- It's Destro's time to shine in his own mini-series from Skybound! With Energon changing the nature of Destro's ambitions, the world is his for the taking! That is, if it weren't for a few obstacles in his way, including Cobra Commander and the Crimson Twins Xamot and Tomax!

Really digging the way Destro is portrayed here. Someone who’s in it for himself and doesn’t take crap from others. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for the Profit Director in this series.
I'm really digging the characterization so far!
Something I didn’t expect was for this to be, in my opinion, the funniest issue in the Energon Universe so far? Crazy but it works. I hope Destro keeps his flair for black comedy going forwards.
I concur that this is the funniest thing in Energon so far. Destro lying through his teeth about not having robot soldiers and the Crimson Twins arguing semantics with a soldier they killed one minute later just got me.
You make a good point of Destro focused on villains.
Woah. 😮 Astoria? It’d better be good. Interesting to add her. I wonder if they’ll give her a love interest.
Really curious to see if we get an Astoria/Powerglide team up in the future! 😂
@@Moonbase3 and have awkward moments until they realize the other feels the same way.
I really like the static between Destro and Cobra, reminds me of Starscream and Megatron.
Good call on the comparison! I like the dynamic as well.
I never would have guessed that Astoria was that character from Transformers; thanks for letting us know! The letters columns keep saying that the 80's cartoons are Energon's primary source of inspiration, but I apparently underestimated that statement!
I don't think there's been a bad issue in Energon so far, but Destro #1 was especially good! Loved Destro saying he'd play revolutionary if it drew a profit and the Crimson Twins nitpicking the history of decimations with a guy they knew they were going to kill less than a minute later!
Yeah, if the first issue is any indication, then I think Destro is going to be a really solid series. That part about revolutions drawing a profit really stood out to me as well, then threatening to turn the Prime Minister over to the people to see what they do with him - brutal stuff!
I'm sorry I know, there's a lot going on with this issue with the Crimson Twins, Destro and all that...
But all i can think about is them bringing Astoria into this. Talk about a deep cut...
Also is this a bad time to say "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide" is actually one of my favorite episodes of the original cartoon for how funny it is? ^^;
Seriously! It's maybe a more unexpected pull than Skuxxoid!! I was shocked!
And you know, there *is* something to those later episodes in terms of a "fun factor" with humor and silliness that I can appreciate. So I can respect it being one of your favorites. :)
Yeah, I was surprised to see Skybound bring her here into this. Too bad Powerglide isn't here in this continuity though Beachcomber was a surprise
Another fantastic issue into the Energon Universe and thanks for the great review! Your reviews enhance every issue by fleshing out details that could have easily been overlooked, so thanks for that!
I'm glad to hear that - thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Makes sense that the chairwoman of the board of Hybrid Technologies Corp would be at the arms fair. I'm glad Astoria is being used in this way as a business person.
Great review, thanks!
Thanks for watching! Astoria is a pretty cool addition!
One thing I’ve been thinking about is a possible team up between Cobra-La and the Quintessons. Since Pythona went to space to try to find Cybertron and Daniel Warren Johnson did say that Void Rivals would crossover with Gi Joe soon too I think she'll end up on the Sacred Ring first and with it seeming like the Quintessons will be heading there soon I think it’s possible Pythona could meet the Quintessons and this could potentially lead to an alliance between Cobra-La and the Quintessons to take down not just the Cybertronians but their other enemies as well like Cobra Commander, Gi Joe,the Agorians, and Zertonians.
you know I was thing that Pythona could run into some of the G.I. Joe latter space villains like the Lunartix Empire but your idea could be better, I could totally see a mini series for her character in the future.
I would love to see a Quintesson/Cobra-La alliance! That just sounds like a really fun idea.
@@mr.end-game711 I'm actually going to be a little disappointed if they don't do a Pythona mini series now lol
@@Moonbase3 and I also imagine Cobra-La and the Quintessons would plan to betray the other once their alliance is over.
@@deniseg9210 Betrayal is second nature to the Quintessons and Cobra-La well they'd kill any thing with a technological inclination, they're out to destroy Cybertron for no other reason then it's an affront to them personally
Love the bit on Snake Eyes V4. My personal favorite as well! Cant wait to see where this series is headed
Same here! I think it's gonna be good.
Moonbase, thank you as always for your content and information. This series is setting up a very interesting story. Looking forward to your future videos.
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching! This series seems very promising and I'm looking forward to covering it.
the iron grenadiers was my first thought when I saw the poster
You know, that could be it!
Although I know next to nothing about gi joe I always thought Destro looked dope with the metal face. Great video 🔥
Thanks! He's got an iconic look to him, that's for sure.
Energon Universe sari soon 🤔
That would be cool!
Seirra Gordo... I haven't heard that name since the G.i.joe Marvel comics...
It was nice to see it referenced here! They're pulling out all the stops with references in this issue.
@Moonbase3 I just realized... Destro is basically putting Iron Claw into power. Do you think we'll get any more G.I.Joe Extreme references from Skybound?
I'm not familiar with the series, but I know Iron Claw's design - that would be an unexpected (but fun) surprise to see him in his full 90's glory!
So freaking cool!!!!!!!
Pretty straight forward beats, but did you forget there were zero Transformers references in Scarlett #1? I don't think every book SHOULD have a reference, but I think I'm cool with Astoria Carlton-Ritz being involved. Heck, gives me hope that we'll see ALL the Hasbro humans re-imagined in this universe.
Yeah, I'm wondering if Scarlett will have any Transformers stuff in it as it goes on, or if it'll be the only series without that stuff? Could be interesting either way. And I'm cool with Astoria and more of the human cast of characters being brought in - would definitely be fun!
@@Moonbase3 Void Rivals tomorrow!
Day after tomorrow for me. Still excited nonetheless! 😁
The fact that machines seem to malfunction around Astoria, made me think of Circuit Breaker from the Marvel Comics Transformers for some reason.
I would love to see Circuit Breaker appear in the Energon Universe!
So I knew I recognized the name Astoria Carlton-Ritz, but I couldn’t place it. I figured it was some minor Joe character whose name I heard once in passing. But as MB3 said the name aloud I had a brainblast leading to a full war flashback to watching that episode (and the DR SMOOV parody).
As an aside yes that episode is terrible but has one of the funniest exchanges in the show. The ceiling of the Deception base is collapsing from a flood,
Megatron - “Soundwave! Activate the force field!!”
Soundwave - “WHAT FORCE FIELD??”
🤣 That's true, that part is pretty funny - really helped by the fact that they gave the response line to Soundwave! I do think that episode is one of those ones where Welker really brought his A game to the voice work - with Megatron in particular being especially strong. It's been a while since I've seen Smoov's parody for that one, but I kinda remember it... I'll have to go watch that again!
compared to Scarlet, Destro #1 is full of nods and deep dives. I still hold out hope of Sumdac Systems making a return to Transformers lore but dusting off one off characters is something Skybound has been known to do. I wouldn't be too supersede to learn that Cobra Commander hired Extensive Enterprises to attack Destro as a way bring Destroy back in line. I thought the bottom mask on the mausoleum scene of Destro's ancestors looks a little like Doomcock from Overlord DVD. Astoria being Chameleon is an idea, as far as I know Chameleon didn't paper in the marvel comic so it possible Skybound a reinvent the character but at the same time they have been very close too the toy line...so maybe. I did get a kick out Skybound using all the old Marvel locals like lands Darklonia and Sierra Gordo. From what research I have done on Darklon, he is effective in a fight but has not the honor that Destro has, could we see a future where the 2 find them selves fight each other?
I hadn't considered that Cobra Commander might have hired Extensive Enterprises! That would be an interesting twist!
I didn't recognise Miss Carlton-Ritz until reading on TFWiki that she's the girl Who Loved Powerglide :P
In fairness i've not watched G1 in WELL over a decade.
It's been a while since I've watched some of those episodes, too. Definitely feel like I need to brush up on them with some of these deep pulls.
@@Moonbase3 All but 9 episodes of G1 are vague to me.
Those 9 being those i grew up with on VHS: the MTMTE 3-part premiere, 3-part Megatron's Master Plan and 2-part The Key To Vector Sigma/War Dawn.
With the Combaticons now on Earth in the latest Transformers comics, I wonder if there may be some shady arms dealings between Swindle and Destro
Now there's a team up I never knew I wanted until this moment!
I’d recommend Dan Watters’ Sword of Azrael mini from a few years ago. Really fun read. I’d love to see that book’s artist Nikola Čižmešija get a chance to draw something in the Energon Universe.
Nice, thanks! I'll check it out when I get a chance.
Carlton Ritz from G1 season 2 is in the Energon Universe?
Uh, yeah?
Ohh Man i tought i'm the only one on this planet, who prefers Snake eye's Commando desing over his ninja one. I admit it that his second version is more iconic (and he was very cool in the Rise of Cobra movie), but i'm just not a fan of ninjas overall.
I'm cool with ninjas, but yeah, when it comes to Snake Eyes, definitely prefer the commando look!
Maybe Carissa Carr will show up in the energon universe alongside Skullgrin if all these noname charaters are used.
That could be cool...Dr. Burkhart appeared in Duke, so it's possible they'd bring in some characters from the Marvel Comics Transformers side as well!
Why is Destro’s face silver/metallic? He must be wearing some strange mask of sorts. I wonder why he’s wearing it.
Good point - I should have covered it in the video. It's a mask made out of beryllium steel, and it was a tradition in his family dating back to an ancestor who was forced to wear a steel mask as punishment for selling weapons to both sides of a conflict. Subsequent lairds wore masks to turn the punishment into a point of pride.
I love Astoria in g1 lol
What did you think of Destro putting himself in harm's way to save Astoria? Uncharacteristic.
It does sort of seem that way, yeah. But I think Watters explained it pretty well in the afterword of the book, with Destro being a romantic (in the several ways described by Watters beyond romantic love). I kind of think of Destro as having his own code and having a certain amount of nobility to him, despite how much of a selfish, backstabbing villain he can be. So saving Astoria doesn't seem too far-fetched to me.
@@Moonbase3 yo joe
I agree with liking the Commando Snake Eyes more than Ninja Snakes Eyes. I would prefer to Desert Snake Eyes. Black Snake Eyes irritates the adult in me.
Pretty sure you're the only TF fan who doesn't like the Girl Who Loved Powerglide. Baffled by your dislike of one of the most amusing episodes. So, I think you're just projecting when you're surprised a comic series would use Astoria. Besides, I think a team reinventing the shared Hasbro wourld would be foolish not to incorporate the various one-off characters, especially those that hinted at bigger things, like Astoria's powers or even Dr. Arkeville's mad science projects.
But, I could be wrong about everything I said too. Dunno.
No disrespect to anyone who likes the episode, it just doesn't do much for me. Even then, I can understand why people would get a kick out of it and can recognize that there are some entertaining things in it. I was mostly surprised to see Astoria since she's been so rarely used in subsequent fiction. But I agree with you, I think Skybound digging deep into those less used characters will help set the continuity apart and make things a bit more interesting!
