I try and never leave home without my headphones. - Some interpretations that came to mind: Theory 1: When two highly antisocial symbolistic characters are forced to interact, end up having a strange staring contest that ends up feeling oddly intimate, and then immediately distance themselves when things get too uncomfortable, both feeling overly exposed. Theory 2: G man was stimming to calm himself down since his only pair of headphones had just broke, and it's a windy/noisy day, but he can't leave do to work constrictions. He got excited seeing Gordon, a former client of his, so he tried to mask his atypical behavior as just a really neat song was playing, then realizing the headphones are smoking, isn't sure what to do, and so keeps stimming to calm down his nerves which are now more stressed than ever. Theory 3: G man was intentionally pranking Gordon, just to be creepy and gain a fleeting sense of power over the former scientist at the expense of his own dignity. Theory 4: G man can play music in his mind whenever he wants, the headphones are just for humans to not draw attention to him. Theory 5: G man can hear music, but it isn't a choice, and it's begun to cause him difficulties with his work relationships, so he wears fake headphones too accommodate, but he's smiling to mask the internal pain and fear he feels from the new symptoms. Theory 6: Gordon Freeman recognizes G man and wants to interact with him, but doesn't have a means to communicate, so trys to bond over a humorous moment, but then noticing the headphones are broken feels uncomfortable, gets worried he shouldn't be there, and goes away. - I love overanalyzing art, specifically because it helps to inspire my imagination. I like how the glasses have the same property as his skin, direct light actually makes it red and partially seethrough, just like how an ear or a finger would under strong and direct light.
