  • One way to make a quick and easy trap to catch fish in a creek or small pond. this one is a smaller trap for smaller fish. Same method for bigger traps.
I`m sorry that I can not show that it works. It is not legal to catch fresh water fish this way in Norway, but I have to admit that I have done this in my youth, cought trouts in traps like this one.
The trout in this video is up this creek to spawn, that makes it even more illegal...

Thanks Odd, I’d like to give this a go - I’m crap at fishing with a rod, so trapping might be a better option for me! Plus I love weaving! 👍 Thanks for sharing, Atb, Simon.

Interesting technique for constructing an all natural trap, but don't you need something to induce a fish to go into it? Stream fish like that trout normally hang in one spot and wait for a snack to float by, or swim by, or crawl by. They don't go exploring.

    Hi you :)
A friend and mine very like to watch your show!
We are planning to go for something we call "surving" ( between survival and camping ) to norway.
We dont speak Norsk and have some trouble, findind out what is legal and what is not.
Can u may please help us out?
We're watching your channel, beacause it hits the point of norwegian bushcraft, now we hope u can help us with this cause too.
Its very interesting too see the country, landscape, fishes and so on - we realy want to go to Buskerud in august and need to know what kind of traps are legal there.
We dont realy want to request a video about that,... but could you tell us, which of your fish traps are legal in Norway?
You had some "automatic" - traps and there is given this Autofisher-thingy(JoJo) from america and so on...
We dont wanna get in trouble, we wanna "NorwegianBushcraft" :D
Either way - thanks for your nice channel! Good work we realy like - greetings from Germany, maybe see you this summer over there :P

Excellent video, thank you for sharing. I think I will have to have a go at this, though I am not sure about using Spruce roots. Think I will have to use reeds, which I think were used in ancient times here in the UK anyway.

You can make it out of allmost any fibres, I made my first almost 30 years ago, got the idea from a book about the stone age at school. I made it out if willow twigs and reed from the river side. Put it in the river over night and got 3 trouts in it. As a kid, anything is "legal" ;) That one had to be even smaller than the one in this video. Still, works great.

Why would a fish swim into a hole ? I see no reason for a wild fish to swim into a basket and stay there. Can some one explain to me why this would work ?

I didnt show it in the video. I put a thin long twig thru the basket and put 4-5 worms on it. But did not have that trap in there for long. Cause the fish in that creek now are trouts from Mjøsa comming up to spawn.

Hey Odd, I never got any notification of this one....and it's a good video too! Did you catch anything? I ask because it looks a little small, although I'm a bit of a pygmy when comparing my skills with yours. Good post and thanks :-)) Paul

    • @NorwegianBushcraft
      @NorwegianBushcraft  6 років тому +1

Hi Paul! I had to pick it uo from the creek after the video shot. If I post any catching like this I will get in trouble. It is not legal. But, I have to admit I have done it in the past, as a kid. I made on very much alike this one, out of river reed and twigs. It was not bigger, more likly smaller and it caught several 100gram trouts at the time. Even bottle traps out of 1,5 liter and 2 liter bottles catch fish up to 250 grams easily. In a earlier video I made on only out of small willow saplings, that one was much bigger. These traps also works well for catching crayfish. I will do another later and set it in the ocean, there it is legal, and I will show it in action.
      Thanks for watching
      -Odd

Hi Lonnie, it took me about an hour in total with all the gathering and filming. IT does work, I promise you ;) As a kid I caught some trouts in a river one summer with a trap like this made out of river reed.
I will do this again and set it in the ocean were it is legal to do, to show that it works well. My son catch trouts in bottle traps like this . Those are even smaller, but still nice "snack-trouts".
