Leaking rocker cover won't affect compression readings aswell, crankcase pressure and cylinder pressures are 2 totally different things. Generally turbo's cars run lower compression than normally aspirated

I agree with this comment, there were videos in the past he done that wasn't for me, so I just stopped watching them, didn't need to be negative to the guy cause I'm not paying for it and it just wasn't my style, these ones I enjoy a lot though.
Loving this content, it's nice to see someone actually continuing a series instead of giving up after a couple of videos. Plus the amount of stuff you're learning about different cars has got to be worth its weight in gold going forward. Keep it up, looking forward to the next one.
Lean means too much air not too less air, usually either a bad maf sensor, bad 02 sensor or there's a split somewhere in a hose so it's pulling in un metered air for future reference on ya builds :)
I always read the comments on your videos and I don’t get the hate you get in the comments I really don’t understand why people are so sad with them selves that they attack decent dudes like you just making great videos and having fun I. See stupid complaints like your explaining to long you waving your hands to much like can’t they just stfup watch the video keep doing you bro forget the haters love from South Africa
At approx 7:00 you could have used the live data feature of the scanner to see the cylinder misfire counts. At 9:30 approx, also have a look at live data to see if the value of airflow was plausible (for the revs and size of engine) - the rule of thumb is, at idle, 1.8g/s per litre of displacement. But its just a reassurance/extra check, you got it pretty quick with the smoke test. Also don't forget to look at long and short term fuel trims when you get lean/rich codes.
He could check stoicometric to make sure his afr is 14:7:1 but agree on your comment totally. Fuel trims live data and a multimeter can save people alot of money.
Crankcase pressure and compression from a compression test are two different things. The compression test is testing the pressure created in the cylinder nothing to do with crankcase pressure. A leak in rocker cover gasket won’t affect compression, but given your readings from each cylinder are close enough together I’d say your compression is fine. Loving this series though hope you get this one sorted soon looking forward to the next vid 👌🏻
For those not in the know There can be a difference of up to 15 psi between any cylinder. You have to floor the throttle to get a higher psi when turning the engine over. Don't forget to release the pressure from the gauge after each cylinder check, otherwise the compression tester will go kaput. Great video jesse look forward to the next one.
I did put it last time but here we go again , that plug in the middle of the rocker cover is for the valvetronic and you get oil wicking up the plug into the wiring I bet inside that plug is oil
For those who keep complaining about Jesse's hand movements, they are not a problem. I work in media, they are expressive and natural and Jesse don't start thinking or over thinking your hand gestures. That would be a mistake you are a natural on camera and very assertive, confident and positive in your visual articulation. Every Success!
Jesse mate, these videos are honestly so class. The journey has been insane. Really dont understand the negative comments. Need to mature and just enjoy the video 😭 Literally on edge with each episode its great content for real!
You can use live data to check the fuel trims.... also you can check a map sensor by facing heat at it.... the hotter it gets the lower the resistance will be on multimeter. As for maf sensor check the wiring to plugs for voltage/ground. Visual checks are never that great on these two sensors. Also you can get fake crap bosch sensors of ebay that just won't do the job. But as a mechanic you can check the fuel the trims to see if its making the stoicometric AFR which is 14.7:1 this means for every one gram of fuel it needs 14.7 grams of air to be mixed correctly. There are circumstances where this changes slightly. Cold start and wide open throttle. Anyway your doing great. But definitely get the multimeter out more and the live data.
Them strut brace bolts you removed are stretch bolts. Youll need to nip to bmw and grab some new ones. They're only cheap and usally have them.off the shelve. And of course torque them up
Jesse - i had one of these in before with a misfire, checked loads, changed an injector, nothing helped - it was running on cheap fuel - just make sure you get some vpower in it ASAP incase it rears its head again
Google is a good place to check between rich and lean mixture. Intake leak would suggest too much air lean so if your had a leak after air mass This could possibly cause this. And also check measure values for misfire recognition per item not moving two items per cylinder. I appreciate you’re not a trained professional however you’re teaching bad habits effectively dart board diagnostic. This is why technicians charge what they do for the experience

Big urself up Jesse great job mate been watching since the corsa D days and you aspire so many people and I personally love watching the vids keep up the great work that you do 👍🏼
Subscribed and great to see the series progressing. A couple of minor comments - lean means too much air or too little fuel. Plus, engine compression is not affected by a leaking cam cover but things like broken on-closing valves or worn piston rings 😉
I had valvetronic issues on my old m135i. I tried to run the same procedure as you and it didn't work either. Think you'll need a new valvetronic motor and potentially a new eccentric shaft and bearings too as sometimes the shaft has wear from the motor jamming
i had a similar code on my old one with the valvetronic and ended up having to replace the eccentric shaft which was a pretty big an expensive job, involves disassembling most of the parts in the head
I dunno if what your doing has been done before swapping up cars, but since you've been doing. I've seen others doin it. Over here and over the pond in America
Really enjoyed all the content, hope the new, if you get one, valvetronic sorts that all out, looks like a decent motor that's been neglected, hopefully you can source a headlamp, and looks like your well on your way to swapping that. Look forward to the next instalment
It would’ve been reading the air at the MAP sensor and calculating the fuel requirements from that, but with the air leak it would be sucking more air in. Too much air and not enough fuel. Good find with using the smoke machine👍🏻 if the fault doesn’t come back once you’ve swapped the coil pack and plugs over it could potentially just be a loose connection and fixed it by disturbing it. Any links to the smoke machine that you’ve used please?
Jess, just thought I'd give some correctional advice where you got some of your diagnosis wrong. The compression gauge info reads in 5psi increments so your compression results were from 145psi to 155psi. The other info you have wrong is a lean condition is too much air in the system not too much fuel, so you had an air leak resulting in a lean condition too much air not too much fuel unmetered air bypassing the airfow sensor, the valvetronic solenoid your require the control rod as well and make sure you obtain the correct grease from BMW otherwise you will have big issues.
I would just like to congratulate you Jesse. I have been watching your videos on and off for years. It always seemed like you wasn't quite sure of which direction you should be taking, always searching for an identity. But you have really evolved. I now really look forward to another instalment. it's really interesting and entertaining. Well done Jesse and keep up the good work.
Had alot of the same issues on my DS3 (Which has a BMW/Mini engine) - For me, it turned out to be the downstream Lambda Sensor which was working but not correctly. This was messing with the fuel mix, causing misfires, rough idle, no power, etc.
Valve cover gasket can leak compression 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Study little bit of basic of engines. Or it was a great joke. But valvetronoc can effect it, valves are not opening as they should. Valvetronoc varieties valve opening "size", length as long valve is pressed down. And it's a turbo engine, they have a little bit lowered compression ratio. And also ,lean is less fuel, rich is too much fuel. Always fuel. With air it will be opposite, charge pipe was leaking, that's why you had too much air, more air as sensor was measuring..... But great job. Nice to watch you grow. Waiting for next video, and definitely huge like is earned ❤❤❤❤
Hi Jesse i have a 2007 renault megane 1.6i ive got a problem with that car it usually started in the morning when reaching normal driving temp the car cuts out engine and then struggle to start again untill its cooled down. But now even if it's the 1st start up it does not start but if you push start it it starts no problem. Ive change spark plugs and coil packs and cleaned all my sensors but no luck

i did what you are doing now 5 years ago with a friend halfs all the way. we concentrated on cheap small to run and insure cars..started with 1k and ended up with 40k between us within 6 mths. commercial vans are also a good way to go. we worked on a minimum of 40% profit on top of all costs to get there..then i tried sporty cars like your doing and tbh it was not as profitable
Read up on maf sensors.most are hot wire systems that if you use the wrong cleaner or even touch it can cause it to become faulty . Look at live data and that should show if it working along with the feil rails. Cylinder pressure and crank case pressure are not connected. Hope this helps you
Jesse… great video. That clicking noise is valvetronic motor worm gear worn. Should be a relatively easy fix for you👍👍👍 might even be a new valvetronic motor .. again, easy fix 👍
I got very lucky when bought a car from Birmingham. They actually must of they were mugging me off, 2001 suzuki ignis, ran great until i got miles home. Starting bucking and stalled on motorway, called him back as he said if anything happens they will come which i had no faith in anywaybut tried. He said no sold as seen but on add it ran mint apparently, i paid £400 for it and when i finally got the car home i found coil packs and a absolutely loads of stuff replaced trying to fix the bucking as it still had receipts for garage work. Found it was crank sensor cost of £13. Was mint after that until it was written off.
FYI you wouldn't loose compression through the rocker cover and 150psi isn't bad, its good ! it all depends on the manufactures specs. usually between 125 and 175.

Hi Jesse, really enjoying your videos. I usually tinker with motorbikes these days on my channel. Its got me thinking I should maybe try a trade up series with bikes. Keep doing what you do. And dont lose touch with reality like many youtube successful people. 😂
Hey running lean is not enough fuel not enough air, or to much air for the fuel the injectors are passing, spry if some let you know this, also only 9 mins in if you realised after.
Keep this up Jesse, its such a good series. Not many people stick with it. Have some fun with things along the way too. Doesnt have to be all engine diagnostics. Do the odd thing you enjoy too (keep it tastefull though 😂)
LEAN = too much air / not enough fuel. Firstly check for a "vacuum" leak after the MAFin the intake system. If air can get into the intake after the MAF then the ECU has not accounted for the extra air and therefore doesn't add enough fuel and you end up with a LEAN mix. The ECU will pick up on this via the O2 sensors and throw a code. Also the ECU is relying on the injectors to deliver the fuel it is asking them to. So another possibility is faulty injector (s). Or fuel pressure or fuel pump. It could also be an inlet valve issue depending on what type of injection. I.e. if the injector is direct into the cylinder then the inlet valve controls the amount of air and the injector the amount of fuel. So in that case a dodgy valve could supply the wrong amount of air e.g. be stuck open and create a lean mix. However if the injectors are injecting into the inlet plenum then the fuel / air mix is pre inlet valve and the the valve wouldn't affect the mix.
Replace the valve cover whilst your in there, the pcv is built into the cover & is a common failure point. When the oil separator ruptures it pulls too much vacuum & oil vapours into the intake. Result is lots of smoke out the exhaust & high oil consumption. Fouls up intake valves even more than the direct injection does anyway…… Buy a Mahle one instead of bmw. Just replaced mine cost £440 from bmw & it’s made by Mahle which is half the price!! 🤦🤦 got to love bmw

Put a little heater in there while you work you can be warm
the rocker wouldn't have anything to do with the compression. Im not a troll matey your doin a good job keep up the good work
Keep this up Jesse, its such a good series. Not many people stick with it. Have some fun with things along the way too. Doesnt have to be all engine diagnostics. Do the odd thing you enjoy too (keep it tastefull though 😂)
Dude, please put your hand in your pocket, getting dizzy looking at it 😂
Bad habit I’ll fix it

Plenty people talk with their hands mate
Your getting there lad, well done
Are there swirl flaps on the intake like older bmws if there is i would remove and code it out
Replace the valve cover whilst your in there, the pcv is built into the cover & is a common failure point.
When the oil separator ruptures it pulls too much vacuum & oil vapours into the intake.
Result is lots of smoke out the exhaust & high oil consumption. Fouls up intake valves even more than the direct injection does anyway……
Buy a Mahle one instead of bmw. Just replaced mine cost £440 from bmw & it’s made by Mahle which is half the price!! 🤦🤦 got to love bmw
Goes to show mate people are your biggest haters, everyone telling you the engine block
Is gone. Goes to show mate people just lie and hate for no reason!
