    I really dig the title of this track because it's a mashup of the words 'idolatry', which means the worship of false idols, and 'latrine', which means toilet

    So many ghost fans seem to gloss over Infest. I’m happy to see you just fall in love which each track. Ritual was the song that I tofu ed me to ghost, and square hammer was the song that made me realize I might need to look into them, but this album and the EP from the same year is what blew me away and I knew it was going to be my favorite band of all time.

      It’s on par with anything else in the catalog IMO. The opening: Infest, Per Aspera hooks me in right away.

    It's great to follow your Ghost-journey! I was a late fan myself, only for about 1,5 years. Now I'm hooked for life and the only other band that managed to do that with me was Kiss.

    They didn’t pan the solo down the centre because it’s meant to be reminiscent of old 60s ‘fake stereo’.

    Oh, and your analogy with games was actually the most accurate one that I've ever seen. Ghost is exactly that. A "remaster" of good old Rock. Simple as that.

    I had the privilege of being at the live debut of Idolatrine, and it was such a blast! I really love this song and its message, and I feel it's quite underrated. I understand the frustration about the sound engineering - it's definitely not just this song, though. Part of the solo in Rats is panned left-only, as well as Ritual and Stand By Him. There are probably others, but those are the ones I think of immediately. I tend to listen with only one earbud so I can hear my surroundings better, and it annoys me to no end to miss part of the song because of it. I can't wait for the next Ghost reaction! 🤘

    Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet (probably) but after you finish Infesstisumam and before you start Meliora, I'd LOVE to see you react to the Papaganda videos! They're just some insight into the nature of Papa Emeritus II but a lot of fun. You could easily do both in a single video.

    TF has said in some interview hes not satisfied with how this album got mixed (cant remember how it ended up that way, but some studio meddling i think). Also maybe watch The Omen one day, gives one an extra understanding in regards to the lyrics. Ever since Infestissumam, Zbigniew M. Bielak has done all the cover arts for the albums, as well as an individual piece of art for each song, a tradition which has continued until the present day (cant remember if he did the cover for 7 inches of Satanic panic tho). They are up for interpretation, but both covers and individual works are always done in collaboration with Tobias Forge and represent his vision, even if that vision sometimes is just "make something that looks cool" 😄
    Infestissumams cover is based on a movie poster, and some song artworks are based on classical art pieces, TF loves pop culture

      Subvision is unmasked ghost man raw ghost, I absolutely fell in love with that ep and album from them. Makes a very round progression story. Subvision->Opus and so on. Beautifully written great songs and a guy developing as a musician.

    There are also a couple of songs Tobias has done with other bands as either Mary Goore (his Repugnant persona) or as Cardinal Copia. And they're pretty interesting too. But I'll throw them at you down the line.

    In my Ghost journey, this was the last album I checked out, since there are some fans that rated it low compared to the debut, and Meliora (I got into them for the 4th album - Prequelle). But when I listened to Infestissumam, I was amazed at how strong and cohesive it was, and was such a huge jump from the debut in terms of how wide-screen it is.

  • @karm9180
    @karm9180 Рік тому +3

    The title is a play on words, by combining Idol or idolatry with latrine ;)

  • @karm9180
    @karm9180 Рік тому +6

    The perfect album for me would be Meliora, closely followed by Prequelle. As a musician myself with a soft spot for the melodic side of the darkness :) , nothing struck me with such perfect balance of technicality and melodicity like Meliora did, where Prequelle album is surrounded in soft, melodic, medieval misery and sorrow. Just imagine being able to understand and relate instantly with all of the sound and visual aesthetic, the albums artwork, the bar and steam organs, all those orthodox/catholic chants, the latin words and phrases, all being part of my unsettled european history, cultural heritage and daily life...oh man, those two albums, for me at least, were instantly one giant rollercoaster of emotions!

    if youre intrested in the lore then i highly recommend getting into it after reacting to all the Ghost songs. the lore really is a big part of the band. the chapters on Ghosts offical channel gives an insight to it, though it only documents the lore from only started when cardinal copia joined the clergy(4th album). but i do highly recommend getting into the lore of the band :)

    I mentioned a while ago that Ghost dabbles in modern Satanism, which is really just intense atheism with a side of political messaging regarding separation of church & state. I think this is the first song to real touch on that modern Satanism.
    Now as far as I know, Tobias Forge does believe in God to some extent. But he comes with questions, and this song starts to scratch the surface, where I feel most everything else on the first two albums is like, "Hey, isn't it kinda funny that we're dressed like this talking about how the devil is awesome?" Not ever really going beyond the shock value. That's not to diss the music, of course, as these two albums dominate in that category.
    So it's possible I'm just reading into this song on my own, but the play on words here is Idol + Latrine (like the toilet.) So to me, the general theme of this song is poking fun at people who just kind of blindly follow along the religion without putting much thought into it, perhaps even having crosses and other Christian memorabilia in the bathroom (oh so holy, haha.)

    Idolatrine
    If you are refering to the song by the band Ghost, it is a play on words, a combination of Idolatry = to worship an idol or God and the word Latrine = fecies The words are put together to show distaste of people blindly following leaders and or religions
    Idolatrine for the inbecilles

    1. Kerberos IS a 3-headed dog.
    2. This song is pronounced Eye-DOL-a-TRINE. It’s a play on ‘Idolatry’ and ‘Latrine’.
    3. The guitar sound you like is called a right-hand mute.
    4. This song reminds me of a mix of the Beatles and Nirvana.

    9:24 I never gave too much thought, but come to think about it, I guess the decision to pan the solos hard right, might come from the fact that they wanted a sound closer to those times when mixing consoles only had a switch for panorama. It was either hard left or hard right. If you take a listen to the bands from The Beatles era, you'll hear clearly that only the vocals were in the center. The rest of the instruments, even the drum set, were entirely panned either left or right.. that is my interpretation of their decision anyway

    You definitely should do Repugnant. Maybe when you're done with the Ghost journey.
    Bests songs to react to would be 'Draped in Cerecloth', 'Spawn of Pure Malevolence' and 'Premature Burial'. There's even a good live video for the first one, where you can see a young Tobias performing live unmasked and playing guitar: ua-cam.com/video/kldGdQbSzoE/v-deo.html
    Other 2 are better to be done from the album versions.
    And as a heads up: Tobias was never officially in MCC. It's a band of Martin Persner, former guitarist of Ghost. His voice is VERY similar to Tobias, so people usually make that mistake. Tobias only played bass for them in a few songs live.
    Tobias's other project is called "Subvision", which is also simply fucking GREAT! It has more of a "Indie Brit Pop" vibe to it, but like everything Tobias is involved in, it's very very well done and hugely superior to any of the bands of this style that made worldwide success at the time. Extremely underrated.

    Legion, that's a great movie! This tune would work so well in a horror movie... Don't know if I suggested Ensiferum "Rum, women, victory" before, but you should give it a go. I would love to hear your thoughts on that. Great reaction, thanx! 🤘
