These laptops have come a long way. I'm glad Chris still reviews them. When I was a student and couldn't afford a better laptop, he was the only reviewer on UA-cam I found who gave them a comprehensive review and saved me from making poor choices. I still enjoy watching these reviews even if I have a G15 now. Thanks for your honest reviews, Chris.

yeah, this is pretty much what I thought it would be, if not a little better in terms of 4k60 youtube playback, where I thought it would fair a bit worse than it actually does. the price tag also struck me a bit hard when I saw this laptop was coming... it would have to be seriously good to justify it.
I also believe AMD's about to announce some new mobile chips, and I'm curious to see what those will bring and if these brands start to adopt them too... I really want to get one of these but the expectation that something that'll just hit that sweet spot of price to performance is around the corner will keep me from buying it once again... for now 😅
Chuwi, if you're watching this, give it a fully laminated screen (same specs otherwise), maybe a little smaller (13' instead of 13.5') to help with the weight/size for tablet use, and throw an N5105 at least into it (10W variant from the same generation that I haven't seen being used yet)... call it the "Freebook X" or something... and don't charge that much for it, it's not much of a FREEbook at this price 😆😅 I know I'm asking quite a bit, but tbh for this price that's what it should've been, to destroy the competition, which as of right now isn't much to be fair...
I don't think a more powerful version needs an i5, as most laptops these companies make are low end budget devices, and with this one we can already see the price creeping up as the quality of the materials goes up too, the better hinges, etc... a recent i3 variant (maybe 11th gen) at this point would be more than enough for a nifty and "cheap" work centered 2-in-1 like these. keep the price under those crappy plastic asus, lenovo, acer ones that are overpriced up the wazoo and you'll have a winner for sure. 😉

Before you buy, Try to return it. I bought a chuwi mini computer, it bricked within 4 months of use. Chuwi did not offer any help. Chuwi wrote "Hello, then you can directly see Amazon's customer service to see if it can be replaced, you can also do it without contacting me" Chuwi washed their hands and did not want to be bothered. Know this before you buy....

Hi! This one resembles the (now 2 year old) original BMAX Y13 very much but probably better quality built. It would be great if you do a side-by-side comparison with it, if I recall correctly you also had one? I still own it and this CHUWI would be a good upgrade if only the price was right. Too expensive for what it is, I think.

They really need to up the battery game. Lithium battery can be shaped randomly, an L form factor can be used that can add at least 30% capacity. 38Wh is so 2019, many Chuwi's competitors have gone up 20% to 45.6Wh (7.6V/6A).

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 роки тому

Definitely they have room to make this a 45wh 50 or even maybe 60Wh machine just adding a few more cells to it. But nope they wanted to keep the costs down.

So when the jumper book pro came out in 2017 these netbooks were great, even revolutionary at the price (under £200) and with decent capabilities for the time. Now fast forward 4+ years and what have we got... essentially the same tech CPUs and spe with slight design improvements...that's it... and at twice the cost. What these netbooks need to be relevant again is a refresh with AMD 4000 or 5000 CPU and good value. I mean for 550$ of this machine you've reviewed you could get a Lenovo 5 with 5500u...what am I missing

*3:2 Aspect Ratio + QHD* display is the absolute killer feature here.
In my experience 16:9 and 16:10 are too narrow to use tablet mode comfortably in portrait orientation, and FHD is unacceptable in 2022 when laptops have had QHD since 2012.
    Sadly Chris is right, $500 is "4-Core" R3-5400U / i3-1125G4 territory. Lenovo Yoga 6 (2-in-1) even has a premium Ryzen 5 CPU for $600.

Ya, they dropped the ball not having a USB A port and a SD slot. Surprised they didn't have a pad to sink the heat to the bottom like they did on their HiPad X tablet.
Like to see pens with AAAA batteries, much better than replacing the whole pen when the battery goes bad and they do make rechargeable AAAA and can fit in some battery compartments that take AAA if they use coil springs.
    Should've went with at least a N6000.
Also don't know why they display it with the keyboard down when you could just turn the LT around.
I see they're still photoshopping their displays to make the bezels thin to what is actual so I won't be buying their brand til they stop doing so, nothing but deception.

The Chinese manufactures always seem to lag a step behind when it comes to these ultra-budget chips. In past years they were giving us N3XXX and N4XXX while HP and Acer were equipping their equivalents with the N5000. Now the Chinese are delivering the N5100 when the latter two manufacturers are giving us the N6000 in machines that cost less. This Chuwi has a pretty nice screen, though.

Definitely overpriced. I feel like Vivobook Slate 13 should dominate entry level x86 2in1 market - similar pricepoint, but an OLED screen with slightly newer CPU (still a low-powered one). Although I understand that some might prefer a 360 device instead of a tablet+keyboard combo.

I kind of feel OLED and Windows are a bad mix. I've only owned two devices with OLED, but they both ended up having burn-in (or rather burn-out). My LG TV was the worst, first signs of burn-in afyer 6 months, and now after 3 years it's ruined, yellow is now green and there's burnt-in elements cluttered all over the top and bottom from the static elements. Don't expect OLED screens to last as long as the rest of the system.

@@hasyoucheeseburger1510 Ruined after only 3 years? Maybe it had some factory issues? I had an OLED tablet once, no problems with color quality, but after 5~6 years bright areas took forever to fade. In general I am against tech with short life span, but OLED sounds like an okay choice for a streaming media consumption device (so, no logos to burn in like with TV). I don't want to defend the technology or anything, it just is difficult for me to believe that the quality of your TV was so low, that it took such short amount of time for it to deteriorate. Shame on LG, I guess.

@@sp0el Yeah I guess there's a reason they don't cover burn-in under the warranty. You can definitely extend the lifespan of an OLED screen by making sure there are no static elements on it, like if you use it exclusively for streaming in full screen mode. But using it with Windows is problematic in my opinion, since there are lots of static elements in browsers etc.

Slate is a vaporware right now, supposed to cost a whopping $850+ USD for a SSD option, lacks 3:2 ratio and QHD resolution, and the keyboard and touchpad inputs on it are terrible according to reviewers.

amd is about to announce new processors in like 2 or 3 days... it's expected that they also announce new mobile chips that would be used in laptops like this. expect those to hit marked in the middle of the year, not now for sure.

You should look up "HP Pavilion 14", it has Ryzen 3 5300U 8-thread CPU and a 400 Nit screen for $500, double the performance of the Chuwi for same price.
And if I'm not mistaken, I believe this year AMD won't be releasing any low-end APUs to compete with Intel's Celeron/Pentium, due to their supply issues.
