- Sarah Beeny presents a series following amateur property developers around the country. Paul Dare takes his creative development ideas to a Victorian terrace in Taunton, Somerset. The house has no square rooms, the roof needs repairing before a mortgage can be secured, and the makeover plans are ambitious - Paul intends to turn the lounge into a garage, wants a hot tub in the courtyard, and plans a sauna for the tiny bathroom. (Year: 2003). What happened to Paul? Paul says, "it was a great opportunity and I thoroughly enjoyed project managing the twenty-week renovation. Even more fun was working with the Channel 4 team and Sarah Beeny, who has a great sense of humour. The house became more than a project and became my home until the end of 2004". 20:00. A house full of network cabling is really obsolete now with wireless Wi-Fi networks being ridiculously cheaper than copper wires.
That garage door looks like a warehouse. How is anyone going to bathe kids in that insane tub when they have to straddle it turn on the water? I guess it's for acrobats. Games room? Hot tub? I doubt these are priorities for his target market. He's doing this to feed some playboy fantasy?
And the roll up garage door looked thin and flimsy. In Canada, looks like a big waste of heat for the house. Here, doors opening to the garage would have to be fireproof and self-closing, to keep exhaust and BBQ fumes out of the living area.
@@haweater1555 I'm in Canada as well and we would not be permitted to install such an ugly and flimsy garage door, not in my area anyway.
It's not a family home... no garden. (Of course, children growing up in Paris don't have gardens either... ). Bachelor pad.
Three MALE assessors of the house and not ONE noticed that the bathtub is totally useless for anyone but a gymnast who never cleans and has no kids?
The bathtub needs safety grabrails on the walls. Google StreetView shows that as of 2018, the garage door opening has been walled up with no window.
That's a crime!! The window he took out was beautiful. It SHOULD have been kept. Some people shouldn't be allowed to 're-do' houses.

This house needs immediate renovation following the reno this guy did to it. Alas.

After hundreds of these episodes (and other building shows), we all now know that The Build That Comes In On Time ... IS THE ANOMALY! (... So, Beeny, let's just stop pretending that On Time is the NORM!!) I think I've seen ONE show where the build was On time and On budget (and it wasn't this show!!). The one show HERE that came in on budget was a horrible piece of work. (Like the homework that's turned in on time ... but full of mistakes and poorly executed). I DO love these shows!
I do notice that people who have positive attitudes (even when it seems ridiculous from the outside) DO BETTER and have more success. As a very critical person (oh! You HADN'T noticed!?!?!), I have had to train myself in this direction. It really improves ones life. (The critical eye never goes away. It just needs to be channeled). These shows are so great and so informative in learning What Not To Do.
"Imagine sitting here on Christmas Day, in a hottub." I don't know about you, but there's nothing I'd rather do on Christmas than take off my nice clothes and ruin my hair and makeup by getting naked with the family.
