If Carl's standard for what makes a Christmas film is "there's snow in it" then I'd say "The Empire Strikes Back" is the best.

I enjoy the gift-giving as a young single man. I don't try to get anything expensive. It's just about noticing things throughout the year and thinking of people you love. That care and thoughtfulness is what I enjoy most about that. And I enjoy seeing everyone. Unfortunately, we weren't many for Christmas. The cousins were a no-show. But it was fun. Oliver Twist, the classic novel by Charles Dickens, has been adapted into various movies and TV adaptations over the years. It's a common practice for certain classic films, including adaptations of Dickens' works, to be broadcast on television during the Christmas season. This includes "Oliver Twist," although it's not inherently a Christmas story.
The tradition of airing such classic films during Christmas likely stems from their family-friendly nature and the general association of Charles Dickens with Christmas, especially due to his popular work "A Christmas Carol." However, whether "Oliver Twist" is specifically shown every Christmas can vary by region and broadcaster. It's not a universal practice but can be a common choice for holiday programming in some areas.

As a kid in the Netherlands in the 70's and 80's Christmas sucked ARSE. We didn't get presents because the gift giving happened earlier during the feast of Sinterklaas at the 5th of December, so Christmas was basically going to church, eating with family and being bored out of your wits as there was nothing on telly, except Christmas circus, religious programs and annoyingly cloying American Christmas specials and movies. And being taken to boxing day shopping in furniture stores. I still loath Christmas to this very day. Which is why to this day Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie ever. As are movies that take the piss out of Santa or Christmas in general.

Not that I didn't know this, but I was at a friend's house and browsed their Amazon Prime TV account for Christmas movies: hundreds of the movies are "Hallmark type" movies with titles in different variations of "Christmas prince/princess/queen/or insert adjective here referring to cheesey romance". The thumbnail photos of these movies are even funnier, mostly an overly saturated image of an early 40s woman grinning at the camera with her conventionally handsome male love interest at her side. It is hilarious. Do these have any unique plot at all, or are they all homogenous shiite using the narrative of Christmas/love/unity that comes with the time of year?

So I ask for things like shaving products etc etc I use the old style safety razors and the blades and biodegradable etc etc also the good thing is it spans a lot of income - the blades are not expensive but I always appreciate them 🙂 to the actual shavers which can be.

I've been "I don't want anything for Christmas" for a while so when I get anything it's quite special. I got a sloth neck warmer from my mom and it's very special, I really like it and appreciate it. She got it for me because I've been having a stomach issue that's solved with heat, and you can microwave this thing to heat up, so it's an incredibly thoughtful gift, it's a lot more special than if I asked for something.
Similarly, I've been taking care of my mom, cooking for her, all sorts of things, my cousin got me a cookbook a year ago and I've been cooking from it for my mom (And my cousin now and again) since then. It feels nice doing things for others and giving back.

This was great. Cheers lads. I ended up watching Die Hard & The Princess Bride, for Christmas movies this year.
I recall Princess Bride as a fairytale movie, which it was, but it's set during Christmas too. Peter Falk reading to Ted Savage, there are Christmas decorations in the room, out the window the street is decorated for Christmas. I'd forgotten entirely.
I think it's my new favourite Christmas movie, up there with Batman Returns.
Worth mentioning I grew up in the 80s myself, higher education through most the 90s. Great times for movies.! And 'they' really don't make Them like that anymore.

My favorite christmas movie is (if it counts, its definitely an edge case by the criteria we've laid out) "it's a wonderful life".
I could certainly understand someone saying that its too sentimental, but i find it very sincere in that sentimentality. Theres something about that movie, the acting or writing or whatever else that makes it able to pull it off. I find it really profound how george never gets what he wants but, by just sort of being a kind and righteous everyman, he ends up with everything a man needs. Its common to almost everyone, i think, not to appreciate the blessings we're constantly showered with. Perhaps its really more of a thanksgiving film in that way.

Not even sure the 80s had the highest quality, but there was a level of charm in so many 80s movies that seems to have gotten killed off by later decades.
I think it was just that 80s optimism. morning in America after the terrible night that was the 70s. Maybe we can have morning in America and Britton here again soon and shake off these lame 2010, 2020 blues. I'm tired of pessimism. Things are not perfect but there is hope for the future the evil woke empire is fading. The cancel wall is falling. Joe Biden can't love forever. Maybe 2025 will be the fall of wokeunism and we can have a late 80s early 90s style revival of optimism for the future.
