Love the trick with the green ink. It realy gives that old door look you mostly see in games.

Looking great, love the doors. Just FYI, the black on old iron is still iron oxide, but the oxide from forging comes out a nearly black dark grey, and is actually the source of the "black" in "blacksmith".

As a blacksmith, generally ironwork is turned black because when you pull a red hot piece of metal out of your fire, it oxidizes and forms "scale" on it, generally blacksmiths will then while the steel is still hot (but not glowing) coat it with some sort of oil or wax (beezwax and lineseed oil are commonly used now but are considered a traditional finish) this oil will burn into the porous metal and seal it, protecting it from rust for awhile. Also as others have mentioned ironwork generally comes out a dark grey almost black just straight out of the fire. But that really BLACK look was generally from some form of coating like the oils or such.

I bought reds, browns and grays from Vallejo to paint some AoS ruins, this might become handy when I start painting it.

Sorry if thats a noob question but did you prime it grey before applying so called base coat, or is a base coat some sort of primer?
Hey, anyone know where these doors are from? Is it from an STL? I'd love to print 'em up for my Gloomhaven campaign.
what do I have to do to get a list of citadel paints to match this process? I'm new to painting and worried about matching paints. I'm not going online for paints, and I'm not going to 15 stores to find what is now an inferior paint... is there anything I can do besides throwing it all in the trash?

I have no door models, I have no models that involve stone or wood or iron, but I do have tens of Tau that I know feel more capable of highlighting properly.
You mentioned matt varnish at the end, what brand or type do you use or might suggest?

Looks very nice. Question: did you mean VMA METALLIC Rust (71069)? VMA Rust (71080) doesn't look like that, as I just found out after I bought the colour to replicate the steps of this tutorial. Thank you!

Why not buy Dwarven Forge dungeon tiles instead? Wizkid walock tiles are garbage. You can get DF unpainted for less money.
