Hello, I'm from Latin America and I would like to know one thing, you know, here we use the machete a lot since it is a great tool BUT it was also used as a combat weapon in old times like in Cuba where you could see militarized designs with guards I even think there was certain machete systems here based a bit on saber combat but obviously they are not the same and well, I would like to know, could a machete or some types be considered as a type of sabers?

I have swung both sabers and long- and arming swords, and I must say, the pommel makes the swords a lot more comfortable to use, by shifting the point of balance closer to you.
The saber put a lot more strain on my wrist

They controlled balance and mass distribution via profile and distal taper on sabres. DIfferent sabres feel completely different!

So, how do I get into Sabre combat training? Also, where would I go to get a Sabre that is sharp and is meant to be used?

Start by looking for HEMA clubs in your area. If there are none, you can learn the basics at an Olympic Fencing club. That's a very effective alternative!
Sharp sabres for cutting practice are made by makers like Silk Fencing, Windlass, and Cold Steel.

John Musgrave Wait thought that sabres should still have pommels. That thought is in the back of his book near the sword feats section, where he talks about how to sharpen a sword.

I just read up on that. He says "the pommel should be considerably heavier than is customary". Very interesting, thank you!

The question for me would be if the endpiece adds weight or is mostly there to give the grip it's shape and reinforce it...
When you look at a gladius, it clearly served both (wooden pommel). In case of a Shamshir with horn grip it's not as clear...

As times change the need for pommels became less as the advancement of firearms progress.
