If the company policy is to not use AI, this forces users to be "CLOSET AI users". As you mentioned BYO-AI is being done but in secret. I have a bad feeling this done a lot. Many traditional companies think gen-AI is a bad thing due to incorrect info and threat to security. But actually it is doing the opposite. The Closet AI users will be more of a security threat as proper ai filters will not apply to such a closed system.

Very useful surveys, and benefits are accruing to companies.
    1. Less time on repetitive tasks frees up brains to work on higher value work.
    2. Higher quality writing and presentations improve customer relations, sales, maketing and internal communications.
    3. Brainstorming is faster and easier leading to more innovation.
    4. Stop draining power users' time. In every company, informally power users spend time fixing other employees pivot tables, OS settings, access problems, formating and styling issues in docs and presentations, etc. None of this is measured, but it is a significant burden. It is an invisible tech and app support system. Gen AI can help people help themselves!
I have measured this 4th issue for clients and it is shocking how big of a productivity drain this is for the power user, and a necessary system to keep work moving for everyone else.
I have been asking Gen AI users if they use it instead of bugging power users, and so far, they love it. They can figure out these ad hoc issues on their own!
All the above acrue value to the company. They are not measured, never have been. But it is real.

I think it actually has some unseen benefits that the hype and furore is dying down. It means people are becoming used to the idea of having AI in the loop. It is becoming expected and integrated.
