World’s best Iyangar Rasam Podi, Powder in Tamil English

  • My mom Mrs. Sulochana of Chennai shows you How she makes the best Rasam Powder I have ever tasted. This is her secret recipe that I am sharing for everyone to get a Taste of Iyangar Samayal (cooking). Enjoy!
    Ingredients and Steps for Rasam Podi:
    MIX ALL THESE TOGETHER COLD and GRIND THEM IN A MIXER OR GRINDER. MOM SAYS DO NOT ROAST THEM!
    3 Cup Black Peppercorns (250 g)
    1 and 1/2 Cup Jeera (no grams available from Mom)
    6 cup Dhania (500 g)
    3 cup Toor Dal (500 g) - also known as Tuvar Dal in Hindi or Thuvaram Paruppu in Tamil
    20-30 Dry Roasted Curry Leaves
    1 Dried Turmeric
    3 Cups of Dried Red Chillies (250 g) - remove the head
    Mix all the above together in a Mixer or Grinder and grind them somewhat coarse. DO NOT ROAST THEM! DO NOT ADD OIL or SALT OR ANYTHING ELSE!
    Just Grind it and enjoy it in your Rasam Making!

      My mom always made Rasam podi to be stored for a few weeks. We also were a big family. So what you are seeing here is what you need for a big family 5+ and for more than a month. Hope this helps!

    This is the best rasam powder recipe 👌.as when v roast the ingredients the fresh aroma changes completely and it feels like sambar rather than rasam.

    Swami! Thanks for the recipe. I will try it out. BTW, a bit of editing will make it enjoyable. Your comments like "add salt to the mixture" clearly tell that you have never been to the kitchen, Best to allow your Mom to do the talking.

    Mami, please you should have shown the proportion in small quantities. But anyways thanks. I will use a small tumbler as my family is a small one and like to make fir not more than 15 days. My sincere and deep regards to U.

    Pls post a video of same rasam powder with less quantity. For example 3 spoon dhaniya seeds, 2 spoon pepper corn,etc pls take small quantity of all the ingredients and post it

    One small doubt. Please confirm whether we have to dry all incredients in the sun light or we can dry roast . Pl clarify

      You cannot dry roast. You can dry it in the sun. That’s what gives Amma’s Rasam Podi it’s distinctive flavor.

    Sri Lakha, the ingredients are: black peppercorns, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, Toor/Thor dhal-lentils, dried whole turmeric, and dried red chilli.

    3 cups menasu+1.5 cup jeergey+ 3 cups togaribeley+6cups dhaniya + red chillies approximately 3 cups+ vanagida karibevu + arishina+ uppu . Powder them without roasting.

    Thanks Paati 🙏, I wanted only authentic Iyengar Saththamudhu recipe . Since we measured all ingredients in cups, how many cups of chillies in this recipe. . So the ratios can be maintained for smaller quantities as well. Thanks🙏

      Daily u should do dry grinding for daily usage . If you need better aroma or smell. Coffee fry and grind and also rasa podi daily grind will give . That is speciality of Iyengar speciality

    How can we measure all ingredients in cups coriander ,dhal ,pepper, dried chillies differ in weight. Please give meserments in grams for more convenient.

      If rice is not digestible, then you can try boiling Oats which are very nutritious and tasty and melt easily in your mouth. Try It with some light honey or some salt if she can take it.
