- USA Basketball dominated Serbia and Kevin Durant was amazing but there’s still a mystery around this team. Kawhi Leonard was not given the time to heal up before Paris like KD and we’re finally learning why he was kicked off the roster.
For a guy who never talks Kawhi sure attracts a lot of drama

I feel bad for the guy because he's one of my favorite players and has had horrible luck when it comes to injuries.

I feel like kawhi is the closest thing to a role player that you can get from a superstar. He's willing to do the dirty work and focus on defense while not being a detriment offensively.

I don't buy the whole, "He's a loner" argument. I mean, sure he doesn't talk to the MEDIA that much, but according to both his current and former teammates, he's one of the funniest guys on the team. Even Pat Bev, one of the most outspoken players, has said Kawhi's got jokes.

I've never heard of any player (other than his former Spurs teammates during the whole injury/Raptors trade debacle) having beef with Kawhi on or off the court. In fact, if you look up clips of NBA players talking about Kawhi, you can find Lebron, Curry, KD, and even Kobe giving him high praise for his elite, two-way skillset.
In a team where the main goal is just to win every game, regardless of egos or who gets the most points/touches, a healthy Kawhi would be extremely valuable to that team. I just can't see LeBron or any other player turning down what Kawhi can bring to the team, all because of some "high school" mentality that he is a "loner" and "no one likes him."

I loved when Kawhi wouldn’t put up with Gregg Popovich’s bullying, left the team, then went and won a championship for Toronto. Kawhi can play on my team anytime. Even Parker and Ginobli bullied him to play. I’m glad Kawhi sought outside medical help and took the year off to heal properly instead of reinjurying and blowing out his Achilles like Durant did at Golden State. I’m disappointed in Grant Hill for not fighting for Kawhi. Kerr is just a Popovich puppet.

This narrative that Kawhi is a negative influence on the team is an insane take. He's won 3 championships. And he's the one superstar willing to do the garbage work to win. He would've been perfect on the US team.
3 Finals appearances with only 2 chips to show for. First and second times were against Bron's Heatles. Lost the first time then avenged that loss a year later. Won his first Finals MVP trophy too. Five years later he wins in Toronto with also another FMVP award. The man has histories with KD, Steph, and Bron. It would've been something seeing 4 Finals MVPs on the court together ofc.

It's funny and sad at the same time. We saw Kawhi walk in there by himself while all the other players were together laughing and daping. He walked in through the front door and got kicked out the back door. Hope he has a healthy season and used this for motivation, he's still able to carry a team far.
Grant Hill was pressured by Nike to do 3 things: 1) Make sure Kyrie was not on this team, 2) Make sure Jaylen was not on this team, and 3) Remove Kawhi from this team. There was nothing anyone could do about it, LeBron and Hill were simply given their orders. I still think the USA have a great squad but they would have been that much better with these guys, and as fans, we are missing out on what that team would have accomplished.
What about Embied?
Everytime people want to add a player to a squad you have to think who you are going to take out? Yes you are going to say Derrick white or Booker etc. Those guys are asked to do dirty work defensively and stand on a corner offensively. You think Kyrie will do that happily and effectively? Offensively Maybe…defensively not a chance.
And before you say anything..yes I think Kyrie is the better player but not the better fit for what is needed.

You’re nearly there, but didn’t state the reason. The international game has teams that are either guard centric or big centric. You have to match up with both types of teams, and you don’t do that with wing players.

Derrick white just provides more energy and is a much smarter off ball player. It’s hard for superstars to adjust to new roles. You already have Lebron, kd, steph, and Ant dominating the ball. We have seen how poorly Embiid has played compared to bam and AD. Embiid is a better play than those 2 but he has a harder time playing without the basketball.

No that wasn’t it. Kawhi gets hurt because he doesn’t play basketball at all during the summer and uses the preseason to get into playing shape. That’s why he usually sucks during training camp. This was the first time he was actually going to play competitive basketball in the summer leading into the season.
