I'm obsessed with the piping technique of the "vintage style cakes" as the internet is calling them. But I don't see the art in smoothing buttercream, drizzling some kind of sauce on top, adding dollops of buttercream and tipping with a bunch of food items. 🤔 to me this takes much more talent than the sleek modern cake looks. I'm always more impresses by this
I think the frosting they use is a lot lighter as well, it almost has the consistency of whipped cream.
it comes down to personal preference and a lot of modern cakes take a lot of effort to smooth
Getting the color combinations right for the "Lambeth overpiping" is a very important talent. It's not a skill, because you either have the eye, like this cake artist, or you don't. These are beautiful combinations. The modern cakes with the fondant-smooth buttercream are a very difficult acquired skill, but the candies or food topping a drip cake don't impress me, either.
That also takes talent and skill. It's never as easy as people think it is.
I tend to agree, but as someone who's learning on my own (largely through youtube), man, it is NOT as easy as they make it look!
My late grandmother used to paint porcelain such as roses. I think thats why Ive been watching these cake decorating videos. Amazing artistry!
