I am sorry I don't want to sound like a hater ,but I thought I would just correct you ,the law you talked about was Newton's first law of motion and not the first law of thermodynamics which is the conservation of energy "energy is nor created nor destroyed ,it's conserved" and the video is great.
no. I grew up mixed race in china, and have been accused of both "asian fishing" in the US and for appealing to western appearance in China based purely on how i naturally look as a Wasian. I do not wear makeup, and i wear very neutral and minimalistic clothing so my appearance is seldom indicative of my racial or cultural background. There are countless things about my appearance I have NO control over, and I often get grouped with the same people online who are trying to appear as a race that is not their own. My main point is, race cannot be altered. Cultural experience and connection can be altered in my opinion, but literal race- no way.
It's also weirder when you don't do your research. I look Asian to many people. I say Asian because I've heard it all in my life. From Korean to Japanese to Chinese to Taiwanese even to Filippino. And I look at them in disbelief because I'm neither. I'm part Ukrainian/Russian (my mom was born in Donetsk and my granddad was born in southern Russia) and Italian (I was born in Italy and my dad is 100% italian). I can't imagine someone wanting to claim an Asian face using my picture. Despite I make it very clear to people I'm Italian. Due to my name and now second surname it's a mess for me. People don't understand where I'm from because my name is Nikita. And weirdly enough Italian people think I'm not of Italian origin (unless I walk around with my dad who I'm a copy of) and the cashiers at Russian stores think I'm Italian as they always reply to me in Italian. Come on, my Russian isn't that bad! It's just a mess all around. I forgot to add the most important thing. Thankfully not many people are interested in me. Otherwise I feel like I'd be perfect target for insults. I can't help the fact I got my dad's almond eyes and he's Italian. What I'm trying to say is people might associate me to RCTA people or think I'm trying to look Asian and asianfish when I'm not. That's just the way I look. I've always looked like this. I haven't had any face altering surgery. I just look like this.
There is nothing wrong with getting to learn about a different culture or race but you trying so hard to turn into that race or culture that is pure madness 😂👀👀 Lots of love from 🇿🇦🇿🇦❤❤
As a white person who has spent more than half my life learning about, enjoying, and appreciating other cultures-- it's a no for me. I wish these kids would just enjoy the fashion and food (which is all they are really doing) instead of thinking they need to become an entirely different person. And honestly, you can't convince me it's different from "transracial". RCTA is appropriation at its most immature. It's kind of just sad.
True, like I'm white and I appreciate china and it's culture but there are other ways of doing it than changing your race I (for exemple ) decided to go to the university to learn more about it . You can also travel ... There are many ways I feel like , as Asian culture is getting more known, these white teenagers think it's "uncool" to be white ( When in facts we grew up with privileges and don't know how lucky we are )
I think the only good example I heard of transracial is being an child being adopted by a family that is not the same race/ethnicity as the child. It's interesting.
I agree. My entier childhood I enjoyed other cultures food (my whole family did). I also traveld and learn about thees cultures, maybe I start learning some new languages. I also ejnoy the the fassion and Kbeauty products. Also I like kpop which makes it even worse bc lot of people associate it whit this behavior. But because of thees people i somethimes feel emberesed to mention thees thing cause i dont want people to see Me like thees weird obsessed people
As a Vietnamese person, it’s always gotta be east Asia , they forget other parts of Asia such as India, they only focus on east Asia cause of the aesthetics and ignore what actual Asian people people look like, NOT ALL ASIAN PEOPLE LOOK LIKE KOREAN POP STARS.
Glad my the south and south east asian brothers didn’t get attacked 💀 broo that would be so wack af if someone told me they switched up to being filipino
As a Korean person, NOT EVEN ALL KOREANS LOOK LIKE KPOP STARS OR DRAMA ACTORS, ppl are copying the tip of the iceberg and ignoring the rest, which is so hilarious af
For me, it's kinda suspiciuos the fact of the RCTA only aplies to "popular races". My point is, i never see a person tries to be jewish, for example. The RCTA is so along with the fetishation of certain cultures. I love your videos Zoe
I totally agree with that one, especially when you look at how they even portray these “popular races”. Like japanese people are defined by watching anime and koreans are defined by listening to kpop. I mean in the videos Zoe showed us they literally said things like “I want to be Korean because I like kpop”. That sounds so stupid to me I can’t put it in words.
I think judaism is a bad example because it is a religion and if people don‘t want you to you won‘t notice it And there are people who convert to it (which is totally possible) for wrong reasons imo I just got to talk with someone who converted because they felt connected to „the fate of the jews“ which sounds so strange to me
@mynewworld1357 Judaism is an ethnoreligion: a group of people united by a common religious, ethnic, and cultural background. It's why the Holocaust was so horrifying; Had Hitler been successful in his goal of committing genocide against the Jews around the entire world, there is no way the Jewish heritage, culture, traditions, and even languages (Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino, Judeo-Arabic, etc) would've been passed on. Judaism is an ethnicity, race, religion, fate of one's birth/family (if someone has only one Jewish parent, if you were raised Jewish, if you were adopted by a Jewish family and raised Jewish), an entire nation of people (Am Israel or the People/Nation of Israel; some nations like Russia, Germany, and Spain treat Jews as a national group separate from their own), and a culture that even have their own subcultures based on where they went to in the Diaspora and how they carry their traditions and even some traditions specific to their group (Ashkenazi; Sephardi; Mizrahi; Beta Israel/Ethiopian Jews; Indian Jews such as Malabar Yehuddim/Cochin Jews, Bene Israel, Bnei Menashe, and Bene Ephraim; Central Asia's Afghan Jews and Bukharan Jews; Chinese Jews such as Kaifeng Jews; Crypto-Jews; Italkim/Italian Jews; Greek Jews such as Romaniote; Georgian Jews and Mountain Jews from the Caucasus region of Eurasia; and so many more). While Jews can also be of other races and ethnic groups, all of them (sans Jews by Choice [converts] who have zero Jewish ancestry but have gone through a rigorous conversion to join what is called The Tribe, that they are considered fully Jewish) contain Jewish ancestry. There are atheist Jews, secular Jews, and observant Jews; All of them are still Jews, whether they are religious or not, because ethnically, racially, and culturally, they are and were raised Jewish. Sometimes people do convert to Judaism for the wrong reasons and some people do pretend to be Jewish for wrong reasons; Most people convert because they have, what's believed, a Jewish soul. Meaning it is believed that the souls of the JBC's were at Mount Sinai, along with all the other Jews (past, present, and future), when G*d gave Moses (Moshe in Hebrew) the 10 Commandments, and that by converting to Judaism, they are more or less returning back home and to the Jewish nation. How they found their way to Judaism is an indiviual story. The Jewish people have been around for thousands of years with a long, complex history and peoplehood. There's certainly more to Jews and Judaism than being only a religion, but it's really interesting to research and learn more about!
It is so weird/surreal growing up being bullied mercilessly for being Black and Korean/Asian and now seeing people cosplaying as a Korean or Black/Brown or even racially ambiguous to appeal to the trend gaze. The irony is 💀 I’m not mad, I am very happy my daughter is reaping the benefits of all her beautiful ethnicities.
Yt people played every race for decades then to turn around and say they like their culture and want to "be them". While still insulting other races. Basically they just like the trend of it. Almost as if others are fun games to them.
I remember the school I went to in elementary was over half Asian, and yet I (and another girl) still got mocked for being East Asian. The whole "why do you have slanty/squinty eyes" thing. >.< It's because the "Asian" statistic is so broad, most here are Filipino and a lot do not have the monolid (some do), so just having monolid will be a marker for being targeted for bullying in childhood. Thankfully it never got worse than that after elementary. Unless you count one kid in middle school (white) who kept making fun of my last name which is Chinese (but I like to think he was not doing it for racist motivations, just to be annoying).
i’ve been waiting for this video because how is my authentic race something to be bullied for but on other people it’s a cute trend? it’s such a kick in the teeth to the years of oppression people have to go through
You know, I just think that some people have too much free time. Especially those 13 and 14 years old. Try going to a korean school. Let's see if you still want to change your race.
@@slavvalb3933 but thats way more common today bc of how the teenage socialization happens more in a digital world than in the real world. Teenagers spend like 80% of their free time online, which did not happen before. They are exposed to virtually any type of discourse online. And when your identity is not quite yet settled, anything you can grab on to feel acceptable and value will do. They are forming their identities and their perceptions of reality based almost solely on what they learn online abt the world. Its like Plato’s Cave Myth on steroids! And honestly, I know teenagers eventually grow out of these phases, its been like that for decades, but what worries me now is how people are sometimes making permanent alterations to their bodies and even putting their health at risk in order to pursue these desires to be someone else (which is guess its also nothing new, but you get what im saying)
Exactly. I don't think they can handle the idea of weekend classes either or cram school. And literally having no time for things like dating. And being graded on actual performance over effort. In my schools in USA it was 90% of the grade on "effort" meaning just turn in your homework even if a lot of the answers are wrong and you fail all the tests, you still can pass. That wouldn't work in countries in Asia like Korea I'm sure. Not to mention if their parents were Asian, it would not be so much "permissive parenting" that is all the rage in America today, they'd actually have rules and discipline and punishments... When it came to school, I failed with Ds and Fs in a lot of classes in American school because I didn't always finish homework, even if I got everything on tests right, I still failed because homework. Then I transferred to a school without homework and got straight As and Bs (but it's not that I got everything right, I just did the classwork, earned credits, and behaved). That's just how reliant American schools are on "turning in homework" as the defining grade changer. I've been reading and hearing about how the problem in US schools today is that a lot of schools do not teach Phonics anymore, leaving many 17+ yr olds unable to read... So basically we have a whole generation or two of people who barely even learn non-verbal English, they're illiterate. It was one thing to remove cursive which is whatever, but to remove phonics?? We're going to have generations of illiterate people. I am hoping they go back to teaching proper phonics ASAP. Because my niece is about to enter school... American school system is just really messed up.
ahhh this is so true, I am Korean, sometimes I hate being here, but then I'm like, meh we should all be grateful of what we already have cuz the grasses are always greener on the other side ;)
WHAT- Omg ur English is SO GOOD, may I ask how long did it take u to learn English? And I respect u guys, my school and country overall doesnt have many ppl of colour (mostly some Bosnian ppl (btw I'm Russian) and Slovenian ones) and we have like 3 black ppl and one Asian girlie who I didn't talk to but shes a bit younger than me and damn I js wish and hope that her life is good cuz I appriciate cultures
Especially when the focus of teasing was usually about our eyes, then now they specifically want our eyes of all things... I remember in elementary school it was me and another girl who were both half Japanese, and we had to defend our eyes from other kids (who most were also Asian but not Japanese), by saying that our eyes are droopy and not slanted lol (I do have down-turned eyes in reality though).
Coming from a white person (southeast European) who’s lived their whole life in a very densely Korean and Indian-populated city in the US, the entire RCTA community makes me so freaking disgusted. It’s incredibly disappointing how the complex, intricate, and _not always sunshine-and-rainbows_ cultures of so many of the people I’m close to have been completely bastardized and reduced to what certain people only want to see of them. I’ve noticed that so many RCTAs cherry-pick the tiny, easily-romanticized parts of these cultures and adopt them exclusively (e.g. K-pop, fashion, etc.). The notion of “changing your race” is already gross and fetishistic in and of itself, but the way these people refuse to see any parts of an entire culture beyond its “best parts” makes it yet worse.
I appreciate a lot of Asian culture. I have a Korean skincare routine and enjoy a lot of Asian (Korean, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, etc) foods but I think it would be disrespectful to try to change my race. Not only is it disrespectful towards actual Asian people, but also to all of my European ancestors.
i feel the same way. i deinitely appreciate asian culture, and personally i think culture is an amazing thing, but changing ur race is so disrespectful. literally to pretty much everyone (except yourself ig)
Let's leave the identity and society related debate aside. RCTA community is, first and foremost, BLATANTLY UNEDUCATED. You CAN'T change your race/nationality by desire and watching/listening to something. These people lack BASIC KNOWLEDGE. Such blatant holes in RCTA's worldview is one of the most baffling things about this phenomenon. I hope these teenagers grow up and understand how biology works This text sounded aggresive which, just in case, I did not intend it to be. Just felt the need to express a certain thing Zoe hasn't touched on in this video
Totally agreed. And your words are in no way aggressive, you are just stating facts. One cannot change their race or any other phenotypic traits given by their genes, but rather try to mimic the desired traits. Is it bad? No? Are my words offensive? No? Should we all pretend that there is a way to change the biology and the genes that we were given? Also no. I'm all in for people to express themselves, but i get the feeling that we are now in a VERY dangerous delusion zone.
@@iqa1705 well they'll have to learn one day that they can't change your physical features and nationality by wanting it very hard and watching videos. I think they're just teenagers who haven't got hit with reality yet, and most of them will grow out of RCTA inevitably
I think this is really creepy and disrispectful towards the culture of the certain country. I mean, there's nothing wrong about learning about an other culture but trying to turn your race into that is just-
especially if you only know certain limited aspects of that culture, like loving kpop and wanting to be korean, there is sooo much more to any culture than mainstream media stuff
They don't have any interest in the actual country, language, or ethnicty anyway. They only care about the specific pop culture and aesthetic they like. I've never met Japanese wannabes who care about mainstream J-pop even, they only like anime or idol-pop specifically, sometimes j-drama (if it's based on a manga/anime). And they want to look "Japanese" only because they see the extremely narrow representation of Japanese people online, which is heavily filtered or photoshopped with extra bright lights to drown out the real Japanese facial features (like nasolabial crease), so they think if they "become Japanese" they can achieve this aesthetic which is not true. They've most likely never seen real Japanese or Asian people in person. It's a racist cartoon charicature, really, that they want to become. I am half Okinawan, so when I say I'm part Japanese to them, they freak out but then they don't know, that Okinawans are darker skin like South East Asian complexion, also there's less anime than Tokyo, which they obviously do not like (because they're extremely colorist/racist and only like the unnatural ghostly pale faces they see online which can only be achieved by skin bleaching or filters, and they can't live without obsessing over anime). I have a white friend who does online roleplay in a group that roleplays as Geisha and Maiko, and I think this is fine because they are only using this specific dedicated group or time to role play being Japanese Maiko, but they never claim to be Japanese in real life, and they obviously dedicated so much of their time and energy to learning about Kyoto traditions even more than I have (I was born in Japan and lived for over 5 years, and mom's family lives there), so I have respect for those who really do go out of their way to learn about the actual country and history and are very respectful of the culture and not just aesthetics. I remember meeting a Japanese guy online (in his 40s) who, even though he liked anime, said he was relieved that I was interested in the traditional culture of Japan, because he knows so many people just like Japan for anime.
A lot of people falsely conflate every fkn ginger to Ireland…like people all over earth can be ginger and they’ll deadass tell a Chinese ginger or a Mexican ginger or WHEREVER because gingers can exist in all races: “Oh, you must be Irish! They must have mixed from somewhere down the line!” Yet somehow it only appears in 1/12 children like everywhere on earth. 😅People even do this with ancient 6th century people in like…Greece or Rome and go “Ahh he must be a Celt then!” like no dumbass, he’s a ginger. They’re not all gingers.
I love travelling to new countries and cultures but changing my RACE so I can be like that culture is no for me. Eating there food and putting traditional clothing is one thing but changing my hole indentity is another.
i’m 15 (almost 16) and i only really use youtube, discord and twitter (but only on my private account) and i am so blessed i have never met any people like this ☠️
I'm 13 and use just YT because it's funny,if I use Insta is just because I want to talk to my classmates in another way or for writing a message to my fav singers...
thats genuinely so great for you!! keep it up, don't fall under the social media trap, it only makes everything worse. its great to see that there are still teens who arent js obsessed with social media as well. im around a similar age, but I've fallen under the trap of social media u could say, lol. although i try not to use it too much. anyways yeah its kinda crazy the whole RCTA situation
as a person who is a mix of Korean and Indian, I was shamed in the pandemic and randomly RCTA’s started going to me and telling me I’m so lucky being Asian like what 💀 but I don’t understand how people went from hating Asia/East Asia to immediately loving it
Thank you so much for your hard work and research on this topic ❤🎉😊 for me as an Asian , its kinda weird to see it, cause i still remember Corona Rasism 😢
@@Skibidirizzteam can i politely ask why u are an rcta? i js personally see it as disrepstcful, so i'd like to see an rcta's opinion on it. not in a rude way, js politely curious. thanks! 😂 I am of Austrian / Russian ethnicity, and I am proud of it 👍. I say to those who want to change race , go get a job on your own without your parents getting one for you or paying everything for you . U have too much free time and money in your hands . Do so something good for this world , ( i.e. go save an animal from a kill shelter )
I'm Vietnames/black and ,so proud some people always say your so lucky. But some people told me "you are a monkey eating dog😭" that's why I always felt weird about people being rcta or idk

Point out if I'm wrong but I remember hearing that the term Transracial was meant for cases of adoption where the child of one ethnicity was adopted into a family of a different group (eg. Asian kid to while family) Also the term Deadname is used in trans communities to refer as their birth name which they want nothing to do with since it no longer reflects who they are and can have very hurtful memories and associations with. The idea of a Face claim I believe comes from online Roleplays, where you choose a CELEBRITY (not just someone off the internet) who's pictures you'll use for the roleplay. (Since in Live action roleplays you dress up as your character, but online you can't really do it/ online roleplays assume a lot of anonymousness like not sharing your real name or even where you live. Ofc I'm sure there's plenty of varying degrees to which this goes to. )
I went on for a bit more than I was supposed to lol but hopefully this helps shed some light onto the terms and ideas that these misguided teens have taken and bent to fit their delusion
Unironically Snooki is the greatest example of someone who's transracial. She's Chilean and was adopted at a very young age by an Italian Americam family who passed her off as one of their own. She had no idea of her Chilean heritage until she did a DNA test in her mid 20s. Her family basically lied to her and adopted her specifically because her features were ambiguous enough to pass for Italian.
This reminded me to when being latina was trendy. honeslty as a latina born and raised in latin america that was really weird to see but it did not go as far as this trend and thankfully was forgotten quickly
What bothers me is that with all these trends on social networks, it gives a super negative image of those who are interested in Asian culture and who have not asked for anything. For me who listens to kpop and who is interested in Korean culture, people now see us as crazy obsessed without limits because of these young girls ready to change their identities, which I find very sad. Let’s appreciate who we are instead of wanting to change what is impossible to change!
It's like being bullied for the lunch you bring to school and the same ppl 20 years later are like, "omg I love Chinese food, Panda Express is so good!"
I remember this. I would tell my classmates as a kid about how I liked sushi and octopus in particular, seaweed too, and everyone was so grossed out by that, but now as an adult, everyone my age seems to really love sushi and treat it as a gourmet delicacy (I feel like that's why sushi is sooooo overpriced today not only from inflation) even octopus isn't gross to them anymore, and seaweed snacks are very trendy.
Referring to 9:04, I just want to say that name changing is not unique to the race changing community. it is also a practice used by trans communities. It can also be done for security reasons or to escape an abusive past (which can be familial).
I always get so much out of your videos, apart from rcta, when you said "your name - a gift from your family" it made me feel respect and sympathy for mine even tho I didn't really like it before! thank you!
I used have this phase, not gonna lie…they will leave this behind when kpop/anime will become too mainstream…back in the 2010s, they really used to be unique. And people crave unique. When they notice that now, everyone’s a koreaboo/otaku, they’ll change to something else. Also, being part of a community is super powerful and the kpop community is a real sh…
Exactly!! The feeling of belonging to a community is what I think is driving a lot of this behavior. You want to be accepted but also feel unique like the people everyone is admiring. But this is getting close to cult-like behavior, and when it gets to the point, no amount of logic is gonna be enough to reason with these people
Im an otaku since 2nd grade and now im a kpop fan. But i would NEVER change my race to Japanese or Korean. Like bro, learning their language and liking the food is enough. I dont need to change my race💀
"Transracial" was already a term. Specifically for adoptees of a differnt race from their adopted families. The way its been appropriated and mangled is harmful to the adopted community that tries to discus the difficulties of having a different racial identity from your family.
I think that the only way you can claim to be another nationality is if you grew up there. Like a white or black person born and raised in Asia could say they are Asian because Asia is their home and where they grew up. Same for the other races. That’s the only exception.
Also when any of your parents/nearest biological family tree descended from that if not literally change nationality with all the real administrative work either or both via naturalization (or Ius sanguinis/soli depending on the country, resulted in double-or-more nationality or apatride) or otherwise.
I'm European (german, dutch, some eastern european & (allegedly) distant asian) as a child I was teased & sometimes bullied for looking somewhat asian & nowadays it's a trend. I don't really see it in myself, but I can only try to assume how difficult it must be for "actual" asians. I don't believe race can be altered. However, I do believe there is something similar to "transracial" if children were adopted & raised in a different culture. If black children grow up in a white family for example.
i feeel you im north african and ppl bullied me and still sometimes do by pulling their eyes and callings me the c slur and seeing this as a trend.. blows my mind
Here in Italy we always find crazy how often people use the word "race" in english. We only use the word ethnicity, the fact that human races do not scientifically exist is pretty widespread knowledge.
Hey Zoe, great videos but when you were talking about the first law of thermodynamics in the beginning of the video, what you actually described was Newton's first law of motion. The correct statement of the first law of thermodynamics is actually that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only converted from one form or another. Mathematically, this is described as U = q + w, where U is the internal energy of the system, q is heat (transfer of thermal energy - kinetic, vibrational, rotational energies of particles - due to a difference in temperature), and w is work. On the other hand, Newton's first law is described mathematically as dv = 0 if Fnet = 0. Whereas the laws of thermodynamics are generally applicable to the study of energy, Newton's laws of motion generally govern Newtonian mechanics.
Okay but the subliminal community wasn’t like this it was all about getting more confident and self love etc subs it was a really positive and supportive community full of affirmation and all things as “I am healthy and I will heal” or stuff like that but now? What is even happening this wasn’t supposed to get to tic toc
I'm white. That being said, it's really sad to me people can't be comfortable in their own skin. I don't personally think you can just change your race. There's so many cultures, races, and ethnicities it's disrespectful to just dump your own mixed background. We need diversity, and everyone being different contributes to that diversity. You as one human isn't diverse. It's all of us that help make the beautiful, colorful picture.
An interesting case study from the early 1900, is Fritz Haber, a Jewish German scientist. Early on in his life he decided to stop being Jewish, to because fully German. He went to the army and worked for the government and really thought for a while that everyone agrees he is fully German and not at all Jewish. Until the 1940's when the nazi rose and he had to flee Germany, because no matter what, to them, he was Jewish.
Can I just add, that Oli London, at least in my opinion is not an influencer, they are and always have been an internet troll. When you put cornrows in your hair and sit in front of a black woman and say that you think that you can change your race, you know exactly what it is that you are doing. This person got tonnes of surgeries and then went onto and and every platform that would have hime to say that he "identified as korean", then a year later identified as non binary, the year later they identified as gender fluid, then a year later they are "de-transitioning", trying to sell a book, and using their social media to do right wing anti-trans grifting. He is just a troll, that got too much attention.
I think appreciating a culture and loving its traits (eg. Making Korean food, appreciating the fashion, and listening to K-pop) is a good thing, but claiming that you ARE Korean feels super wrong. You are just an American who loves Korean culture, it doesn’t mean you have the family history/pedagogy, context, or physical traits of a Korean.
I think that if you really like and appreciate a specific culture there are far better ways to show your appreciation and experience that culture like saving up to live in that country or something.
Bruh most people I've seen only want to be what races are 'popular' like u never see someone wanting to be from Madagascar or somewhere that not many people live in. It really discredits the people who actually want to live or study about a country and just labels them as RCTA ( btw I love ur videos❤❤ )
I think it’s really important to differentiate race and ethnicity in this conversation. Race ultimately is something made up whereas ethnicity relies more on looks usually. It doesn’t rile me up like crazy but as a black person it is indeed a bit annoying to see these (mainly) white girls partake while knowing that a black person would never even be taken a tad bit seriously if they said I want to be white / Asian / whatever now. People would just deem it impossible because I mean how do you want to erase your blackness… It’s just frustrating, privileged and really way too superficial
This!!! I had a lot of self hatred growing up as a brown-skinned little black girl. I feel like it's quite a universal experience to go through as a black woman in the west. There is NO WAY in hell I could ever be perceived as any other race as black.
in germany the same thing happened with (mostly) Turkish people. german teenagers from all german families started adapting accents(!!!!!!) it was insane
What's weird is people think I'm part of rcta community. I'm a half korean half american person with NO monolids and DON'T have black straight hair. That doesn't make me not korean. And what's even worse is that everyone, and i mean EVERYONE thinks that which is soooo annoying
As a ginger trans guy this rcta feels offensive. Like race is not something you can change. I can’t change my experience as a ginger with all the biological side effects. On the trans community we know that we can’t change biology as well. We might change our appearance but we know that our transition is more on the social construct wise with the dysphoria as an additional pain point. I used to say that being a transguy is not a roleplay.
As someone who is a mix of Korean and Indian, it’s crazy to me how suddenly Koreans/the surface level of Korean culture is now super popular to the point that people are wanting to be Korean. Like you can have the aesthetic and learn about the culture, but going so far as to change your race is absolutely insane. It also sort of disgusts me how only the “popular/aesthetic/stereotypical” Asians are usually the only ones being mentioned. When I tell people that I’m Korean vs telling them I’m Indian there’s completely different reactions.. I genuinely hope that this stops soon, or else gen alpha is really doomed 😭
my mother is 100% European or "second generation Australian" and my dads full aussie. even though my familys been here for generations i always kind of felt out of place with both my Australian family and my European family. with my Australian family i would say thing diffrently, do things diffrently or like things diffrent to them. with my European family its the same thing but sometimes we dont even speak the same language!! in that sense i can understand and empathise with not feeling like your cuture is your own BUT the actions that follow are inecscusable.

someone tell me if im in the wrong because i want to be better: im mixed black/white/asian and it just makes me uncomfortable. i felt bad when this "race change" thing became a trend because my whole life ive just tried to pass as one thing, you know? i just look like a tan skinned slightly asian person so ive always just told people im mostly white just so i dont have to deal with the issues i had before. my mom yelled at me and said "you're not asian enough to be asian and you're not black enough to be black" so i asked her if that means im white and she didnt answer. so i asked my dad if im white and he said no. im sick of people saying im nothing, so i just try to pass to be as white as i can be so i can feel like im not some weird "mutt" (as my old classmates had said) but i don't want to be one of those weirdo race change people either

Okay wow! I never expected to see a book of the month sponsorship on this channel. I associate botm with booktube only. Unfortunately for me, botm is limited to US.
I agree with a lot of other comments that this is really fetish-y (what the hell were the "tips for asian rctas" in the middle at 2:20 like 💀 thats just really bad weeb/chinaboo/etc shit) but also, this isn't new. People (especially Caucasian people) have been commodifying and disrespecting other cultures for at least as long as colonialism has been a thing, and I've seen several books (unfortunately, the titles escape me now) about how the desire for a "culture" that isn't dominant is just racism even though it might not seem harmful at first. This is just a modern refocus on the "white man's burden." Race might be a social construct, but the social consequences and benefits that are associated are very much real. Great video by the way! I really don't comment often but this was so compelling, I had to, even though this video is nearly a year old lol. Subscribed 👍
AGHHH BEING KOREAN-EGYPTIAN THIS FRUSTRATES ME SO MUCH LIKE JUST KEEP YOUR OWN RACE. I LOVE MY RACE AND I WOULDNT CHANGE IT EVEN IF IT WAS DIFFERENT JUST WHYY
I find it really weird that more than one person referred to their race being "American" (meaning the USA). Do they really not understand that that is a nationality? Sure, in most places the country is both the race and the nationality of (most) people from there, as in German or Japanese, but the USA is kind of a notable exception.
Im glad im not the only one who noticed that. Its shitty how not only do a lot of people associate being American with bring white only (despite the fact that America is extremely diverse), but that alot of people still dont seem to know the difference between race/ethnicity and nationality.
It may be a combination of being affected by trends, self-interest, and a lack of knowledge about one's culture. During the pandemic, watching shows became a common way to spend time, not to mention K-pop and anime went to their pik. Since people were stuck at home and only had the internet for entertainment, it’s normal they got obsessed with what they watched all the time. Not to mention Asian media are aestheticized, which may cause the fallacy that Asian culture or people are flawless or superior. Now there may be some people who have been obsessed with white skin since they were children or something; just as people color their hair, they may have preferred another skin color aside from culture or identity matters. These two combined may have caused them to want to change their race at the same time as being tired of racial fights or not having someone to teach them how important their own culture is.
As a black woman, seeing other black people (mostly young black girls) being apart of this is so embarrassing and disheartening to watch. Especially since there are so many rich cultures within the Diaspora. But, fetishizing an entire other group of people because of popular culture while putting down their actual race is demeaning and quite frankly 🦝 behavior which I hope they get once they’re older and more mature.
and the worse that unlike a white person trying to be asian or otherwise when a black person or arab person tries to be white or asian they insult their own race and sees then inferior to the race they are turning to,because mostly the rcta from black people or arabs or even if they are not from rcta the have that image that racist people make is in their mind because through history black people and arabs are the most targeted
you can note how kpop and from it start how it tries to copy the black and south asia (arab) culture but in the same time spread negative informations and stereotypes about us and some of them said the n word shamlessly and do black hairstyles that i understand why would a black person offended by another race wearing it duo to the history behind them and even dragging a black girl for wearing straight hair is very racist duo to the twisted history because of europe and america
When i was a kid between the age of 9-13 i live in japan. It was hugely influential in who i was and helped so fucking much with my social anxiety, i used to get so sooo sick when i was even near a small crowd of ppl or whatever. I also really admired and appreciated the culture. Because of this and more, I used to call myself Japanese as a kid until i had reality smack me in the face when i koved back to america. Afte i moved back i got severe depression and my anxiety got less social based more identity and environment based. If i learned about this shit as a kid i would have sworn up and down i was this (but then again i wouldve called myself a cat therian, not hate to that group as i find them real cute tbh). This isntme hating om this group nor saying i am/was this as I am not. I believe this is hidden in a form self hate as that was where mine lied.
I am also shocked and I think people who do such stuff are not a fan of a culture anymore they are obsessed with the (race) I’m not saying that people should not like the music, food oder language of a another country but every thing has a limit

Well, I'm kinda confused... I remembered that a couple of years ago Ariana Grande was highly critisized for cultural appropriation because her looks appeared to be more asian at some point. And people on the Internet were absolutely mad about this style-change. Now seeing this trend, it's really complicated for me to understand what's going on through people's minds. I am an open-minded person from Eastern European (born and raised here, continuing my life on the motherland), who truly enjoys western pop-culture in general. And this controversial topic/trend leaves too many questions in my head rather than answers...

It’s so creepy as well lol 💀 No one likes copycats.

I mean in the videos Zoe showed us they literally said things like “I want to be Korean because I like kpop”. That sounds so stupid to me I can’t put it in words.

@@mynewworld1357 oh, it's true, i haven't think of that. Thanks for the information :D

I'm half asian/half white, I like it NOW, because people compliment me call me "beautiful" or "exotic."

You know, I just think that some people have too much free time. Especially those 13 and 14 years old. Try going to a korean school. Let's see if you still want to change your race.
Agree totally. They have too much time and money in their hands, cause Mama and Papa get them jobs and pay for whatever they want .

Point out if I'm wrong but I remember hearing that the term Transracial was meant for cases of adoption where the child of one ethnicity was adopted into a family of a different group (eg. Asian kid to while family)
Also the term Deadname is used in trans communities to refer as their birth name which they want nothing to do with since it no longer reflects who they are and can have very hurtful memories and associations with.
@@avaariisisi I appreciate your comment, it puts me off how the terms "deadname" and "faceclaim" have been bent like that..
Yeah, that’s the only time I’ve ever heard of transracial. (It was in a book)
Zoe being incredible and so passionate for give us new content
It can also be done for security reasons or to escape an abusive past (which can be familial).
her voice..its sooo calming to hear!!!
I always get so much out of your videos, apart from rcta, when you said "your name - a gift from your family" it made me feel respect and sympathy for mine even tho I didn't really like it before! thank you!
Jubilee seeing the RCTA and Transracial communities 👀
0:48 Zoe I really love you but that is the 1st law of dynamics, not thermodynamics
@@_noonee_ong gang
"Transracial" was already a term. Specifically for adoptees of a differnt race from their adopted families. The way its been appropriated and mangled is harmful to the adopted community that tries to discus the difficulties of having a different racial identity from your family.
5:00 they're taking "Barbie, you can be anything" seriously
i feel like a lot of them have to be trolling... there's no way
I think that the only way you can claim to be another nationality is if you grew up there.
If black children grow up in a white family for example.
i feeel you im north african and ppl bullied me and still sometimes do by pulling their eyes and callings me the c slur
and seeing this as a trend.. blows my mind
cant believe we got people changing races before gta 6

That awkward moment when you are early for once so you wanna comment but you have no idea of what to say… Anyway love you zoe
Here in Italy we always find crazy how often people use the word "race" in english. We only use the word ethnicity, the fact that human races do not scientifically exist is pretty widespread knowledge.
that makes sense i’ve never really thought about it like that
Hey Zoe, great videos but when you were talking about the first law of thermodynamics in the beginning of the video, what you actually described was Newton's first law of motion.
This isn’t really the subliminal community. We still support each other and do affirmations. These are just the weird ass kids who infantilize races.
People will just look for any excuse to not be themselves at this point 🤣

I got a love your skin add right before watching this 😭😭
I think appreciating a culture and loving its traits (eg.
I know. I never see someone trying to be Indonesian, or Malaysian. They only want to be Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
the whole message of this video and the clips near the end with so many beautiful different cultures actually brought me to tears 💘
People would just deem it impossible because I mean how do you want to erase your blackness…
It’s just frustrating, privileged and really way too superficial
Agreed 💯
This!!! I had a lot of self hatred growing up as a brown-skinned little black girl. I feel like it's quite a universal experience to go through as a black woman in the west. There is NO WAY in hell I could ever be perceived as any other race as black.
Race are looks classified by ethincity which is dna.
As a half Japanese person I have people who do these things..try being Asian and you’ll see how it is
IT LITERALLY ANNOYS ME SO MUCH THAT "AMERICAN" IS A RACE... LIKE WTH?
I believe you can change your CITIZENSHIP, but your race/ethnicity whatsoever, damn craziness!
You can’t change your race, you can change your culture.
How i think of it
It's also somewhat sad how much they hate themselves to the extent that they'd rather not just become another person, but an entirely different race.
in germany the same thing happened with (mostly) Turkish people. german teenagers from all german families started adapting accents(!!!!!!) it was insane
It’s hard to tell if it’s dysphoria or a trend. Zoe’s analogy of the cardigan actually reminded me more of masking in ASD.

I'll go and learn ASIAN on duoling now. Bye great video
lmfao
0:12 is satire lmao but yeah “RCTA” and “transracial “ is ridiculous and race is not an “identity “ that can be changed
Tell that to Kamala Harris, she’s Pakistani in Indian and yet she identifies as black and tells everyone she’s black. 😂
This woman is just effortlessly professional and cool in her videos ✨😎
my mother is 100% European or "second generation Australian" and my dads full aussie. even though my familys been here for generations i always kind of felt out of place with both my Australian family and my European family. with my Australian family i would say thing diffrently, do things diffrently or like things diffrent to them. with my European family its the same thing but sometimes we dont even speak the same language!! in that sense i can understand and empathise with not feeling like your cuture is your own BUT the actions that follow are inecscusable.

someone tell me if im in the wrong because i want to be better: im mixed black/white/asian and it just makes me uncomfortable. i felt bad when this "race change" thing became a trend because my whole life ive just tried to pass as one thing, you know? i just look like a tan skinned slightly asian person so ive always just told people im mostly white just so i dont have to deal with the issues i had before. my mom yelled at me and said "you're not asian enough to be asian and you're not black enough to be black" so i asked her if that means im white and she didnt answer. so i asked my dad if im white and he said no. im sick of people saying im nothing, so i just try to pass to be as white as i can be so i can feel like im not some weird "mutt" (as my old classmates had said) but i don't want to be one of those weirdo race change people either
i deadass saw in a discord server (not trolling just wanted to see the chaos) n saw “don’t post pics w dark skin, people can be triggered by dark skin/tan skin! 🍡~” (not word4word, but extremely close)

Correction: the first law of thermodynamics is energy cannot be created or destroyed.

Be confident no matter what race you are. It will probably start trending next decade anyways… Don’t make race fast fashion.
But, fetishizing an entire other group of people because of popular culture while putting down their actual race is demeaning and quite frankly 🦝 behavior which I hope they get once they’re older and more mature.
and the worse that unlike a white person trying to be asian or otherwise when a black person or arab person tries to be white or asian they insult their own race and sees then inferior to the race they are turning to,because mostly the rcta from black people or arabs or even if they are not from rcta the have that image that racist people make is in their mind because through history black people and arabs are the most targeted
and also maybe this is why there is no rcta from black to arab or arab to black
you can note how kpop and from it start how it tries to copy the black and south asia (arab) culture but in the same time spread negative informations and stereotypes about us and some of them said the n word shamlessly and do black hairstyles that i understand why would a black person offended by another race wearing it duo to the history behind them and even dragging a black girl for wearing straight hair is very racist duo to the twisted history because of europe and america
