it really is the best of both, all the float and single board in powder, all the concentrated edge pressure... can't catch heelside/toeside- plus don't have that massive blind side its a snowboard, fronty stance two skis definitely have some advantages
Best parts for some: lower risk of knee injury, flotation in powder, can't crossover skis, peripheral vision, poles for flats. I guess the bad is worse on lifts than skis. Needs to carve since skidding doesn't work well.

wow, the entrance to Cobett's changes a lot, sometimes that little side traverse looks like an 80 degree steep wall that I don't understand how anyone can stand one, but here it looks actually pretty reasonable 1:06
I tried it for 3 days in the Alps in spring 1983 at age 19. A group was doing in powder carving turns and no poles. I am n eastern Canada moguls only skier so I used it with poles - moguls no problem. The hardest part for me was the flat slow terrain, where you lose your center of gravity. Now I may see one every 5 years.
Is there a board I can buy that switches from snowboarder to monoboarder quickly? That way when ski Patrol catch me boarding at Alta or Deer valley I come up clean when they finally apprehend me?
I don’t see why you couldn’t mount AT bindings to a split board set up for hard boots. There are even some soft boot split board bindings at allow you to lock your heel for long skate sections
Once I had seen and been impressed by a monoski riding straight down on virgin snow lifting up its head like as the bike wheely. Are there any movie like that ?
The turning looks much more beautiful on a mono board. Not hating on boarders but many of them really suck. Many never truly carve a turn and in the bumps its even worst. I apologize to the boarders who have truly spent the time to learn how to ride, you are awesome.

Mis-Appropriation of snowboarding 😡😡 Ha ha ha. I’m so old I didn’t know there were dedicated mono skis. They showed up as a small fad (early 70’s?) when I was a kid but were merely a normal ski with a raised platform mounted on the ski that was wide enough for 2 boots.
i practiced it when i was young but nowadays it's impossible to buy a board; i guess it's not manufactured anymore for a couple of decades... sad that's probably the most funny thing to ride once you got the way it works...

ok this is incomplete, need to get up an old and long swiss surface lift "Anker Lift" (2 people, single rider is cheating) on an icy day. That used to be the real challenge. There is one in Breckenridge it is just too short. :)
Because it's so darned fun! It's also a bit easier on the knees too because one leg gets to take a mini-break while the leg on the uphill edge is working; that also translates to use of a bit less energy. On "2-planks", I'm gassed at the end of the day . . . on my monoski I'm going strong even after the last run of the day. And, my guilty pleasure, I have to admit, I like being kind of different, and having folks yell out from the chair "Woa! Mono!" really gets me grinning. Vid link attached, I'm the second skiier. Today (Feb. 2021) the commercial story of monosky shows it was a failed tool, ridiculous, low performing, may be also dangerous. It totally and rightly disappeared from the market. Many types of powder ski are absolutely more skilled than this nonsense old tool
It takes from two worlds! But it takes only cons! Like quadbike standing i traffic in rain xd Also ot's worst position and movements for your body, that you can imagine!
@Jamie 2015 UA-cam not really since the stance on a mono ski is kind of lame. It has one ski like a board but none of the benefits. it stinks. Even telemarking is better than monoakiing. At least Telemark skiing has functional roots in backcountry hiking and skiing... Monoskiing is basically like "hey guys lets put two bindings on one ski and see if it works... basically you are either standing and riding or on your ass.. no inbetween.... Snowboarding is great because very often you can easily ride out of a mistake. Same with telemark skiing... Mono skiiing seems to be a kind of weird wacky loner dude sport mainly for groomers and pow for those who are more advanced...dont mind digging out of 4 feet of fluff and taking for ever to get back into the bindings..
When You come across a Monoskier again, in any corner of The Mountain, don't look at his legs, look at his face and look at his smile (if the pandemic leaves Us) then you will understand why.

I have seen monos in great challenges and in 45% slopes, I do not think they were there to feel unique, also it is not just Monoski, you can combine it with Freeride and Mogul, the Monoski provides technique, it does not remove it.( So,The same prejudices that snowboarders live and the same limitations (or not) on ice.And the same ones that lived the first skateboards)

It is more difficult to ride it well but as a skier and a snowboarder I can say it can give you the best of both

The fact some resorts still ban snowboarding is ridiculous. Maybe just have “ski only” features on specific runs.

Actually, there are a few brands who manufacture new monoskis like Duret and SnowGunz. I ride a Duret magnum bought five years ago.
