"Different consistencies of paint"? A map is a "modernist idea"? Ok. John, to me, is almost always about what you bring to a reading of any object, not the object itself. The subject, though, is always you.
As a museum docent, it's always been difficult for me to reconcile Renaissance or Baroque art with, much of modern art. I do recognize the genius of certain artists, such as Picasso and Dali, largely because I have seen their realistic works along with their surrealist pieces. Despite years of analyzing both styles, my initial premise stands: if I cannot come close to copying an old master's painting, I respect that most. I can copy a Pollox but, not a da Vinci or Titian.
There was no "flinging paint at that canvas..."
Very informative and presented in an entertaining way. Thanks a lot for sharing!
I had no idea it was that big.
Not a very insightful comment, but I felt I had to say it.
My school has a print of this hanging in the student center! :)
