I was almost emotional there at the end. And when Kay talked about how wonderful she discovered it could be to be close to her parents again. I've been following you since about 3 months before Austin quit his previous job to really focus on Homesteady. It's been a beautiful story. Thank you.

that is so true. when I look for property the house is the last thing I look at. As long as it is livable I am good. I want to know how big the property is and what all is on it. fencing and outbuilding are a big plus for me.

alberta byers I wish you all the best!
Those are good things to look for. Be sure to give the dirt a good going over. I don’t think a lot of ppl think about the Dirt. Ask what kind of foods have been grow at the places you give a look see at. Ya don’t want to buy a place and not know if it’s safe for food crops. Or even for raising animals for food. Check out flood zones! Make sure the land is not over run with Fire Ants!! That’s a Biggie these days. Sadly we didn’t check for fire Ants! It’s very hard to work land and raise anything except More FIRE ANTS!
Even raised beds don’t fair well with FIRE ANTS. I know because that’s what’s wrong on the land we bought. And if anyone wants to try to tell you it’s easy or even doable. Do your own homework. We get rid of vine FIRE ANT mound. Only to have another three or more pop up in its place. Kids can’t play, in the dirt, covered with these horrible killing ANTS!
God Bless you and your loved ones.
      ✝️👼🙏🏼

The timing of this video is perfect. My husband just accepted a new job 2 hours away and we will be relocating, leaving our cozy quarter acre city lot for acreage in the country to start our homestead. It's scary to leave our life here behind, plus five years of hard work here in my gardens ( both edible and floral), but I'm ready for the adventure! I've been watching for about 3 years, thank you for helping to encourage me to do something scary!

Coolness, so now I know I started watching shortly after your move. I've been wanting to homestead for a while now. Rented an apartment in Cali, worked long hours just to live paycheck to paycheck. After several back to back disasters, moved my family out to TX. Still working hard but first paycheck of the month pays all the bills, I get to pocket the other 3. We're also living in a house now, meaning I have a yard for the first time. After I get rid of the ant, I'm gonna put it to use. Gonna try meat rabbits and some gardening. Eventually, I'll have saved enough money to move up north. Not sure where to yet, but we've got some years to figure that out. But gonna buy some land and start homesteading for real. Yall have been a huge influence on me ^_^

Dang it. Why did you do that to me? This weekend of all weekends. 6 1/2 years ago our daughter was diagnosed with brain cancer and we were living out of our home state at what we thought was supposed to be a farm apprenticeship that we had moved to just a couple months before (that's a whole other story). It was God that somehow made it so our daughter was diagnosed in our home state (another long story). But we essentially became homeless. My parents immediately made room in their tiny house (I still had a sibling living at home and 2 on church missions who would return while we lived there) for all 5 of us (hubby, me and 3 kids). It was crowded, but it was a home. It was a sanctuary. During the hardest time of our lives. On Wednesday, June 3rd, it will be 4 years since our little Rachel passed away in my parents' livingroom in that little house with so many family and friends around her. We now live a thousand miles away from my parents because this is where God has brought us. But we have felt that we should pray that my parents will follow and move here as well. This video got me all emotional thinking about the beautiful and profound impact that wonderful parents make. Even when their kids are grown up with kids of their own. Parents like yours and mine are the perfect grandparents to raise kids with. I'm so happy for you that you and your kids are blessed in this way. I know Austin's parents live back in Connecticut, so I imagine you miss them very much. They seem just as lovely as Kay's parents. God bless good grandparents.

Her name is Rachel. It's ok to not know what to say. I'm 4 years into this and I don't often know what to say. To other grieving parents or to those who hear my story and don't know what to say. Thanks for hearing it. Thanks for responding. Thanks for being generally amazing people who put so much good into the world. I know I shouldn't spend as much time on UA-cam as I do, but I will always have time for Homesteady because you warm my heart, teach me and help me feel more hope and light in the world. Your encouragement to homestead, but also your honesty about it, are what help me keep going but also pace myself. My husband kids have already decided we all want to meet you all someday. My 3 year old is sure we've already met and that your kids are her friends and that you all know Rachel. 😂 💗

I was tearing up, when I saw your much older, first-born, holding a chick towards the end. Because of the earlier flashback toddler, chasing chicks around for the first time. I thought when watching the toddler, wow, he's a professional chicken wrangler now and even started his own egg business. I don't know if he'll end up being a farmer when he's old enough to leave home, but he'll always have a special place for chickens in his heart. Great flashback all-round, and glad you've made PA your home.
