I taught myself how to rebuild a 4L60e in my 96 Tahoe 12 years ago. UA-cam was the main reason. I watched every video on here. I bought 3 books and read them front to back. At the end, I learn to just rebuild the unit back the way it came from GM. The transmission worked on the first try. I did have have a front seal leak. I later found out it came from not lining the pump up right. I also had a 2-3 shift flair. That was because the parts guy sold me a 4 cylinder spacer plate. After drilling out the 3rd gear supply hole. The slip was gone.
Youre like my old pops Richard. When you get good at something it gives you a jolt of energy to wrestle it and get it done. Came off the farm in Olton Texas and did water law for the farmers out here. Over 60 years a lawyer!
Always know it's going to be a good show when Richard gets past the pump and the transmission is making tinkling noises like a broken christmas ornament in a box...
Glad your back- I want to thank you for your knowledge you are sharing with us- you help me tackle my 4L80e in my 1992 Chevy truck-something I would never tackled with out your video’s-thanks again
I really really enjoy your videos an I want to thank you personally. Not a lot of your videos have comments. I watched every video on the 4l60e for my 95 Buick roadmaster wagon. 95 is a one year set up! I’m a mechanic not a tranny guy! I machined my own compresses for the spring packs. Your a master of your craft an you also helped me with a power glide I did. Thank you 🙏
I had a ‘91 gmc sierra. It had the 4L60. And after that tranny went, the very first one i came across was the right one. Guess i got lucky there. From what you’re saying, there wasn’t all that many around.
I live near LEE MASSACHUSETTS where ONYX PAPER IS LOCATED, ONYX PAPER makes the clutch paper material that is used in the application of automatic transmission clutch plates. The paper is also used in many clutch assembly that require clutch type operations
Thank you all again for another great video. Always a pleasure to watch. Glad your shoulder is doing well and you've gotten your strength back. Be well.
Just to watch one video here CAN CHANGE MY DAY ... Always Positive and Always Technical and Always Humble and Down to Earth, talking NORMAL just as if (YOU) and Richard at the bench.!!! Thanks for ALL the great videos over the years.. What is Never / NOT On This Site ......UNLIKE Some people with good skills make up for lack of experience Drinking Monster and talk like a chainsaw and exaggerate every meaningless point ..
This guy knows his stuff ask me how I know he helped me out when I was having trouble with my transmission and no one else had any clue what was wrong with it.
I really enjoy your videos, very informative , even for this old guy, on the down hill slide to 70 and still like working on my own gear boxes, differentials and engines. Keep up the good work you guys and good luck.
every time I watch one of your video's I'm amazed at how much you know about that transmission and just wanted to know how you keep it all straight, so you don't mix it up with another transmission.
So glad to see you back to doing transmissions and other things! Last I seen you and Trent had a falling out and you just had surgery! Glad to see you back in the habbit!
I've rebuilt everything on a car except an automatic transmission. Installing a B&M shift kit is as far as I've trusted myself with those. I envy people like Richard who can go through any automatic transmission without hesitation. Subscribed!
I’m glad I found your new site. I’d like to find out what you did to a 727 transmission and put a 48RE front drum in it. I would like to know how you did that. Great videos. I’ve never seen anyone knock a transmission apart so fast and be as knowledgeable as you are! I hope you read comments and will reach out to me about the drum swap. Thank you either way because you have opened my eyes about automatic transmissions. As a toolmaker for over 50 years, you make great sense!! God bless you and Theresa!
I never thought about it but the way it's spinning like he said it throws all the oil off of it if there isn't a constant supply and makes it go dry instantly.
I bought a 91 c1500 chev 350 engine for $500 a long time ago and it had this same transmission. No third or 4th gear. I remember being so proud after downloading the ASTG rebuild manual, cleaning everything up and rebuilding that puppy and having it work. still have the truck today. love all the tips and tricks from Richard's videos. his videos are a blessing to all of us. I am going to put a power switch in line to control my lockup, it likes to shift lockup at 35 at light throttle and its annoying sometimes. not sure what else to do or modify to fix that? anyone have input? cheers!
Richard, could u show us from start to finish takng it apart, showing us what's wrong, cleaning it explain what you see&needs replaced, putting it all back together, installation? I knw its alot but you can have othr members of your team do it too. Thnks again for your knwldge
perfect timing on the video just had the rear planet on my 4l60 go boom. Interested in the part number for the pressure switch! Thanks for a great video
I enjoyed the video guys, u were speaking of cores,in my home town has a junk yard and I see a lot of transmission in it last time I was in there.. I know them well... just saying..
Hi Richard & Teresa I was following yall on yalls old videos I have been looking for yall. I have a 09 GMC Sierra I was wanting the transmission rebuild by yall it lost reverse thank yall for the videos
Boy that looks like the 4l60e I pulled out of my 2005 Trailblazer. I pulled the pan and saw pieces of the rear planetary and instantly bought another core.
Hey Richard I have a 93 4l60e and I've been looking for that shift lever on that transmission since summer of 2020. Any way I could possibly buy that from you? It's a discontinued part and I'm trying to restore my 93 Chevrolet C2500 and currently overdrive is in-between OD And D when centered on park because I had to use a 700R4 shift lever to get it to shift 😂
I really appreciate you Richard, and I live in Huntersville NC, just outside Charlotte, and I am looking for a dependable transmission for my Buick 455 engine, and I would like to have an overdrive transmission for it, but I just don't know who i can trust to buy a dependable performance transmission, because the engine will be around 450 horsepower if everything goes right, and wanted to see if you could recommend someone in my area that is dependable and I can trust to know what they are doing like you do? I used to overhaul Transmissions in the late 70s and early 80s, but it has been so long that I don't trust my memory to building a performance tranny, and even though I used to modify turbo 400's and they were bullet proof for the times, but I am looking for a 200 overdrive, as long as i can get the TV cable and bracket for it to operate properly, or a 4L80E that has a stand alone computer controller and a BOP case for it to work with my engine. Can you recommend someone out here, or could you build one for me at a reasonable price that you could ship to me??
While I watchd I had (?) come up. A friend told me long time ago, while at stop light/sign, put autotrans in neutral..so it won't get bound up since brakes are holding/resistkng it back prevent forward motion..is that accurate?
Hey yall is precision transmissions open for business? Google says yall are temporarily closed. I just found the new UA-cam channel. One of the happiest days of my life was to see you back on UA-cam…..🎉 god bless y’all

Good to finally find your new channel! I used to always wonder what happened to you guys. Been about a year but it's great to be back!
Richard: 'I think we've got enough clearance in our 3-4 clutch.'
Teresa laughs from experience. 😂

needa weld you a support brace to the middle of that table so it won't bounce as much, put a screw in adjustable foot to keep it nice and firm.
Hiya buddy!!!! I missed you, and I didn't know where you'd gone! I am SO GLAD to find you again!!!
'97 Cherokee AW/4 Auto original at 340,000 miles when I sold it still running fime. Serviced every 2 years
Ms T is good, she was seeing bad parts before R, have watched a few of her vids when R was laid up, very capable. What a team.

Thank you for sharing your love of automatic transmission repair!!!
Yep, I thought there was going to be some serious carnage around that rear planetary . Good video guys . :)

Nice one! Bummer that you didnt get a lot of parts but looks like you got what you needed
that was a real blown up one! Great video as usual!
i would honestly drive across the country to have richard build and install a transmission for me
Boy that looks like the 4l60e I pulled out of my 2005 Trailblazer. I pulled the pan and saw pieces of the rear planetary and instantly bought another core.
i found him again finally!
Hello Richard, I'm curious do you work on the Ford 6r80 transmissions as well? Would love to see you teardown one of those
That planetary set must have sounded absolutely grate in the vehicle.
Hey Richard I have a 93 4l60e and I've been looking for that shift lever on that transmission since summer of 2020. Any way I could possibly buy that from you? @@michaelotoole1807and another new shop at Richards home.
@@michaelotoole1807 that's a shame especially when Richard mentioned in one of his videos years back that his business would be handed down to Trent
This is the unit that I run in my '71 F250 highboy. Yes you read my comment correct.

Hay man I was wondering since you always be doing those videos of these can you post a parts list on a 4l60e and the reassembly of the parts as well
Richard could you do another tv cable install video?
Its been awhile. Good vid
While I watchd I had (?) come up. A friend told me long time ago, while at stop light/sign, put autotrans in neutral..so it won't get bound up since brakes are holding/resistkng it back prevent forward motion..is that accurate?
How is your drag car doing these day's. Love your videos.
Hey yall is precision transmissions open for business? Google says yall are temporarily closed. I just found the new UA-cam channel. Been watching old precision transmissions videos on the other channel. Hoping for some new content so I'm glad I found this channel!! I'm glad to see you all are doing well!
No it's closed. Richard has moved his business to his home I believe.
Awesome video, ??where are you located , cost for you to redo my 2005 4l60e. Thanks
What happened to the old channel I thought you guys stopped making videos
Great job!
I need a 5.3 ls put in my 93 Silverado it has a 4.3 with a 5 speed od
You guys ever try an over head camera mount?
You know for not having a hardened shell, it still managed to twist the end of the reaction shaft nearly in half.
I used a brake switch at pedal instead of toggle switch.
when the normally red/pink transmission fluid is so dirty and burnt that looks like motor oil, you know there's gonna be some calamity.
