Epic Encounter: Be Amazed by What the Maasai Showed Us!

Embark on an epic adventure with 24 TravelSCHOOL'ers, made possible by the organization "Walking with Maasai" (walkingwithmaasai.org), as we explore the pristine Maasailand in Kenya. Join us on this exceptional encounter with Emmanuel, our Maasai guide as we delve into an untouched forest in search of hippos.
Guided by the Maasai, our journey took us through the dense forest until we stumbled upon a concealed hippo trail. With caution and curiosity, we followed the trail to a still pond where two massive hippos gracefully rested in the water. The sheer privilege of encountering such a formidable and wild creature on foot left us in awe, heightened by the realization that we were defenseless in their territory.
Standing at a safe distance, we marveled at the beauty of these magnificent creatures. The gravity of the situation became apparent as the Maasai, led by our guide Emmanuel, emphasized the need for absolute silence and stillness, highlighting the inherent danger of the encounter. Emmanuel, holding his spear, became a symbol of protection, though its efficacy in such a scenario remained uncertain.
This experience was an indelible moment in our lives-a raw and authentic interaction with one of Africa's most dangerous animals, the hippopotamus. The contrast of vulnerability and wonder in the face of untamed nature left an indelible mark on each of us.
