That Sigma 30mm was/is one of my favorite primes of all time. Yes, the 56mm had better bokeh, was sharper, and had better AF, was smaller, however, the 30mm focal length (45mm FF equiv.) was superb for my needs. The 56mm is just too tight and i'm not a (semi)tele shooter.
I'm a bit on a fence between the two. Right now I own Sony 18-105 and sigma 16mm.. I'm doing primarily street photography, which famously mostly done in 35/50 ff. However I do tend to zoom in with my 18-105 very often (love Saul Leiter kinda shots). 16 mm is a bit wide for that and I tend to use it indoors or for really upclose stuff. But now I'm not sure between these two. Do love your shots with 56mm! 30mm looks very "normal" and less cinematic I guess..

Now that I bought them myself the 16+56 is most likely the better combo of the two, the 16 is good for tight spaces and when you shoot somewhere with a good amount of space you can get some seriously professional looking photos with the 56. I believe the 30 is good if you plan to just purchase one do it all lens.
The 30mm is the oldest of the trio, so I can see it being the least sharp of the lenses. I never bought the 56mm since I already had the Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS when the 56mm came out. Also, I almost never used the 50mm, and that probably wouldn't have changed with the 56mm.
@@DanboxingPH when you add in the crop factor, the 50 = a 75mm. And the 56 = 84mm. These are fine for portrait photography, and they're both sharp, but unless you're outside, or have a lot of space, they are hard to use.

Hello, Lang. First and foremost, you are correct that the 56mm is a beast when it comes to portrait shoot. In addition to that, it is also very good with product shoots and brolls. Like I can’t yes enough. BUT I don’t think it’s a good idea to sell your 18-105 for it. I might be weird but since you ask, I personally believe that one must have at least one zoom lens in their bag. And the 18-105 is without a doubt a great zoom lens to have. People might hate me for this, but I would rather sell my 16mm to get the 56mm. That’s just my opinion.

For street photography, I love my 85mm (ua-cam.com/video/Kf0WZkeRvKM/v-deo.html).
So just between the two, I’d get the higher focal length - 56mm 😊

Hello! For model shoots only, go for the 56. But for other stuff, go for the 30. It’s more versatile :)
