    Leung Ting's books on the bare-handed and Wooden dummy forms are very useful as well. Aside from teaching the form, he also demonstrates the applications and points out common mistakes and corrections on body postures and applications.

    This is when Kung-Fu went underground and Wing Chun started as a system of its own no longer mixed with the Five Animals Forms. Master Chan Wah Shun was Master Yips first Si-Fu then Master Ng Chung So, then Master Leung Bik. If you wont to ask Master Yip Chun or Master Leung Ting and you will get the same story.

    Wing Chun or Wing Tsun or Ving Tsun has religious practices since the creater was a buddist mistress called Ng Mui. The Siu-Nim-Tau form is also called the Saam-Pai-Fut, meaning (Praying thrice to the buddha) Thrice means three times, since you have your hand in wu sau position, which is buddah's palm and you bring it back, then change it into fook sau, push it out with the elbow, then heun sau back into wu sau which is buddah's palm and you do this three times.

    the wing chun system (as it is today) has been adapted, modified and simplified - alot of this system's modern names for the technique were from Yip Man himself - when wing chun was at is infancy around the supposed era of Ng Mui (Manchu Period) - what was being taught to practitioners on board the Red Junk Opera would've been different to the stream-lined, modernised version we have now.

    wing chun/tsun etc. doesn't matter on the name - there's no standard romanization for cantonese, so the translations are all slightly different - and there's no hard evidence of Ng Mui - rather, more of a fable passed orally - the philosophy roots of the wing chun system are built up through siu nim tao (the little idea form) as all the movements have practical combat application - the wing chun system is a large tool box and the forms are there primarily to help you structure and sharpen them

    There is no such thing as a simple form! Although WC might not seem as taxing as other styles...their simple soft moves are actually very difficult to learn properly. You cant learn true kung fu through videos. Someone needs to show and break down EACH move to you. For example a simple punch in the begining HAS to be angled correctly, which is different from most punches. Another example is the turning of the hand to grab someone. They're not easy.

    I started learning Wing Chun in 1974 it came from the Siu Lam Monastery that only allowed men in China as in most Eastern countries women were not allowed to learn any warrior arts. In Japan the Samurai wives learned to fight with only select weapons. In China a women could be put to death for learning a martial art. At Siu Lam there was a hall of dummies or dummy ally of different styles when the Monastery was attacked the Dummy Master ran with the dummy we now use.

      "I started learning Wing Chun in 1974 it came from the Siu Lam Monastery that only allowed men in China as in most Eastern countries women were not allowed to learn any warrior arts."
      Western Nations were very anti-Women and equal rights until very recently(Last hundred years or so).
      Also who said woman in Eastern nations are not allowed to learn warrior arts? Way to blanket
      a whole group of different peoples, countries and cultures in the East. And last I checked it was the east
      that allowed women warriors and had the most records of Woman rulers and leaders compared to the West.
      And Shaolin doe allow women, they are held separately from the mens quarters like in the Catholic Church or in Islamist mosques, for obvious reasons. Are you a troll or just really ignorant?

      I think you are thinking more to the lines of Kali , Escrima, Filipino martial arts. There movements are exactly the same for all weapons; escrima sticks, knives, machete etc, even there empty hand movements are similar/ and that's a good thing; easy to pick up any weapon thats handy (a piece of wood etc..) and use it. They also start training weapons FIRST then when more advanced move on to empty hand, check it out/good stuff. -Cheers

    I'm surprised to learn how simple WC is, there's only 3 forms! That's not necessarily a bad thing though as it makes it far easier to learn (though not necessarily to master). Do the 3 forms contain the entirety of WC's movements & theories, or is there more?

    • @kostadingoranov5319
      @kostadingoranov5319 5 років тому +4

      3 unarmed forms, third is not necessary to be learn, it is for very difficult situations (with broken arm or very injured). There are other 3 forms - with knifes, wooden dummy and wooden pole. They are much necessary then third form

    • @adringtm
      @adringtm 2 роки тому +1

      3rd form is in most cases an extra and it isn't really necessary to learn. All the principles of WC are learned throughout the first 2 forms, then there are lots of other exercises to learn what to do in each situation, for instance if you can only fight with 1 arm etc. As Kostadin said, these form are unarmed forms, without any weapon or tool.

    • @namayake
      @namayake 2 роки тому

      @@adringtm but isn't the third form where you learn elbow strikes? watching the demonstration, it also seems to include boxing style hooks, though admittedly I've never seen a WC practitioner use a hook before--not a skilled one anyway, who wasn't resorting to other arts while sparring.

    • @adringtm
      @adringtm 2 роки тому

      @@namayake I've been practicing WC for almost 9 years now and I've been resorting more to Bong Sao which is a movement you learn in the first form. Elbow strikes can be useful yes but only in close distance and WC is more about keeping distance between you and the opponent since its more of a defensive style. Again, as you said, elbow strikes can be REALLY powerful and deadly if landed in the right spot, though you rarely find yourself in those situations and often times there are better techniques to use.

    • @adringtm
      @adringtm 2 роки тому

      @@namayake And before you make any assumptions, WC was always meant to change, Ip Man always said this. WC was created to change and improve over the years. To this day I have yet to find a video where someone uses the rudimental form of WC, which is when the martial art was a its first stages. This is why nowadays there are so many different styles and people call it in different ways, some use kicks more, some use elbows more, some resort to getting the opponent to the ground as fast as possible and so on. WG will keep evolving throughout the years and small adjustments will be made. There are already lots of small variations of all 3 forms and exercises so I wouldn't be surprised If in 10 years we will see a completely new form.
