    I love the clips channel content as it helps me catch up if I miss any episodes. But, Adam I have a suggestion. I heard from an editor when posting clips from long format videos, you should always take them from videos which are at least 2 weeks old as it helps the algorithm. Like, I already watched the podcast of this week, so I don't necessarily need to watch this (but still gonna). But, if it's a clip about something a little older, then I might wanna rewatch it through here. Like, example, the Polestar conversation. Just a thought. I don't know if it makes sense. Maybe, I am just dumb.

    To be honest the naming *kinda* makes sense because bonfire is red and breeze is blue, still would make more sense the other way around for winter and summer though, and swapping the colors for clicky and linear is just criminal. So many people are probably gonna buy the wrong one because of that.

Like, a lot of them have zero issues with shelling out hundreds of dollars for a keyboard and waiting months for it to be produced in a small batch, as long as it's EXACLTY the way they like it. This thing, it's not up to standards.

      This thing also costs way more than the keyboard it is based on, which is highly considered in the mech kb community. It's basically up there with the ZoomTKL, QK65, and Bakeneko65, for the entry level space.
      Keychron's Q series essentially represent all those special group buy keyboards that may cost around $300~400, except mass produced to a point that they can heavily drop the price. That's the cool thing about mechanical keyboards: the price is just a number, it's not indicative of anything.

    Coming from custom keyboards, switch colors doesn't make sense anymore (thanks to cherry Mx patent expiry), we rely on switch names to differentiate them, even on a same type actuation profile, feel and sound of the switch can differ quite a bit.
    For the keycaps, they are using standard cherry Mx stems, so you can swap the keycaps easily, i would assume the "marble-mallow" keycaps are made out of some kind of ABS since this plastic provides deeper sounding keys.

    Andrew is articulate and genuinely enthusiastic, which is great! But it's exceptionally apparent they're not at all past the "my first 'real' mechanical keyboard" stage. If they were, they'd _absolutely_ not get flustered over the color of keycaps and switches, hahaha. Combined with what seems like disinterest from Marques, this video only proved to introduce this product to MILLIONS of people with largely negative bias based on the most unimportant aspect of higher end keyboards - which is, like, not good and actually irresponsible journalism, maybe? You have to think: you casually put down superficial aspects, people watch it, adopting that casual take as their genuine opinion that they repeat to others in conversation, and this negative attitude is spread on something by people that have little or zero knowledge or experience of; and that shapes the choices people make, often to ensure failure of something that's otherwise a good product undeserving of the ridicule it receives. All because of the need to REACT as quick as possible instead of factual reporting. Channels like this seem to have no clue about the sheer power they hold in making or breaking something, and I seriously believe it's negatively contributed to the large-scale death of experimentation in unique designs and features in tech over the last decade. Why put effort in something fun when popular reviewer scoffs at it, immediately convincing people not to try it?
    But seriously, what's with that knob? Am I using a keyboard or the bathroom sink? If I crank it, will I get hot water or cold? lololol

    As someone who's into custom keyboards, the Cherry colour standard is pointless for anything that isn't Cherry or the most basic Kailh and Gateron switches. As for not being able to pick switches and keycaps however you want is very dumb. They've taken the custom out of custom keyboards in that sense. Everything else seems to be up to Keychrons standard these days. South-facing switches, seamless wireless switching, USB-C. Something I noticed is that this is the first Keychron board to come stock with a Polycarbonate plate, contain sound absorbing foam(very necessary for their older boards if you want a good sound), and it's also the first all metal board like the Q series from them that comes in wireless.
    Only real downside to the build is that it's US only layout, so anyone using ISO which is most of Europe couldn't use the board even by changing keycaps. Though I think it's not available here anyway.

    I'll copy what I wrote on the full podcast:
    Andrew going on about OnePlus' switches making no sense is quite hilarious to me. In the world of mechanical keyboards, there are so many differently coloured switches that would make no sense if paired next to Cherry such as Kailh's entire selection of switches. You have the mainstays such as Red, Blue, Brown, Yellow, and Black. But everything else is completely shaken up.
    Then you have some more specific switches such as the Gateron Cap, Gateron CJ (which imo are the best linears one can get and use right now for a relatively cheap price), every of ZealPC's switches, Kailh's Box series, Gazzew's switches (for instance the purple Boba Lt which are linears, and rather okay for the steep price), TTC, Jwick, and Akko stuff (aboslute GOATs right now, doing god's work for the super budget scene especially with their new POM lineup).
    With every mainstream manufacturers (Keychron, Logitech, Razer, Asus (papa bless the Azeroth), HyperX, etc) commissioning their own custom spec switches with varying colours, you probably should've stopped looking at the colour of a switch about a couple of years ago. Nowadays you have purple tactiles that can also be linear, you have clicky whites that also can be tactiles, or blues than can be absolutely everything (Logitech having tactiles & linears that are blue, with Gateron making blue linears).

    • @nickthaskater

      @@nickthaskater The point is that there are zero established standards throughout the entire history of mechanical keyboards. Cherry didn't establish anything either with their sub-par switches, only alternatives decided to play copycats.

If someone says "reds" they're more often than not talking about linears. These are accepted standards in the keyboard vernacular. To flip the script on this when you're literally only offering two options is confusing, is the point.

    • @impointr
      @impointr Рік тому

      @@nickthaskater Yet again, that's disregarding the history of mechanical keyboards, past and present.
      For instance, Logitech are using blue (Kailh manufactured) for all three types right now. Razer used green (Greetech manufactured) and purple (A4Tech manufactured) for clickies. HyperX are using teal for tactiles. SteelSeries' hall effect linear switches use a clear stem.
      In parallel, ALPS SKCL Green were linears, ZealPC are using Purple as tactile switches, teal stems can be literally anything depending on the manufacturer, and Cherry are making tactile switches with a clear stem including their new "Ergo Clear" switch.
      Colours in switches never made sense, enthusiast or not. There never was a convention on it and it's probably about time that people learn to look past those, not like they should've started to a couple of years ago anyway.

    Totally agree with Marques and Andrew on this keyboard. Interesting design, but too limited and quirky on the knob, switch and keycap options for my money. But I have a request for Marques and the team. Could you please talk about why-despite the almost infinite variation and options in the mechanical keyboard world-spotting a dodo bird is easier than finding low-profile mechanical keyboards with an ergonomic layout (split or Alice).
    Imagine a slimmer Keychron Q10 with low-profile switches and keycaps or a split(able) NuPhy Air 75! It would be aimed mostly at the non-gaming world I think, but look at how many millions are already accustomed to super low-profile keyboards on laptops, MacBooks, and iPad/tablet keyboard cases-not to mention the Apple Magic Keyboard. I've written to Apple, Keychron and NuPhy, but so far feeling like a voice in the wilderness...

    • @TheMrleeyang

      split and alice are the smallest minority. Most wont make any money catering to this group of people. Just because people make noise does not equal to real business sense why more manufacturers should make them.

    • @MikeG1111_
      @MikeG1111_ Рік тому

      @@TheMrleeyang The fact that businesses need to make a profit and ergonomic mechanicals are a tiny selection of available designs is the obvious part. Fortunately, visionary designers and innovative businesses like Keychron see beyond this simplistic view of how the market looks today. Keyboards like Keychron Q10 and Q8 and Alice layout in general are still relatively new. They don't even appear in big store websites like Amazon or Best Buy yet (last time I checked).
      Even with availability only direct from the manufacturer, it would be interesting to know how well these models are selling so far. We can see countless examples of low-volume variations being manufactured and sold in the mechanical keyboard world. How will anyone ever know how well a low-profile Alice or split will sell if it's not even available or visible to the broader market?
      Notice that big companies like Microsoft and Logitech have manufactured split ergonomic designs for many years now. They wouldn't continue unless it made business sense.
      Let's just say what looks like a laughable, impractical, daydream or "noise" to one person, can be seen as untapped potential to another.

    Guys do your research before making these videos, the brand is OnePlus (duhh) featuring is a segment on their community forums where OnePlus features products that are made with the help of their community and lastly Keyboard 81 Pro is the actual name of the product.... Please Google stuff or do a little research before just putting stuff out randomly... Also i don't get it, whats wrong with the design?! The keyboard looks and I'm sure will function great too...

    It's always fun to see when normal people who kinda know something about mechanical keyboards are stepping into enthusiast ground, so this confusion about naming of the switches made me smirk.
    🤓🤓🤓So basically there is no colour/type scheme if you'll look into deeper into hobby:🤓🤓🤓
    - EG Moyu Blacks - should be linear? Nah, these are one of the best heavy tactiles;
    - TTC Pale Blues are not clicky - infact, these are silent tactiles;
    - Akko Matcha Green could be clicky, but these are nice bang for the buck linears.
    Bonus, these are some interesting names of the mechanical switches: Tecsee Ice Milk, Tecsee Carrot, Equalz Tangerine, Durock Sunflower, Durock Shrimp, Wuque Onion, SP-Star Magic Girl and my favourite Gateron Baby Kangaroo.

    I think it’s more ‘weird’ to those who aren’t into the Keyboard as a hobby. Custom keyboards, switches, keycaps, and even desk mats all have a myriad of colors and names. From things like Banana Split linear switches to a keyboard named Mammoth75.
    It’s kinda weird that they say most switches follow the blue/clicky - red/linear path.
    I’m glad there’s lots of people being able to make sense out of the aspects that confuses these two.
    I do understand they don’t like the better customizability for this board, so that’s a good point.

      But, wow, let's make fun of everything that they don't even use or understand. Poor, sad, boring content. No reference to the IBM Model M, most people don't use the caps anyway, going with custom ones.
      Hopefully OnePlus is just testing waters and will sell barebones right after.

    I'm guessing this might appeal to the hypebeast croud who base thier tech purchases based on brand alone, but the layperson isn't going to buy this and the custom mech community isn't going to be interesting in this.
    It's a Q1 with what will probably end up being inferior switches, slightly different 'okay' quality caps and a bunch of branding. And it'll be more expensive.

      Not a hot take really. Many in the established custom keeb community feel the same about this keyboard. It's yet another 75% keyboard with a knob on the top right. There's no "re-writing the rules" as OnePlus puts it lol... it's a 3-year-old design. They're only just jumping in now since the custom keeb interest exploded during covid. Too little too late imo. The hobby has slowed down considerably after high quality "entry-level" and highly accessible options are now available and people are spending less now during this recession.

    A bonfire is warm (even in winter!), so red, a breeze is cool (even in summer!), so blue. I agree most of this is quirky nonsense, but the colors do make sense given the full name. if you just consider the first half it doesn't, but that seems like a frankly stupid thing to criticise.
