The corporate world is not built for introverts. No matter how "outspoken" I am in the workplace, my colleagues expect me to talk through the whole 8 hours. It's so tiring 😢 I excel better in silence.
I never spoke up at meetings. About two years ago, I gave myself a challenge to ask at least two questions and comment at least twice in every meeting I attend at work. It doesn’t matter if it’s a group of 5 or 50. It is hard but I force myself to do this and overtime it has become a little easier for me to speak up at meetings. I am currently in a role where I facilitate meetings of over an hour during which I am expected to do the most talking. I also make use of my voice recording on my phone instead a journal. This allows me to listen to how I sound, my pace, and enunciation.
I love this! Thanks for sharing, as a corporate girly who really needs to improve her confidence and communication, I’m gonna give this a try. Goodluck as well! ❤
@@AdamaLornaSN: you think it’s your voice their complimenting?😅 you’re well spoken, but you look good doing it. You’re a woman. People indirectly and respectfully compliment your face and body. ❤
Thank you very much for this, I learnt a lot! Two tips I'd like to add: 1. ELIMINATE FILLER WORDS. Fight them like your life depends on it. Too many people these days say "like" at least five times in two sentences! "Like" may not be the filler word you use, it may be “umm”, or “you know”, etc. Whatever it is, train yourself to eliminate it. 2. If you're asked a question you don't have a prepared answer for, feel free to pause to properly articulate your thoughts before speaking. This kills two birds with a stone because it also creates anticipation in the listener.
@@4nd3ll hi! Sure. I’m no professional, but I’d be glad to let you know what worked for me. Firstly, I identified the filler words I used, and became hyper aware of my use of them. This way, it was easy for me to catch myself before using them. Secondly, as the name “filler words” implies, we tend to use them as crutches when we’re talking faster than our brains are thinking, so we get to a point where we’re unsure of what to say next. That being said, use the second tip in my original comment. Before you start speaking, and when you catch yourself about to use them, pause to properly gather and articulate your thoughts, then speak. Thirdly, (building on the foundation of my second point), speak slower. This is another way to gain time to gather your thoughts. It also makes you sound relaxed and confident, which again is killing two birds with a stone. Hope this helps!
Thanks for this. I struggle with public speaking and story telling. I think it's because I think of so many things at the same time and also very conscious of myself. But I'm actively working on this. Going back to reading 📚. I even started a UA-cam Channel😊 to help improve my confidence and fluency. Cross your fingers for me.
The ability to public speak is something designated purposely for the reason that we can better inform, persuade, entertain, and the like. Additionally, it's essential for wielding connection with others and articulating your voice to the world.
Im a nursing student who needs to learn to speak with conviction. I am a receptionist who speaks very friendly welcoming and people pleasing. I need to learn better to be confident and firm while still being kind and caring.
I have adhd & I get lost in my thoughts. Sometimes when someone is speaking to me, I zone out or start wondering what they think about me or what I’m saying. It’s annoying & weird.
I have never heard anyone use Jazz music in the background of their video. I am so intrigued!! Also, your tips were amazing and didn’t feel complicated ❤❤ thank you!!
You are definitely worthy to speak on public speaking. I enjoyed this so much and learned a lot. I need to learn to pace myself better. I could be quite fast when speaking.
I just came across your video now and I am so inspired, i actually watched it till the very end. Actually, my teeth make me shy away from public speaking and I don't know if I can ever correct that. Speaking is actually one of the things I enjoy. Anyways, you've got a new subscriber 🤍
Just a few hours before this video came out on my recommended section. I had written down that I wanted to learn how to speak. Thank you for this video very enlightening and easily explained video!
In this HIGH digital age where everything we do is online or on an app and very little is in person, it’ is more critical than ever to be able to present ourselves with our voice as well as our looks. I see so many UA-cam videos where the person cannot pronounce words, misuses words to mean something they don’t mean or does not enunciate clearly and it ruins the video for me. I generally turn it off. There’s so much focus on looks currently but if people open their mouth and it’s not as well-pleasing to the ear as their look is meant to be to the eye, I don’t stay. Speaking well is so important, on every level. I’d like to see us spend more time, effort and attention on it. 🌱
I struggle to speak to other people in public, even my peers. Sometimes I think I might have communication apprehension, but I found this video quite helpful. Thank you ❤.
This is your second video that I watch and I remember when I watched the first I said to myself “I wish talked like her” (english is not my first language). Loved this video 💖
Ooooo Gurl I needed thissss 😭I really want to know how to speak super clearly. I stumble over my words a lot and I want to sound believable when speaking😅
I’ve seen many videos on improving conversation skills and yours bring much different and in my opinion more useful points. Also it is true that your voice is magnificent so it is a pure pleasure to listen to you :)
Thank you so much! I’m not looking to or comfortable doing hair videos atm but I do appreciate it. I’ve mostly just learned from the wealth of hair videos already on youtube though! 🤍
I really love everything about this video ❤i qm learning and trying so hard to improve on how i speak because i am a business student,,, thank you for this 🙏
This was such a helpful video. I think I’ve gotten stuck in the “how to speak” books instead of actually analysing speeches I come across. I love your technique and will apply that to the speeches I found engaging and captivating. Keep up the good work🫶🏿
Analyzing speeches for Ted Talks helped me out a lot! I do presentations for my job all the time and everyone says how much of a natural I am, engaging, and knowledgeable but 10 years ago I would have never been in this place. The best thing is, I am still so excited about the growth I can make. Good luck and God bless.
That you so much I’ve struggled with speaking to others I tend to listen to myself and start to subconsciously say things like “we hi sound like Omgosh get to it, are you rambling?” And they I start to stutter. When I’m with some I’m comfortable with I’m good at articulating my ideas
We definitely all have our challenges when it comes to public speaking. Hopefully implementing some of these tips will help you feel more comfortable when in these situations 😊
I am so insecure about my voice, it is so quiet, i talk a lot but ppl have difficulty hearing me in loud settings. I have no issue speaking in silence. Its so hard to project in loud rooms

Just came across this video and really enjoyed listening. Communication is one of the things I am hoping to build on. Adama, please provide a potential reading list of some of the books that you have read in the past and have found enjoyable or even would suggest as a good read?

It’s exciting when you realize you’re replacing your filler words with ‘silence’ which is a great pause and makes the speech a wonderful one.
