- Hello! This is a Mincraft tutorial on how to make an infinite obsidian generator using the newly added lavaSourceConversion gamerule added in snapshot 22w44a which is a snapshot of the Minecraft version 1.19.3 and 1.20.

I would suggest a hopper * chest underneath where the obsidian is, that way it gets sucked down into a chest when your mining it.

you don't need to break obsidian blocks to make nether portals, there is an easy way to make these with a lava see.

Mine is only making cobblestone... I did the same setup
You need to enable the gamerule. Water and flowing lava makes cobblestone, water and lava sources make obsidian.

@@Bailey_Dreamfoot hey if you have flowing water and lava you can use infinite lava and water pools and have an infinite supply anyways!

I'm playing in survival without any cheats/commands... don't want to cheat.
Well then it is not possible, you have to enable cheats to modify gamerules in Minecraft, and this relies on changing a gamerule
any suggestions what to do when you already made the world but don't want cheats?

It turns into cobblestone for me
Did you enable the gamerule. It will turn into cobblestone if the lava is flowing, and obsidian if it is still. The gamerule turns the following lava into still lava (kind of like how water turns into still water)

1.20 doesn’t work only makes cobble
Make sure you follow the tutorial and use the proper gamerule, it will not make cobblestone if the lava gets converted to a source (which is enabled by the gamerule)

Make sure you are generating the obsidian correctly (Flowing water needs to meet the lava source block), and have the gamerule enabled (which allows for the creation of the source blocks)
Mine is only doing freaking cobblestone
To form obsidian you need to have water on/flowing into/next to a lava source block. Make sure you have the gamerule enabled

You need to make sure you have the game rule enabled and are playing on a new enough version of Minecraft. Also make sure you are making the obsidian correctly

it can’t not work, it isn’t using obscure game mechanics, it’s just enabling a gamerule that allows for lava source generation, then placing flowing water / waterlogged stairs next to it

If you don't want cheats and your okay losing your lava
Simply set this up like your going to use it
Break the stair
Then break the middle block
It will give you 2 blocks of obsidian

It’s not fake, all it uses is the new game rule which allows for infinite lava and therefore, infinite obsidian :)
