As someone who loves Monkey Majik. Ao-kun and Aruran's cover of Umarvelous was a nice and pleasant surprise for me.
I really liked their version. Very catchy.
Aruran has a good ear to pick songs for covers.
It was a good vibes cover, and yeah they sang really well.

I remember Abroad in Japan did a video with the vocalist of Monkey Majik and they were eating at a dining place and Umarvelous was recently released. When they were talking about how good the food is, the vocalist decide to use "Umarvelous".

I've known about Monkey Majik thanks to learning about the Plant brothers' involvement in Kamen Rider Zero-One, which their band also made a song for, but I've never really listened to a Monkey Majik song until Bluekachino's cover of Umarvelous, and I consider it a pretty good introduction! Thank you very much for this clip of Arubro talking about the work that went into the cover, Universe! I especially enjoyed learning more about how much of a gentleman he is and how you hilariously emphasized it with Street Fighter 6 footage! 🤩🤣🫡
I didn't know they changed the lyrics. I only really recall Calli or Watame changing lyrics for covers.
It must be true that the talents are really doing a ton of stuff behind the scenes.

You already pay for copyright to do the cover since u literally copy it 100%. More than that they may need approval for the lyrics change depending on the paid agreement.
Not sure how parody songs work in Japan though, if you are wholesale using the same musical track and only changing the lyrics
He's mainly talking about rewriting the manzai comedy segment that's near the end, not the lyrics of the main song. I doubt the manzai segment has its own exclusive rights to Sandwichman that don't come with getting a license to cover the song as a whole since it's still part of the song, but it's definitely possible. Similar to but not quite the same as how Bae got the licensing needed to perform Venus, the Tackey and Tsubasa song, for her birthday live; she wanted to do the original choreography (mentioning she's still a little baffled about why Roberu and Shien already knew it so well) but THAT they weren't able to secure so they had to do their own. The choreo is its own copyright in that example, owned by a different party than the record label.
But what he's talking about mainly implies it was more about making that segment suit their images, motifs, and the collective vibe he, Ao, and Pizza Family have than it was not being able to it verbatim. Like how he's mentioning one of the jabs in the routine is how about how both members of Sandwhichman are already chubby, which doesn't quite work the same if delivered with the same phrasing when Auran's design is well built and Ao's is slender. As he mentions here, the quality of covers has gotten quite high so them wanting to put in extra effort and personal flair makes sense to do.
Those who watched the paid 5th Fes (or was it 4th fes?) will be exposed to the song because of the trio that sang it.
It was definitely a fun banger to listen to, for something obscure to the general public.
