You obviously haven't heard a Cosworth DFV in full cry. Back in the day nobody particularly liked the Mazda. It was a great looking car but the noise was a painful screech.
@@thethirdman225 Totally agree with you on the Mazda, it was fascinating and interesting, then tiresome. Having said that a DFV is hardly melodic.
@@housey4297 I disagree completely but it does depend on the chassis. Have a listen to the gold Warsteiner Arrows in this clip from 0:15 onwards. Turn it up. If you can't hear the harmonics then you're missing out.

Those are classic Cosworth harmonics. I was brought up on the engines of the 1970s: Cosworth DFV, Ferrari 312B and T, BRM V12, Matra V12 and Alfa Romeo flat 12.

The C11 is incredible it sounds like a WW2 Fighter Plane as you can see as well there were some great Porsche 962 in this Race they won everything in the 80’s but they couldn’t stand up with the mighty Beast Sauber Benz C11.It was in it’s own Class back then.What a legendary Beauty

Yeah, it is. Mercedes didn't do that much to these engines after they changed to the M119. The turbos were not that big to start with but with two of them and some mods made from the original production engine, 720-730 hp was possible and 820 in qualifying (practice, as it was known then).
Group C was a fuel allocation formula so maximum power was not the object. Fuel efficiency and reliability were.
Well crossplane inline 4s are one half of a cross v8 so

Crossplane V8, V4(Aprilia RSV4) and crossplane Inline 4(Yamaha R1). Sound similar because of firing order and angles
Well the crossplane inline 4 is one half of a V8 soo, and the V4 aswell if I should say. It's pretty amazing that you can make a V8 sound from 4 cylinders only, big bang firing orders are cool

the mazda wasnt racing, he was just driving. i think when both drivers go to the edge, the cars would have been similar, speedwise.

the C11 was maybe the fastest prototype at la mans but the mazda was more reliable and efficient

Top speed 249 mph? How do you know that? It was never raced on a circuit where that was a possibility.
On the official Mercedes website they also say it can do 249 mph.

The Sauber handed the Mazda it's ass just like it did in the day. The Mazda was MILES off the pace of the Sauber and the sooner the fanboys do some research and realise this the sooner we can get all this adulation for a 1 hit wonder finished with. The Sauber was THE Group C car, the Mazda one of the also rans bar 1 Le Mans victory where is was still 10 seconds off the pace in qualifying.
But the Mazda was deccelarting.. They were not racing...

The c11 is in a different league it is that much quicker than the Mazda. It was an animal.

Skip to 0:20 to watch a Mazda get decimated.
If you observe carefully you'll understand the Mazda was deccelarting for the C11 to do a flyby cause the driver was doing a hotlap
basically the mazda backed off at the hill so the Mercedes could get more space and speed through the hill and the mazda wasn’t even racing anyway.
Game for the Merc, stayed for the spinny dorito.
