Thanks for the review. I’m a mom of 2 under 2 with 1 on the way and I wanted a nice, reliable 3rd row suv that was affordable and safe and looked and drove nice. My husband and I bought a 2023 mazda and I love it! It’s perfect for my family
Just bought this exact model today. With the current incentives this vehicle is a steal. Paid about $36k. Amazing when you shop these against the highlander, pathfinder and pilot and all of those dealers either have no inventory or $4000-$6000 addendums for “pinstriping, free maintenance, and nitrogen”.
One of the best vehicle, for sure and first that not disappointed me after two years owning. Overall quality, road control and mountain of torque - outstanding as for Japanese mass market models!
6 months into my second one. Still makes me smile. That low end and mid-range torque makes it so easy to drive. It's no sports car but it is an excellent value proposition. I drove the CX90 straight 6 for a full day - and I did not like it as much. The CX9 drives smaller than its competition but is a no compromise 4 seater (huge luggage space in that mode) and works as a 6 seater for short trips - and only short trips.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it, they are quite torquey! These smaller 3 row SUVs are great for having nice second row seating and then large cargo capacity with the 3rd row folded down. 🙂
Excellent review because this is the CX-9 model I am interested in. Now how does this stack up against the DodgeDurango or the Volkswagen Atlas .......thank you
Thank you! That’s a great question and I don’t have experience yet with those other models. I’ll spread out to VW and Dodge by the summer though. So someday soon I’ll have an opinion for you, lol. I’ll likely have a CX-90 to review in the next few weeks! 🙂
So the Base model comes with leather seats? I’d love to have the CX90 but it’s out of my price range. Seriously considering the CX-9 though for what you get at that price.

I apologize, I hardly remember this specific vehicle and experience. But could it be possible that yours is loaded with a lot of extra options and this one was a base model touring? Also are you in the U.S. ?
For 2023, Mazda anticipates a buyer cross shopping with something like the Honda Pilot. For 2024, Mazda thinks buyers will be cross shopping with the likes of an MDX, RX350, Q7, EX90, etc. This transition Mazda is trying to pull off will be very interesting. If they couldn’t beat Toyota and Honda, what makes them think they will do better in competing in the luxury space? Mazda generally makes a nice vehicle, but I just don’t see this move translating to more aggressive sales numbers they keep throwing out there.
Great point! It certainly will be interesting to watch it unfold, and see what direction they take their products in the coming years and with the other Mazda models needing a redesign soon. 🙂 Heck if Kia/Hyundai have rebranded themselves like they have over the past few years, anything is possible, lol.
Well Toyota owns a 5% stake in the co and I'm sure they have a little input on quite a few items so in turn maybe not on a luxury level but other pieces of the puzzle

Absolutely agree! I’m glad you’re still enjoying yours! 🙂

Nice review. Thanks for emphasizing that this is a top safety pick. That was my #1 criteria when shopping for a new vehicle, and I chose a Mazda CX9
I appreciate the kind words and am glad you found the right ride! Thanks for watching. 🙂

The 90 would be sweet! But definitely a pretty penny. In my area the Touring or “base” does come with leather seats, not a bad deal! 🙂

This Cx 9 is not the Touring model. This car is missing a lot of features that my 2023 Touring model has.

So you’re glad they have 1990s gauges and not updating with the times? I’ll pass dog ugly interior.
Why even comment?
