Hey, remember these games from 10 YEARS AGO?! How time flies.
Anyway, tomorrow's video is gonna be a special one! Until then, be sure to hit that "like" button and leave any comment down below to appease the almighty algorithm!
I have been able to get them again only last year
I’m so proud of Steve getting an upgrade to Cyber Leader. Too bad he has stage fright on the first day. He should’ve taken acting classes from David Banks. Every Cyber Leader needs at least 1 “Excellent” in their script. Hopefully he can become the Cyber Leader his people need.
You have to give credit to Cyber Steve, he's been through a lot
City of the Daleks was my favourite of these games and further make me wish the BBC kept their original plans for the paradigm Daleks.
Course the Eternity Clock Paradigm Emperor looks better than City of the Daleks Emperor. At least it has a head of a Paradigm Dalek, and isn’t just a recolored Time War Emperor.
Yeah I liked how it showed the hierarchy of the dalek empire, it worked quite well
9:04 Yay, Cyber Steve got a promotion.
He deserved it!
LOL at the cyber leader saying "I've got butterflies in my tummy "
Before I was annoyed when Big Finish recast Eleven. Now, now I understand.
Honestly, the fact that Blood of the Cybermen depicts the Cybermen with more dignity and menace than most of their appearances in the revived series, says something... When was the last time the Cybermen were an INDEPENDANT threat, and not just canon fodder/ minions for a bigger bad.... John Lumic, the Daleks, Mercy Hartigan, Missy, The Master, The Master (again). last one I can think of was Nightmare in silver, and that was seven years ago. Only other one in the revived series as a whole I can think of, is closing time :/
The action montage of series 5 was GOLD you marvellous man
CyberSteave and Jeff are actually so good
To be fair, we do have a 'The Thing'-like Doctor Who episode which takes place on an Artic base. Namely the first two episodes of 'The Seeds of Doom'.
I used to play these religiously. Hell, these even helped distract me from my heavy anxiety. Plus, I remember watching your old reviews of these - I adored them.
God I remember those early days
It's a real shame they are no longer easily accessible. BBC took down a lot of the DW games. Even Cyber Assault, which I loved.
@@MrThorfan64 I still have mine on steam. Purchased them before they got taken down.
I miss the adventure games, I must’ve completed each one at least 3 times. So much fun
Ah, James Corden when he was not the most annoying actor ever
And the story is written by... oh. Yeh.
9:13 the return of the Great Jeff
Damn the nostalgia hit me pretty hard. I was like 10 years old when I played this game.
Given the pressure the adventure games were under, it's impressive that they came out like they did. A really pity we have not gotten more who games to be honest. The big problem Sumo had was that they were making their games to fit in with the first season of Matt Smith. So they hadn't seen him onscreen at all the director had no baseline for performance and probably lacked the opportunity to re record the actors later on.
Next Time: Another vist from one of MrTardisReviews's old review he did 9 Years ago, The return of a certain British talk show host and co-creator of Gavin & Stacey, And the proper TV return of the Cybermats, Leave the shop folks because it's Closing Time, Too bad they're broken down.
Honestly I completely forgot Closing Time existed
The first 2 parts of "The Seeds of Doom" in season 13 is based on the book that John Carpenter's The Thing is based on.
Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr.
@@kierenevans2521 yea, I have the book but I havnt gotten around to reading it
Next time on Cybercember: One of the most powerful species in the universe being foiled by the power of love
To be fair, one of the things I ha
To be fair, one of the things I have learned from this marathon is that strong emotions have been a weakness of the Cybermen longer than gold has...
Ironically this might be the best Eleventh Doctor Cyberman story and it's not even televised. I have a soft spot for Nightmare in Silver though as it has lots of stuff I like (Eleven, Gaiman, Cybermen, Warwick Davis) but tomorrow's gonna be a bit rough...
EDIT: Just watched the bit about Matt Smith as a voice actor and I think you're right - he's a physical actor, kinda like how it's hard to write Troughton in prose. Maybe that's why he's not been doing Big Finish, that or his immense schedule.
Shame Matt Smith only had 2 Cybermen stories and were both terrible
I remember when you first reviewed these, and I remember loving your reviews then and here you still are with the same sense of humour. The Exploding Jelly Babies from Destiny still makes me laugh to this day! 😂
Love hearing Steve and Jeff return! I remember you reviewing this when it came out !!
I honestly do question the circumstances which led to matts lines coming across as fairly flat
Time restrictions?
Lack of Direction?
Can't wait for Chumbleycember next year!!!
Ah man, I love the Adventure Games! I've been meaning to download them again.
I know a guy who worked on the development team of The Gunpowder Plot, Tom Barker who worked on the sound
Maybe the games were made early on during the production of series 5. When Matt Smith and the production team are still trying to figure out what kind of doctor the 11th doctor was going to be. So they try to strip the character down to basics enough for everyone to be able to recognize "yeah that's the Doctor". So that way it can match up with what is seen on screen. I feel like Matt got into the groove of things with his doctor in the games as the series progressed. Also maybe Matt had to tone it down a bit because maybe the developers could only do so much animation with the time given to make these games. That's my two cents worth on the points you've brought up. Great video by the way 😉
I wish there was a way to play these again somehow.
God, I still remember your review from 10 years ago. Yes, I have been playing these games again on their anniversaries. Yes, they are still awesome. No, they are not free or on Steam anymore.
Matt Smith in this game always sounded like they got him out of bed and brought him into the recording booth with his pajamas still on
This is actually canon by the way as the BBC confirmed the Adventure Games were
When speaking about Doctor Who games, yiu can't forget the new Weeping angel mobile game coming out, I dunno, soonish I guess? Either way, I'm excited for it!
I love how they removed the "C" logo and circular chest plate, making the chest flat and instead put the telos cyber logo engraving on it instead, it really grounds these cybermen in the doctors universe.
It's a shame they never re tooled the costumes to have a different chest panel. They modified the cybus neck padding for their re use in the doctor falls becoming a more foam flexible based material than the fibreglass piece.
These cybermen look a lot better without the bulge in the chest.
I really wanna replay the adventure games but there not available anymore
Wait does anyone know why he missed out Army of Ghosts/Doomsday? Maybe because he reviewed it in Dalekcember? Loving the videos though!
There's a big plot hole in this. Amy acts in both this, and "The Pandorica Opens", as if she's never seen a Cyberman. Also, no "Pandorica Opens" review? An empty cybersuit is a major enemy in that episode.
Cracks in Time?
ok.
1. The game is non canon
2. The cracks in time are the reason why she doesn't remember the Cybermen, the same reason why she also didn't remember the Daleks in Victory of the Daleks
We need a mastercember next
Just watched the review you did 10 years ago. When you do these re-reviews I watch previous ones as it's interesting seeing how views change over the years.
As I put it The Adventure Games were a fun way to spend an afternoon. Unfortunately only place I have them now is on old and slow computer I downloaded them onto in 2013. I can't play them anywhere else. And many other games have gone down, such as Cyber Assault.
It's not a bad game. The storyline is ok. Does base under siege, although base has already been taken over when they get there. And distinctive as had Cybermats back.
Wow the Cybermen getting that EU love
Daleks are just crying
Well the Daleks probably don't like the EU. They want to take back control.
Yep called it.
Loved those games as a kid but I despised doing the maze mini games.
My dream doctor who videogame would be an outer wilds style FPS mystery game where the doctor is stuck in an unknown place in space and time and you have to use the TARDIS to go to different planets and periods in time to solve the mystery and save the doctor
i bloody knew it haha, and i haven't even watched and heard what you think about it yet
Only issue with this was I found the cyberslaves more threatening than the cybermen so when the cybermen got released it kind lost its impact
And to think. They all LAUGHED at Steve when he turned down the role for The Five Doctors. Who’s laughing now?
ah fuck i forgot about closing time, can we just pretend it didn't happen and do another big finish?
Is there any reason you skipped "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday"?
He already reviewed it in during Dalekcember
I like Blood of the Cybermen
Never played these games. How do they compare to the Wii game -return to earth? (also a Cybermangame) because that.... was not good.
How did Steve get to be a Cyber-Lord
I actually like seeing Matt Smith's performance here as an alternative 11th Doctor, but only as an alternative, more tired Doctor enjoying the world despite himself. But only as an alternative. It's very unlike the main 11th Doctor and doesn't work as "Official" Who as they were presented as.
That was the Series 7B 11th Doctor.
Oh dear god no, i dreaded when we would inevitably reach the James corden saga.
These games were like anxiety stims.
So uh, was I the only one who watched walkthroughs of all the Adventure Games after this? I might have too much free time...
I never played this game before and I only play Doctor Who The Edge of Time on PS4 and doctor who the eternity clock ps3 both these games are good
I miss these games. Really hope they Renew the License but lets be honest it won't happen
Wait a sec, the Sarah Douglas from Superman 2?? crikey
You know what would be crazy? Star Wars: the Force Unleashed... but it's Doctor Who. Doctor Who: Unleashed!
What character from the whoniverse would even be suited for the OP Starkiller type role though?
@@EditedAF987
I'm sure that the Doctor could be adapted to the role.
@@bluehero-96 yeah there’s no way that turning the doctor into the protagonist of an absurdly violent slasher game is going to go down very well with the Doctor who fandom. The Doctor just isn’t that kind of character, and Doctor who isn’t that kind of show.
@@EditedAF987
It's not out of character at all. The Doctor is capable of, and has done, some really horrible things in both old and newWho. For example, the Third and Twelve Doctors knew and actively used martial arts, at least Three, Four, Five, and Ten have dueled with swords, and the newWho Doctors treat the sonic screwdriver as a mechanical wand these days.
@@bluehero-96 the Doctor rarely resolves a story by fighting and slashing his way through enemies, even when he occasionally uses physical violence it’s only to incapacitate. Normally the Doctor’s solutions are more tactical, are dependent on the current situation and location, and rely upon the support of side characters and companions.
A slasher game wouldn’t really capture that strategic side of the Doctor, as they usually only offer a set pathway where all you can do is fight your way through hordes of enemies leaving little room for any real player agency into how they operate.
If you’re going to do a video game with the Doctor as the main protagonist then it’s got to feel true to how they handle things: Whipping up new gadgets on the fly; exploring the area, solving problems and learning how to use the environment to your own advantage; earning the trust of side characters for their assistance; getting the angle on your enemies by learning and exploiting their weaknesses; leaving the violent course of action as a last resort. Those are all essential elements that make the Doctor unique amongst other protagonists, so to strip all of that away would just mean that they wouldn’t feel like the doctor we know and love.
I watched the “movie version” some one posted up and I loved it
I also played city of the Daleks but during of the stealth sections it glitched so i died to the daleks for eternity
Yeah watch The Seeds Of Doom if you want The Thing on Doctor Who.
👍👍❤️❤️
Come to think of it, how about you review the VR game some time?
I'm afraid I don't have a way of playing VR games :/
@@MrTARDIS A cheap Windows Mixed Reality headset can be a great starter kit, if you happen to have a strong gaming PC. Doesn't even need to be a really recent one.
Ok but why would someone play a tie in game
Well tie in games for movies and tv shows used to be all the rage in the early 2000’s. Then one day, executives realised that the limited time spans that they gave to developers weren’t really suited to video game production and just kinda gave up on it.
@@EditedAF987 no i think they moved from consoled to phones and got worse gameplay wise and better in terms of being functional, seriously why is the phone game market full of garbage, it has potential because theres multi touch, shaking as a controll method, tilt controlls, and probobly a few other things to take advantage of that are device graphic functions in settingslike inverted colors, alternate color settings and the zoom function, i think they could make a uniqe game useing those random things, but no they make garbage in a week insted
It's such a pity they gave up on this formula, it really suited the show. They just needed a better business model. Don't give them away free in the UK but don't try chartering a full AAA game price either, release them on more platforms like consoles and mobile, they could be a big success, especially if they maybe got different Doctors to feature.
Well series 5 was before rhey exaggerated Matt Smith’s childish side
lots of people guessed correctly
Yet there's one more comic .
I remember these games! My brother and I could never get far in them, though. Why does everyone look like Woody from Toy Story?
Matt Hancock?
I would love the recently revived Telltale games to take a crack at Doctor Who episodic games. If they could totally go Big Finish on it with writing and have a series arc or unconnected stories, and through the magic of voice acting they could have older Doctors star in them as a bit of variety.
Oh no tomorrow it's that mess great got to sit through another Gareth Roberts script wonderful "groan".
There's also Return To Earth on the Wii....
One of the worst games I've ever played....
Ah yes, the video game crossover between Doctor Who and The Crystal Maze
