That's correct. To determine the winner of the trick, use the following order: Trump suit > Lead suit > any other suit If both players play the same suit, only then does the higher value come into play. And in your example, the first player wins the trick based on the rule that your opponent MUST follow the same suit if possible. Since they didn't play the trump suit OR match your lead suit, the person who led the trick wins. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and don't hesitate to ask if any other questions come up! Also, we recommend checking out The Fox in the Forest Duet if you're looking for a cooperative version to play with your daughter. 🙂
thank goodness for this video, I read the instructions book three times and still had no idea what was going on. I think the instructions calling things trick, lead, decree, trump, etc make it harder to understand.
@@marlaabe7254 in the Fox and the Forest, after all 13 cards/tricks have been played the round ends, depending on how much tricks were won, the two players will get a range of victory points. The numbered tokens are there to keep track of the overall score round to round. The game end is triggered when a player gets to 21 points
You only change the decree if a card's ability let's you change it, like with the Fox card, or if another round is needed for a player to reach 21. In this case all the cards are gathered, shuffled, and dealt.
It shouldn't really be possible to get through the draw deck since you only use those when playing the Woodcutter and exchanging for a card in your hand. I've only played this game once, three rounds, but we didn't draw from this at all except to make this exchange everytime someone played a 5.
So if two 9's are played, the abilities of both are neutralized, since the ability reads "...with only one 9...". Which means no abilities happen and the person who played a 9 of the trump suit would win. Otherwise, the leading suit 9 would win. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and commenting!
So my daughter and I are just starting today!! We've already come back twice to this video!! Thanks so much ♡
Also what happens when the two players get the same card, both a 3. That doesn't match with the decree card? Does the lead card win?

This was such a great tutorial, concise and told me all I needed to know. Thanks :)
Thanks a lot Kirsten! Glad you found it helpful.
thank you for the excellent explanation of the game.
Thank YOU for this excellent comment 💙🧡
Helped explain it better then other videos.
Do you keep the winning tricks face down so it's harder for a player to count how much of a suit or a number has been played?
I don’t know what to do with all of them tokens, are they just for scorekeeping?
Great explanation, thank you. Just away to play this with my daughter, so here goes 😊
My pleasure, thanks for watching! Hope you have fun with it!
Did a great job of explaining this. Didn't have to even watch twice. Thank you.
Good video. Very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you 😊
You're welcome! Thanks for watching :)
Do you still play the odd numbered cards the same way you play the even numbered cards?
Yup, great tutorial. My dad has always loved trick card games, so this should be fun for us. Cheers.
Our pleasure! Hope you enjoy it! ☺️

but what are the tokens for?
Tracking victory points after each round
score idiot
@@BlueTorchWeddings I have no idea what this means.

Thanks very clear!
This game is almost the same as "Briscola" a very ancient and popular Italian game
Also reminds me of a card game "Mattis" that we play in Norway!
Do you have to follow the cards ability when a fox is played? Or can you chose to just play it as a three?
Since it says "you may..." we always play it as optional.
Great teach!
Do you have to change the decree card with every turn? There's not enough for 13 times. Am i missing something?

What if you have a tie both not of the decree suit?
The leader wins
So if you win with a 7 it counts at two points right?
2:23 if I have a bell card but it’s a 4 when a 6 is down can I lie and say I have no bells and put down another card to try and win?
Unfortunately not, that would be cheating
Wait whatbdonu do when someone plays matching even card and neither are the "trupm" suit
The lead suit takes precedence.
When you get through the draw deck are you supposed to shuffle those cards?

how can you have 21 points after 3 rounds, if the max about is 18 points for the 3 rounds....?
where did you hear the word three? You play rounds until you have 21
Points are won when someone plays a 7 and wins that trick, too.
games alright
I don't get the trump explanation, the 4 would have won over the 8 anyway as the lead right? How is that different?
dead post but to explain, if neither card fits the trump suit, the lead card wins (if that's what ur talkin abt)
Sounds like spades
It is similar
