊❤️🐥
I have never made a quilt for myself. I have collected fabric to make several but I have only made quilts for family and friends kids and grandkids. I have a projects list of quilts to make, and cross stitch’s for friends listed for each month from now until December. I had a conversation with myself and realized I work a lot and I live alone with 2 kitties and I do not have anyone to cuddle with. I am not dating nor have anyone whom seems interested in me in that way. I was recently told by an old friend that I have no life because I am single. WOW!!! That really hurt!!! However, you have inspired me to start a quilt before the end of the year for myself. And, I started praying for someone to come into my life. You and your husband make an adorable couple!!! Your friends will love their quilt!! 💕
What a beautiful quilt! I will try that fusible when making scrappy donation quilts to stabilize the edges before layering to quilt. Thanks for this tutorial! 💕🧵🌸👏👏
I agree! This turned out to be a beautiful quilt! Someday I am going to totally copy this. Ithink I already have the grays & whites I'll need. Thank you!
I love that quilt,my hubby been asking when he gets his own quilt.i love the gray, but I think I'm going blues to match his beautiful eyes 😍 thanks for allvyour tutorials I get so much information.
I got the fabric and pattern for a quilt for our nephew and his wife. Hubby came into the sewing room, he said we can’t give that one away. We now have another quilt and I still have to make one for our nephew.
Amazon used to sell GET THIS: 20 fat quarters from Free Spirit for $22-24 dollars. Well, I bought SEVERAL. I received Anna Marie Horner's collection of beautiful desaturated colors. I made a quilt with them. Desaturated colors/monochromatic are soothing to the eye. Thanks for demonstrating this.
Most of the quilts I make are to give away for Hospice so I don't really have an attachment to them. However, quilts I've made for myself earlier are precious to me and would be tough to give away. Thankfully my children will get them when I go to glory ❤. I love this pattern, Tracy, really well done!!
That is so awesome that you give your quilts to hospice… Such a great cause❣️ most of my quilts will also be handed down to my children and grandchildren eventually♥️
Wow! I'm so happy I caught your tutorial today! I'm just about to back a baby quilt with minky and I haven't ever tried it before. That said, I'm going to try a minky binding now too. Thanks for sharing that fusible tip too! I'm over the moon!!!❤🎉❤
I think we have a new product here…”the Quilky”! All of the vintage heritage of quilting a blanket for your family with the snuggability of the modern day throw! I like it!
Thanks for another great video Tracy. Love the monochromatic quilt can’t imagine the doing it quilt that fast have a great rest of your weekend. Suzanne
When you said you loved the quilt, I hollered, "But you have to give it away!" I know how you feel, though. While I have several to give away or sell, I have a few that are mine. The Scrap Berry quilt is mine! That one is too precious. I like this grey one. I'm going to have to go through my slowly growing stash to figure out what color I want to try.
My husband told me once that I should sell some of my quilts bc I had so many! I only have 10 but they’re all HAND QUILTED!!! Are you serious I asked! He said yeah I said heck no! Never!!! Is he crazy!??? LoL they just don’t get it! I told him my quilts are all going to the kids and he said well don’t wait till you’re gone give them what you want them to have so they won’t have to fight over them. I said good idea I’ll make each one their OWN quilt but they’re not getting any of mine until I’m gone! 😂 So I took his advice and started making my 3 boys and my 7 grandchildren their own quilt! I only have 3 tops done so far with many more to go and I will quilt them on my Janome HD9 machine I just purchased 🥰 Your quilt is lovely especially with that beautiful minky on the back! It’s just yummy I’m gonna make one for myself with some minky! I should have put minky on the lap quilt I made for myself using feedsack fabrics and I’m hand quilting it also! I love hand quilting but I can’t hand quilt one to give away I just can’t 😂😍 Thank you for sharing all your inspirations 💞
Love watching your videos. You remind me so much of one of my very vest friends. I just listen and watch and think wow they sound n look so much alike.
I thought I was one of a very few quilters that keep their quilts. I also have no problem gifting my quilts if I made it for a specific person or event but the ones I make for fun or when creative juices are flowing are still in my house. Glad you and I are in the same "mine, mine, mine" club. Great tutorial again, thanks
Beautiful colorway, great job. I only have 2 quilts I made, a QOV for my husband and a reject that my husband made no comment on when I showed him. The rest have been made for friends and family.
I couldn’t possibly keep all the quilts I make. I love to give them away and know they will be used and enjoyed by the recipients. I do keep some of course. And I keep photos of them all. So much easier to store a photo.
Excellent video. Beautiful quilt. I haven’t used minky yet but definitely want to. This video helped with my decision on it. I will be trying your method on a quilt. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise.
Working with minky is not that difficult...I kept trying minky until I got it right...this combo in this video is perfect. Maybe try a baby quilt first until you feel confident. Thank you for supporting my video🩶
Good thing my husband doesn't watch my special quilting channels. You are an inspiration. I have been putting off hemming a pair of jeans for my husband. A quilt. Oh my. Love the quilt. I know your husband must have something special planned for you.
That is one nice monochromatic beauty, Tracy! Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks and teaching us that sometimes going the road less traveled leads to wonderful creations. ❤❤❤
I’m with you I’m happy to make something to gift but don’t ask me to give away a quilt I was expecting to keep. The quilt looks great. It’s really helpful to know how to make a quick quilt.
Yep; it definitely makes a difference if you know ahead of time you will be giving a quilt away! Not allowing yourself to become too attached, to begin with, and thinking of what colors/theme/design they will appreciate, while you’re making it, as well as the delight of them receiving it, certainly makes it easier to part with once finished! But one you’re already attached to??? Shock/fight or flight/terror!!! 😱 I wd absolutely prefer making another to give as a gift!!!
I'm getting ready to do my first minky backing and binding. I want the binding to be at least 2 inch wide showing. I think I get some of the stretch pelon interfacing to ensure the fabric binding lays flat after its sewn. 🌻Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks.
Love this quilt! And i have decided to make one similar. Today is the day. Thank you for all the lovely shares you do, and the detailed instructions. :)
I’m just like you! It is too hard to part with my quilts - they each hold a piece of my heart. If I know I’m giving it away from the beginning, I can usually give it away. But those quilts are few and far between. Having said that, I have given many quilts away, especially for charity. (I love the sound of your machine.)
Wonderful quick method and a great result. Like you, I get attached to my quilts and it's hard to part with them. I can't store them all, let alone use them all! So I am getting better at 'letting go.' I keep them for a year or two, and then I'm ready to send them out into the world.
It’s so true, we can’t hold onto all of them! I do end up giving most away, but I typically know ahead of time that they’re leaving the house lol so no time to get attachedHaha😆
It was great seeing a photo of your hubby!!! Seeing the pic really personalized your channel! Love the quilt! His cousins will love it, I'm certain!!! Agree about hesitating to part with quilts. I have same maternal feeling about them sometimes LOL. But after a couple years I begin to be able to part with them. We can't take them with us when we die, so I limit myself to a certain number of them and then think about who they should go to when the Lord takes me home.
Right...there is a maternal factor there for sure....so weird that it's like that...I think it's because we work so intimately with the fabric when we make it.🩶 I agree..we can't take it with us...blessing someone with a homemade quilt does the heart good too❣

I give away 99% of my quilts to Project Linus. I feel that love & loss each time. Sweet quilt gift.
That is such a great project to be a part of ❣
I give away practically every quilt I make. I just don’t need many myself. But I am excited that I’ll be able enjoy the last “favorite” quilt I made… it’s for my son and daughter-in-law’s in-law suite! Lol… it was beautiful to sleep under. 💚

I think I would have broken out in hives if my hubby asked for a quilt on short notice. But you did a fabulous job! Awesome!!!💜💜💜
YES....my heart starting beating fast as my husband was pilfering through my beloved quilts haha🤣

Oh I really want to try the flannel with minky! It looks dreamy!!
Totally dreamy❣️
I have so many at home I need to give them away. I love making them and giving them a good home.
That is a fantastic quilt. Just think of all the colors you could do. Thank you .❤🐾
It's one of your favorites because you know you have to give it away! I know their colors were gray/white but now was the time to use that hideous 70s floral print you had laying around... I know you do...
Right!!!! And I used up a lot of what was just hanging around in my sewing room! Great way to use it all up🩶
Out of the over 30 quilts I've made....I only kept 2. I LOVE giving mine away. It gives me an excuse to make another one :)
I forgot to say-ill bet your husband's host was really glad he asked him to stay. Lucky family to receive such a beautiful gift😊
They still don't know about it...but soon❣️
I love, love the word you use, “nuggy❣️” you’ve expanded my quilt vocabulary 😂❣️ This quilt was fast, scrappy and monochromatic! It will be loved for sure😍 Thanks for the great video and idea😊❤️🐥
When my kids were little that is how we said it...haha If it ain't nuggy then my kids would never sleep with it❣

What a beautiful quilt! I will try that fusible when making scrappy donation quilts to stabilize the edges before layering to quilt. Thanks for this tutorial! 💕🧵🌸👏👏

Great quilt. Love it. Will give it a go for my daughter who wants a grey tone quilt. 🐝🐝🇳🇿

Wow!
Tracy such creativity on the fly.
Way cool. Who knew Gray could be so dramatic. ❤❤❤ Your friend from New Mexico, Carla 🎶💐💖
♥️♥️♥️
What a fabulous housewarming gift and quilt story.
I love this quilt. You are really awesome at getting your wips done. It is sure to be loved by the recipients.
I'm best under pressure haha🤣 I'm sure they will love it...❣

Cracked me up when you talked about not being able to give up one of your quilts. I knew exactly what you were talking about. Lol❤😊
Right!!!!♥️
Nicely done!!! I can see why you didn't want to part with it after finishing. Very nice! 💜
Thank you Dori....my husband is so excited to give it to his cousins❤️
What a great tip on sewing the Minky pieces together.

Thanks so much for sharing. ❤👍from Somerset. UK
Great job, Tracy! So much work goes into making a quilt,so it's very hard to part with any of them!
This quilt turned out so beautifully but I'm not surprised! You rock 😀💙
❤️
That is a beautiful quilt. Gray is not my favorite, but that is really pretty!
Love a good monochromatic color scheme!!
Minky binding! I’m going to try it on my next quilt.
So empowering..estimulant.same here...easy giving away

Oh my this quilt is amazing thanks you😊
Very cool! I love that monochromatic look. ❤. I am going to try a minky backing for my next quilts and I will use that binding. Thanks for sharing!!❤😊

Trust me...my sewing room is a "hot mess" due to the fast hurricane of this quilt being made hahhaha🤣

I watched two times, the second time making notes. I have a gazillion stips and do intend to make this but using more colors.
Using a lot more color will look so good!❣️
I really love this. Thank you.

Oh my!! I love it Tracy!!! I think I would consider giving up another one lol
Right!❣️❣️❣️❣️
Though gray is not my favorite color it did turn out beautiful as all your quilts do.
Very creative and I love the greys and white color combinations. ❤ 😊 Hard to part with, but very nice gift
It’s a great color combo for sure❣️
Beautiful quilt!!!!!!!!
I agree...if I kept them all then I would need a storage unit.....haha🤣
Gorgeous! And I’m not a monochromatic gray colored person
Wow so simple and turned out stunning 🤩 ❤greetings from sunny Sweden
I would have had a hissy fit if my husband had asked for a quilt on such short notice 😳. But.. you pulled it off beautifully. ❤
Thank you Amy❣️

You are so kind Janie...thank you for the encouragement..I appreciate it so much❣️
Good thing my husband doesn't watch my special quilting channels. You are an inspiration. I have been putting off hemming a pair of jeans for my husband. A quilt. Oh my. Love the quilt. I know your husband must have something special planned for you.

Yep...I agree totally....If I know it's mine ...don't take it from haha🤣
Lovely quilt.
Looks fabulous!
That quilt is gorgeous!
Oh my goodness Miss Tracy that turned out GORGEOUS! That backing!!! Just dreamy. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Debbie! It even feels dreamy!♥️

You are absolutely right on❣️ and YES..oh the TERROR of someone pilfering through my quilts...LOL😱
Happy Quilting 🩶❤️🩶
I love it ❤. The colours as well as the pattern. Greetings from Normandy, France
Thank you for supporting my channel!❣️

Ohh the quilt! The recipient scored! Fantastic job, as usual Tracy.
Thank you so much Karin❣️

Wow ..really? you should totally make a quilt for yourself...YOU deserve it Kathleen❣️
Awesome cute and this is a great quilt.
