Man... most of the snooker player uses open grip only and they are far more accurate than the pool players bc of the nature of the game and the pocket size, I don’t see how using an open grip is a problem. I think a closed grip just hides the problem you have with your stroke. and I’ve actually never seen a proper pool tutorial that says no to an open grip

Not that anything was bad advice but because most of the audience for this video will be lower skilled players there are some important things that were left out...mainly equipment related and conditions...the shape and hardness of the tip and the even the quality of equipment being used...pros almost always play on
Good level tables with newer good quality cloth on them that are ideal for consistent results...the advice given is assuming that players already know all of these things... problem is most players that already know how to draw and just need advice on longer power draw shots are missing at least 1 variable not being considered...and I feel that the target audience was missed...I'm not saying that it's impossible to grab a stick of the wall at your local watering hole will not be good enough to power draw farther away...I'm saying that consistency will be much lower... my advice would be to go to a pool hall with decent quality equipment and practice there because you can eliminate variables that can make it harder to do...1 piece of advice I would give that I learned pretty late that can contribute significantly the harder you hit the cue causing you to miss even center ball hits on the cue ball is when you have to elevate the back of your stick and jack it up because it's over the coushin is that the cue ball jumps off the table and it even happens when you have your cue level...or what you perceive is level... this is one of the main reasons why it is so hard for most players to hit the ball hard accurately... being off slightly left or right causes the cue ball to deflect to the opposite side you hit some and you will miss your aiming point...so it's crucial to practice drills hitting the ball with pace so it hits the rail and leave your stick where it finished the shot so the ball hits the rail and comes back and hits the cue stick ensuring you are hitting the ball accurately...then after being able to do that pretty much consistent is when you are ready to hit object balls with low center for power draw

the rule of thumb on a power draw spot shot is, if you can draw it to the first diamond like karl is doing, thats considered very good on worn in simonis cloth. New cloth is about the same because you get more slide but you tend to come higher off of the first side rail, maybe scratch into the adjacent side pocket. It depends on cue ball, red circle tends to come higher than a measle ball.
People say the cb weight is different between the two balls but that's not true, it's the composition of the two cue balls is different. Thats why you get a "heavier" reaction with a measle. Red circle tends to deflect more off of the tangent, giving it a "lighter" reaction.
    Now, heres the thing.
Karl himself will admit shane van boening, is much more sophisticated with draw than he is, probably the best hands down.... someone posted a deluna shot, guarenteed, what ever he can do, shane can and probably has more firepower in the tank as well.
Shane's game is so organized over the years, I think many have forgotten how nuclear his firepower is, but its that extra angular finesse i think he has that deluna does not, Ignacio is a major sicko as well, but im positive shane has them beat.
The other guy right up there too, still not quite as good as shane on the draw, but do not ever doubt his ability if it came down to a contest and that is Earl Strickland.
Earl, with a measle ball, can draw hook a spot shot, hit the side rail and then not only get passed the side pocket, but mike gullyassy who is Earl Strickland's cue maker, and I too play his equipment, told me that Earl got it back up table going towards the middle diamond of the end rail and stop the cue ball 1 ft away from the end rail.
That means he is litteraly hooking the draw past the first diamond on the side rail and with a ton of side spin, on a table with 4 and 1/8 inch pockets.
But to die short of the end rail though and of course that makes sense because when a true hyper power draw is executed, most of the stroke speed is going into the backspin which is what I call a thin hit, so the back spin revolutions are very high but the cue ball going forward in terms of miles per hour is slower and that is what you need to do to be able to execute it the way Earl did and I know for a fact Shane can do it as well because I have seen him hook draw half ball shot angles, which means you got to vertically backspin high rpm with a slower mph forward with the CB.
We all tend to line up a little thicker on those shots and add a touch of outside with the draw and then we need a side rail to come off of to get back up table to where we're going, it's one of the most user-friendly shots and pull that we all develop over time just by trial and error, it's a natural tendency in progression, but once you go down that route, and now have it ingrained in your visual and your stroke, it becomes extremely difficult to try to square up your draw because now the visual line will change and it tends to lose its reference point especially with the half ball shot because you're visual line especially if the shot is a hair thinner than a half ball, now references out in space and I myself have put over 3 years into it and still don't have a comfortable grasp on it because I believe the brain likes to shoot at something rather than nothing.... something to dig into.
Shane has no problem with it, same for Ronnie O'Sullivan, that's why they're games are better and more sophisticated, they got those extra abilities in the shot bag because not only can you hook draw shots with thinner angle relationships, but with that square draw, that's how you can really kill the cue ball when you're cutting those angle shots down the rail and so forth whereas low with the touch of outside and gear the ball down the rail, forget about killing the cue ball unless you kind of knuckle slow roll It but that makes the shot very iffy versus square draw with a slow to medium speed that can be consistent every time as long as you understand the different visual line and if that isn't enough, the more sophistication needed in your stroke awareness and delivery, low straight and acceleration, if one of those three are not met, you will miss the shot vs low outside, you can bungle it up three different ways and still make the shot or certainly threaten the pocket and maybe you miss out on cb position but you're still shooting.
For those that try to slip that line on you about low is the same as high and think of it in terms like that, is full of shyte.
Good top spin is another aspect for sure that most people and players don't understand because there was only one player that I knew of who was very sophisticated with the top spin and that was Nick varner... his ability to nail the high side of the cue ball and yet the cue ball adheres to the cloth as if magnetized, but he could also execute the ability while hindered over a ball or rail etc etc, lift that elbow and drop it with a perfect vertical swoop timing.
Efren Reyes didnt say nick was the best player he ever saw for nothing....thats Efren Reyes saying that.

I noticed you get more draw when cutting to the left, than when you're cutting to the right. It looks like you let your stroke out more when cutting to the left. Is there a reason for that other than maybe you feel more comfortable cutting to the left? If so then why was the accuracy better to the right? Maybe because you kept your stroke more precise by not letting it out too much? The reason for me asking is because I find myself doing the same thing. I try not to over think it, but I would like to fix my flaws if that's what they are.

@@kalhuggare01 - From a physics standpoint, the hardness of tip has no impact on how much you can deep screw back. Whether it's a medium tip or a super soft, if the tip is dime shaped, it should be able to hit the same low point on the cue ball. The idea that a softer tip "grips" the cue ball longer and thus creates more spin simply isn't true. Even when I didn't believe this at first, I did a test of doing a full table draw with my playing cue (super soft tip) and my break cue (hard tip). My break cue actually produced a full diamond more draw on average after about 10 attempts (with the difference likely being because my break cue is heavier, so it's naturally generating more power).
The reason it's perceived that softer tips get more reaction is because it's easier to apply a thicker coat of chalk to them. Chalk (along with a good stroke) is the biggest factor in creating friction between the tip and cue ball to prevent miscuing. A medium tip takes a few more swipes of the chalk to get the same desired coat as you would on a super soft. Other than that, tip preference really just boils down to impact feel. If you're getting better action with your super soft, it's almost certainly because of an enhanced confidence in your stroke because you like that tip better... which isn't a bad thing!

Comparing to golf a soft skin ball spins a lot more than a hard skin ball when hitting a wedge into the green! Pool balls are hard so only the tip can make a difference! Golf clubs are hard so only the ball can make a difference! Something must give when making contact!

@@kalhuggare01 - As I've said before, chalk and a good stroke are what makes the difference in draw shots. You should be able to pick up ANY cue with ANY leather tip and produce the same draw action if you chalked properly and hit the same on the cue ball. The hardness of the tip has no factor in generating any kind of spin. The only minor difference (besides feel) in tip hardness is deflection. When using side spin, a harder tip will add a little more deflection than a softer tip, which is why new lines of break cues are now going to softer hybrid tips instead of phenolic or hard tips so that you're more accurate on power breaks.
As for your golf analogy, that's an entirely different set of physics laws happening. For one, you swing downward into a golf ball with an open club face that has grooves, hitting a ball that has dimples. Also, at the speed in which you hit a golf ball, there's considerable compression on the ball, so a softer ball will compress more, thus allowing it to stay on the club face longer and spin more. When you consider most golf shots are hit well over 100 mph and most pool shots with your playing cue are hit under 10 mph, there's really no comparison. Simply put, a pool cue's tip will never compress to any kind of significant level to "add" spin.
You already said it best, you hit the super soft better so it's better for you... and that is all that matters. The reason I've gone at lengths to talk about this is because I wouldn't want you to believe something that isn't true and then tell others about it. If you've ever told anyone your super soft tip gets better action and others believe you, then misinformation starts spreading. I use the same tip as you (Kamui Black Super Soft), but I would never tell anyone it produces better draw because it doesn't.
