Hiring is broken. The skills needed to find a job are independent of those needed to do the job well. Because of this, good candidates get missed because of poor job searching and interviewing skills.

I don't know about your course but I do know that having a keyword optimized profile is a must.
I did a test a few years ago, I updated my profiles on linkedin as well as the other major job boards (dice, careerbuilder, etc) I then kept track on the contacts for the next 30 days. Total was over 3000 job contacts. I should note that more than half of them were for the same set of jobs which just drives home the fact that you need to track who is submitting you and where they are submitting you to!
Without updating my profiles, I tend to get a couple of hundred contacts a month. Though most of them tend to fall into the junk category, meaning they are not a great fit, they are out of my area, or they are looking for someone with less experience.

Amazing advice but its actually sad to hear that you can be the most qualified employee but you will never get hired to a decent job unless you have a connections in the company. Wish I knew this back in college but now I am pretty much screwed and I am actively looking for controller role in finance industry. Also, I have tried LinkedIn and the I have found that most recruiters just throw you at jobs where you are clearly not a good match and you even try to tell them but they force you to go to an interview where you waste your time.

I get messages like the ones you showed on LinkedIn occasionally, through third-party staffing agencies. They often include minimal details about the role, company, permanent vs contract, and compensation. How is the best way to handle responding?

The market is hot for remote gig screeners "recruiting partners" since this is mostly outsourced now for flexibility. I actually tried to get into this field on the automotive side as I spent several years hiring; onboarding; training for a major sit down restaurant chain. But without an "HR degree", all crickets. Ive had mostly great screeners but some are so bad its stunning (but they have an HR degree and were hired). Our hiring system is still seriously broken as no recruiter remembers you to call in the future! Then, when someone emails, they do not respond? I think these people are held to KPI metrics of required cold contacts -- with no real job! Frustrated!

omg when I switched my status to looking I get about 2-4 recruiters messaging me a day it's honestly overwhelming with the interviews, and some I do turn down.. Should at some point I turn it off while I'm still looking as a courtesy, and only if what I sift through after interviews turn it back on? I've received no offers yet, only 1 of the 5+ companies I've interviewed with so far did I actually really want the job but wasn't offered it. lol it happens, but I can attest to the better luck when recruiters reach out to you, though I am most certainly sick of telling my story over and over.

In a previous video about lying on your resume, you mentioned that different companies have different job titles for the same job so it’s ok to change your job title to match what that specific company calls that position so that you match what they’re looking for.
    My question is …
What do you do about the LinkedIn information if you’re submitting different versions of your resume based on the company your applying to and now some resumes submitted won’t match up with your job titles listed on LinkedIn? Wouldn’t that discrepancy be an issue making the employer now question the accuracy of everything else?

So many recruiters contact me for product management roles without even looking to see if my background fits the job. Quite annoying if LinkedIn elevates my profile more if I respond to them. I shouldn't have to if the job doesn't even fit. And I can't believe how many contract jobs they try to peddle when it's an employees' market.

I had the same experience. My background/experience is mostly white collar (with the exception of when I was a student). While job searching I was reached out to for a role in janitorial at a school 😂. There’s nothing wrong with being a janitor at a school, however my background is in legal, healthcare and healthcare insurance, so there’s nothing in my employment history remotely indicating I have prior experience as a janitor or housekeeping. I swear they just reach out to any living, breathing person without looking at what their actual experience is.

Note to recruiters for the HVAC industry: a van, upad, phone and uniforms are not benefits they a standard things to do the job.
