    How to 10X your Zoom Meeting recording quality - • Why you should use OBS...
    In this video and blog post, you will learn how to dramatically increase the quality of your Zoom meeting recordings. In our last blog post and video, you can learn about the various video recording options available in Zoom. Our tests show that cloud recordings are generally less than 1 Mbps and local recordings are less than 2 Mbps. A bitrate can be used to rank the quality of a video recording in most scenarios and Zoom’s recording bitrate is quite low. Usually, a low bit-rate for video recordings can result in pixelation and general low quality.
    Using video production software like OBS, Wirecast, or vMix you can gain the ability to choose a higher quality bit-rate for your recordings. Video production software like OBS also allows you to enhance the quality of your videos with audio enhancements and video production features such as transitions and scene organizations. Here is a small list of the benefits of using OBS for video recordings versus Zoom.
    Higher quality recordings for local cameras in your space
    You can play videos into Zoom and on your recordings
    You can create custom meeting countdown timers in Zoom
    You can record and stream in a high-quality high-bitrate video
    You can use virtual sets & Full-HD green screen setups (Zoom caps most virtual background video at 360p)
    You can use NDI supported software and hardware for additional video production possibilities
    You can use amazing plugins including audio enhancements and visual effects
    You can use awesome video production options for layouts and scenes
    And so much more
    Connecting OBS and Zoom
    If any of the above reasons make you interested in OBS, you will soon learn that using OBS with Zoom is a great way to impress your friends and colleagues. But first of all, how do you set up OBS to work with Zoom? The StreamGeeks have produced the following tutorial video that will walk you through this process. OBS software can be installed for free on any Mac, PC or Linux computer. You can use it with Zoom using a virtual webcam and virtual audio cables in order to use OBS as your video and audio bridge between Zoom.

    Recording Zoom Meetings with OBS
    The biggest advantage to recording your Zoom meetings with OBS is for the local cameras you have in your studio. These cameras can be brought into OBS before they are sent to Zoom. In this way, you can record in Full HD or even 4K high bitrate quality. For the incoming video callers in Zoom, you do have a couple options for increasing their quality as well. In general, we suggest capturing Zoom in a 1920x1080p screen capture. Then set up Zoom in full-screen mode with active speak on. You should also enable Group HD Mode if it is available to you in your Zoom dashboard. You should also check the HD checkbox in your Zoom webcam area. These options will help your video quality for incoming video callers coming into Zoom.
    Recording in better quality
    Once you have your OBS system set up to record your Zoom meetings it’s time to set up your OBS bitrate for recording. Our test results show that Zoom cloud recordings are generally less than 1 Mbps and Zoom local recordings are less than 2 Mbps. Most 1080p UA-cam videos are recommended to be recorded at a bitrate of 8 Mbps. So, you should consider a bitrate from the following chart.

    This was a really helpful video since. It answered my questions quickly as I'm just getting started. Can't wait to see the 10x video since I'm just looking to improve the quality simply for now. Thanks!!

    Great video. Got me thinking about obs. Does each member need to have obs to get the good quality equally? Also what’s the best way to record each member individually for editing?

    Great video as usual! It was very useful.
    I have a question (since you know OBS much more than I do), I am using Webex, and I want to put a video, so people in the conference would be able to hear and watch the video. I did your method with zoom with VB cable and virtual camera, so I do have sound and image, but the sound quality is just not as good as when I do it with zoom. Is there a way to improve the sound quality?
    When I use music mode, the sound quality is significantly better. However, there are still cuts in the sound and sometimes there are moments when we hear nothing.
    Thank you so much.

    Hypothetical: Can I use OBS to record Zoom meetings that I'm sitting in on? Meaning, I'm not the host. Would recording it be a digital copy or a loss of quality?

    Thank you so much for this great video it has been really helpful.
    Could I ask your advice please. I am new to obs and trying to get my head around the best way to record my zoom meetings.
    To give you a quick background I run a yoga school and teach online zoom classes. I also record these classss for content on my members area on my website.
    I recently purchased a zv-1 to use as my webcam and also to record my classes. I use a nice blink b500 mic.
    Long story short it seems with the zv-1 I can use as a webcam perfectly and it works well but I had hoped to be able to record my classes locally on the zv-1 so there was no WiFi lags and it was recording in the best quality but sadly this does not seem possible when running the usb stream option. It looks like I must find an alternative, OBS was recommended as a virtual camera. My very long message(sorry 🤦) is: 1. Is it possible to use the virtual camera without the thumbnail of other participants so it's just capturing me as if I was recording it locally and 2. does the virtual camera include WiFi lags???
    Thanks sooo much in advance for your help really appreciate it! My head is melted 🤣

      1. Yes. When you bring your webcam into OBS it should record it full screen. Even though you output the virtual webcam to Zoom.

    • @StreamGeeks
      @StreamGeeks  3 роки тому +1

      2. The great thing about recording locally is that WiFi will not effect your recordings

      @@StreamGeeks thanks so much for taking the time to reply I really appreciate it and that's great that it won't take in any lags, phew that's a relief!
      Also when you say it records full screen you know how zoom has a thumbnail with participants and I have this minimised will it not show this?
      Thanks a mil again so appreciate your help

      @@glenjxnjackson Check out our videos about connecting OBS and Zoom. Essentially you can use the Audio Monitor plugin with a virtual audio cable to do this.

  • @srowley85
    @srowley85 3 роки тому

    It is possible to do this with a single monitor. It won’t be as slick as it is with two monitors, but I’ve found the results of recording with OBS p, as you say here, is much better.

    why not use camtasia recorder? what are the pros and cons of this. Pardon me if this sounds dumb as I'm new .

      That’s a great question. You can definitely use Camtasia. OBS is free and it’s become the favorite for recording and streaming. Is Camtasia free?

      @@StreamGeeks And... I have Camtasia. It does a great job but it takes forever to render. OBS is almost instant as it records what could be a finished product on the fly.

    Hi
    I have OBS with the virtual camera. When I select Zoom in OBS by window capture, the window gets the infinity or mirror effect.
    What can I do to avoid this?
    Thank you

    • @StreamGeeks
      @StreamGeeks  3 роки тому

      That only happens when nobody else is in the video call. You can hide self view or invite more people and it will go away

      @@StreamGeeks Thank you, I will give it a try. All the tutorials I have seen so far when they show the setup didn't have any guests in Zoom meeting yet, only the Zoom host.
      Quick side note, my video quality is still low, could my upload speed (3mb) be the factor?

    • @StreamGeeks
      @StreamGeeks  3 роки тому

      Yes it’s possible. If you are on WiFi connect directly via Ethernet
