This is so spot on to my "problem" with connection my iphone XS ! Great job! Suggestions: contrast is a bit dark and switching between screens was hard to gasp - due to your thumb-speed ;-)
The only thing, though, is that iOS doesn't allow bluetooth trigger seamlessly in the background, it will show the notification every time it triggers.
Very nice trick - thank you! I would just add, for people who connect their Tesla to their home wifi, important to enable "Remain connected in Drive" in relation to their home wifi - otherwise the car (connected to the home wifi) seems to turn off the wifi when D or R is engaged and therefore the car won't automatically connect to iPhone hotspot (whereas if "Remain connected in Drive" is activated in relation to home wifi, in my experience the Tesla will as some point automaticlaly switch from home wifi to iPhone hotspot). Thanks
That is a great point. I was recently renting a Tesla where it didn't have premium connection and I noticed the issue. Thank you! I'll update the description to include this.
This is a nice piece of advice. Unfortunately the latest iOS 17 does not have the option of “turning hotspot on” in automation. It only has the option to set a new password for hotspot. Too bad! If anyone knows a trick for iOS 17, I would love to hear it.
It still does. But it’s confusing… it took me a couple tries to figure out. You need to go and click the grey plus button to add a new action under the settings inside the automation and then it shows the turn hotspot on as an action. For some reason you can’t find it in the first screen. I found the UI really confusing but it works now 😊
Create the shortcut for hotspot and when creating an automation I have that set to run when connected to the Bluetooth since that's automatic, and I don't want to use driving focus
You're right, I think Apple added the "Run Immediately" without having to confirm for Bluetooth automation so now there should be no need to use driving focus. It wasn't the case when the video was made.
would you be able to do a separate video - start to finish for setting up the iPhone as you described - I think it's great but I'm struggling to set it up properly.
@@MrExitStrategy I was out of town myself - so thank you for the reply - I'm hoping you could post or help me out with a step by step to set up my iPhone on iOS 16 with a focus and automation to auto connect to my model 3 when I get in so I don't have to manually connect my hotspot to my car. Setup/Configure Driving Focus : 1) go to Settings -> Focus -> Driving 2) In the People section, I choose Silence Notifications From on the top and don't add people on the list, this will allow all calls/texts/notifications to come through like normal 3) Make sure Auto-Reply is off (set to No One) if you don't want the auto-reply 4) in the Turn On Automatically -> select "When Connected to Car Bluetooth" in the Activate section (or if you use CarPlay, switch "Activate with CarPlay" on Once you have that Driving Focus setup, we need configure Shortcuts 1) Go to Shortcuts app 2) Select "Automation" tab on the bottom 3) Click on the "+" sign on the top right 4) Click on Create Personal Automation 5) Select "Driving" under Focus section 6) Select "When Turning On" 7) Click Next 8) Click on "Add Action" 9) Type in Hotspot and "Set Personal Hotspot" will appear under Scripting, select that. 10) It will now says Action is "Turn Personal Hotspot On" click Next 11) Turn off "Ask before running" 12) Done At this point it should automatically activate the hotspot. Make sure your car Wifi is on and is able to connect to the hotspot

Thanks for sharing your knowledge to help people. I sincerely appreciate it. Some feedback for improvement. Mention the required prerequisites at the beginning, e.g. IOS 16. Like many others, I struggled to find why personal hotspot was not an available action. My IPhone was , and still is, on IOS 15.75 and IOS 16 is not yet available for being upgraded to as of 05/15/2023. The step by step instructions, that you added in the comments, was the most useful and effective information. Following fast switching screens in challenging light condition can be difficult sometimes.
Thank you for the feedbacks, I appreciate it. iOS 16 was released on September 12, 2022, I'm not sure why it's not showing as available on your device. Which iPhone do you have?
Hi @mrexitstrategy, Thanks for this suggestion, it’s a great one. One qq for you - the iPhone shortcuts doesn’t always enable my personal hotspot so I’d still have to go in manually to toggle it on. My phone does go into Driving Mode however. It’s hit or miss for me. Do you know if there’s an easy troubleshoot for this? Thanks again
Hmm. I'm not sure why it wouldn't activate the hotspot IF the automation is enabled and it goes into Driving Focus Mode. Sorry, I'm not able to help you there as it has been reliable for me.
You can do it directly as well. Make a shortcut that turns on the hotspot when you connect via BT to your specific car. Otherwise it will do it when you have a different car as well ;)
When I try that, iOS shows a notification every time the bluetooth trigger runs. Doing through shortcut allows it to runs silently in the background. Does your setup show the notification?
On model 3 2023 it does not build route based on traffic with expired premium. You can easily see it if you built the route on your iPhone Tesla app and then send it to the car. The car will show different route. It is longer. And it won’t match with the fast route on google maps app on the phone.
Is there a way you can unlock the phone while in driving mode without turning the driving focus off? When I try to unlock my phone, it asks me to press "I am not driving" and when I do that, it will turn off the whole focus/ hotspot setup. ..
You're right, I now just skip the whole focus thing and set the automation to turn on hotspot when connected to car's bluetooth but I have to press "run" every time I get into the car instead.

Unfortunately over the past week or 2 I no longer get the Spotify streaming with the WiFi hotspot 😔 I am forced to pay for premium if I want it or get a Spotify login. Shame! I still get carioke and video streaming but no music streaming 🤨 have they changed the standard connectivity?
@@MrExitStrategy if you have a Spotify account it will be fine. Turns out it's not a problem for me because I'm using my UA-cam music account through my phone connected to Bluetooth. I forgot I had it 😂
