I have a 2025 Civic Hybrid Sport. Love the car, it's an absolute joy to drive. It's easy to understand why Motormouth and others have named it "car of the year." Honda, did indeed, knock it out of the park with this vehicle.

The hatch looks great! It just says Honda imo. I am starting to see more of these in downtown Toronto and the thing I noticed is that the car at night looks like it's got its high beams on. I see 4 lights on and get blinded by the lights they are so bright. Even my daughter mentioned it.
Was considering the Civic Hybrid but it costs way too much. Ended up with a 2021 Lexus ES300h with low mileage for a few thousand less, very happy with the Lexus.
You got lucky with that find. I HATE my 25 Civic Hybrid Sport Touring. I HATE it. I will never look or even consider a Honda again. Their cars are shite, and now I know why Toyota is Number 1 in the World. I looked, but could not find that car, I also was looking for that myself.
@@TheOtherKine which part do you hate? I ask because I consider switching from Camry Hybrid to Civic or Lexus IS ;P Civic Hatch is even more practical than Camry, and has nicer engine sound (Why Toyota engines sound so bad, not as bad as Ford Ecotec, but not as nice as Honda/BMW/VW).
@ Couple things I would add: the steering is heavy. And it's heavy because the front end is heavy. If you look at the balance of the car, the front end is heavier than the back end, so the tyre pressure is also the same, the front one have to have more air than the back - really dumb. Which makes the ride worse, when you hit bumps, you can really feel it hit hard, and lurch. The Bose is overrated. Sounds dull. Doesn't have the low end punch of a JBL in the Toyota.
@ The piano black bits in the car picks up dust and lint like there's no tomorrow. So stupid. There's a diagonal piece at the front end of the dash under the windshield - on hot sunny days, that thing reflects the heat right into your face! I was shocked at first, I had to figure out why my face was feeling the heat LOL such a dumb design.
Insane prices. I bought my 2018 WRX STI for $39,500 in 2018. I also bought a 2021 Mazda 6 in 2021 for $32,xxx.......now a normal Civic (not SI) costs more than either of these cars which are in a higher class. The Industry really needs to reset or they need to bring back affordable small cars cause I can't see how people will be able to keep affording a car. If not, the Government needs to really start investing more into public transportation cause I feels like in 10 years, the Civic will cost over $50,000 easily.
Kinda lost on your numbers because a Civic hatch starts at like $27K and the hybrid just under $30k. The sedans are even less. Anyone wanting deals on Civics or Accords should strike by tomorrow before the year ends lol. I bought a new Accord hybrid last night and got a good deal likely to help their end of year numbers as much as possible.
Test drove this vehicle, exact spec and color. It is quick and nimble! I have a 2018 Golf R DSG. This is a great Civic. Couldn't believe how smooth it was. Very solid feel.
You need the rear wiper because many times your driving in a snow storm in Canada. The hatchback lets you haul bigger stuff. The bright blue colour would be great for advertising something. The pricing is expensive but low depreciation so the real value is finding low cost purchase financing. What about the Mazda CX-30 with some of the best low cost financing.
Thank you so much for posting this. I test drove this car today and I love it. It's the first time that I've considered buying a car brand new Switching from a Nissan Leaf to hybrid as I'm tired of range anxiety and dealing with charging. This seems like a perfect upgrade for me. The toughest thing now is picking a color. I honestly can't decide between dark gray, red or blue. Help! Lol
Team Motormouth, I really like the idea of putting the Accord powertrain in the Civic. This high priced, FWD Civic would be more versatile and practical in a genuine hatch format rather than this sloping liftback. Toyota should take inspiration from Honda and stick the Camry powertrain in the Corolla. While they are at it, they should finally bring Canadians the Corolla wagon we need. 😁
Great video as always. I'm in the market for something like this, but I've ordered a Corolla Hybrid AWD for 5k less. I've noticed on mpg tests that the Civic struggles to hit it's numbers whereas the Corolla consistently beats them. The Honda does look much nicer though.
Honda sure improved their hybrid systems based on your review. Back in 2018, I test drove an Insight Hybrid. It was slow as molasses, poor controls, uncomfortable, and expensive at the time. Even the Honda salesman who rode along with me was making fun of the car and recommended other Honda models instead.
upgraded from a 2021 Civic base model to the Sport Touring Hybrid sedan in white! Love it. Such a refined car and a great improvement to an already winning formula
@ I have a 22 Sport Touring and it’s not an issue for me and shouldn’t be for the majority if they were really honest about their real world needs. People who buy vehicles for ground clearance hardly take advantage of it.
We were in the maket for a hybrid hatchback. So the comparison was between the base Civic hybrid & the base Prius hybrid. Civic is stronger in the city, but Prius catches up in the highway speed and with lower engine rpm and much better guel economy especially>60 mph, because the Civic hybrid has a single speed transmission and is not great at higher speed. Civic is bigger inside. Prius has Android Auto and Apple Car Play wireless standard. I prefer Prius' 17" wheels vs Civic's 18" 40-low profile tires. I prefer Prius' stlying, proven hybrid system, made in Japan and I was able to put a spare tire in the trunk well with factory parts. So guess what we have in my garage now?😊🎉
i love my 24 toyota corolla cross xse, hybrid, i really dont notice the negatives you mention about the toyota,.the only thing i wish it had is the heated steering wheel.i remote start for 5 minutes which eliminates having a heated steering wheel.
I wanted the hybrid, but there were none on the lot. The 2025 civic had just arrived and I needed a car as my lease was up. I have the 2025 sport, which is still a great overall car.
I like the hatch hybrid concept but you can buy a boat load of gas for the 10 grand difference between this and some of the other small and decently efficient gas vehicles. Too bad they couldn't have made the battery a tiny bit bigger and just put a 120V plug on the front to top up the hybrid battery and run a block heater so that it would qualify for Canada's EV rebates as a PHEV.
@janoycresnova9156 After tax this sport touring hybrid hatch comes to 47142. The Mazda 3 Sport GS ends up at 35698. Heck, even the base civic hatch ends up at 38751. Both of those are around 10 grand cheaper and are pretty decent on gas. Heck, in my area the Niro PHEV gets 10k off so it even ends up at 37738 and you get 50km+ of EV range every day, though it certainly won't drive like this nice engine/motor combo or the Honda vehicle dynamics.
In the US a hybrid Civic HB in touring trim is around $34-35K. I’m honestly not sure what else you could get that would be even half as nice as this car at $24-25K. I think the cheapest new vehicle you can buy in the US today would be a Nissan Versa and that’s still gonna run you almost $20K base. The Civic sedan is a better value and if you don’t need touring trim SE ones can be had under $30K
I looked up a 2005 Civic hybrid. In 2005, it cost $20,315. In 2025, that’s $32,817. The sedan and hatchback both start under $30k. So it’s still “affordable,” the problem is wage stagnation.
The Prius has more upside than the AWD option. The base model civic hybrid hatchback is more expensive than the base trim Prius (in the US). The Prius has better gas mileage and a more comfortable ride with the smaller tires. Reliability and resale value is also a plus for the Prius. You guys can do better with your comparisons!
Yes agree. I decided to get the base Prius LE instead of civic sport hybrid. Saved couple thousand dollars, made in Japan quality, looks way better and modern, better mileage, standard wireless CarPlay, better reliability, similar power and cargo space.
They preferred the Honda Civic, as did Edmunds and MotorTrend. It sounds like you're suggesting that car reviewers can do better with their comparisons by choosing the car that YOU prefer. Car reviewers don't work that way. They like what they like for their own reasons. However, I will say that MotorTrend was more descriptive as to exactly why they preferred the Honda and why they were willing to overlook the areas where the Prius beat it. With Honda, it came down to things like: A quiter ride at any speed, more refinement, a roomier, quieter interior, a full one second faster 0-60 time (a big deal to car reviewers). Other car reviewers felt that the Prius was more cramped in the headroom department, especially in the rear, and they didn't like the more limited visibility of the sharper sloping front and rear windows. I'm sure that I'm forgetting some things. I've read and watched at least 10 reviews, and they all praised the Prius, but they all preferred Civic by just a hair and mostly for the same reasons that I mentioned. It should be noted that most car reviewers will usually give the edge to the car that is faster, quieter, and more refined over the car that is more economical, dependable, and practical. The Prius might also be a victim of its own success. It was already a very good car before the update, but in some ways, it's just more of the same stuff that previously made it good. The Civic hybrid is probably getting extra points for being more of the new toy in the box. The hybrid is new as far as Civics go and it's faster than the Civic SI that critics liked.
Honda is selling the HR-V with hybrid powertrain in Japan and other asian markets and it's called ZR-V, so hybrid HR-V is already out there. It's just up to Honda to decide whether bringing it to the NA markets.
An important note is that the top level civic hybrid sport touring gets some safety features that the lower models don’t which I think was a big mistake for Honda. Toyota included these same features on all levels of the Prius. Safety should come first.
I really like this car and tried to, literally, get into one, but it’s honestly not very comfortable for people above average size. Considering it’s roomier overall than a Corolla, I still found the Corolla driver seat bigger and had a bit more room for the driver. I’m 6’2” and kind of football guy size and a short test drive in a Civic was enough for me lol. The back was decent but the bottom of the seat was just too narrow for me and I was more onto the bolsters than was comfy. I would’ve loved to have saved a couple grand, but I got the Accord because it was actually very comfortable and much quieter on the road (EXL). That said if you’re a smaller person and can live with the smaller size the Civic is pretty sweet.
Yeah, I’ve heard a couple of other reviewers (full size guys) who equally could not get comfortable. There is a lot to like about this model, great power train and economy, capable and right sized but if it isn’t comfortable (for some) that’s a deal killer.
If it retains the driving dynamics of a Honda and has the reliability of an older Toyota it's a home run in those two categories but whoever redesigned the front end should be fired immediately!
The Civic HB Hybrid is great, but in California, with the federal rebate, you only need to pay approximately $2K more for a long range model 3, I guess I’ll pass on the Hybrid.
@@Komainu959 Yup, Tesla is notorious for its poor fit and finish quality. But don’t forget the 0% financing, $750 in free supercharging, and an additional $1,000 discount through a friend’s referral. On the other hand, we have to deal with Honda dealerships’ insane markups. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no Tesla fanboy-I’m just pointing out the struggles of being a new car shopper in California.
Yea I have no desire for a plug in only car. I live in a condo and there’s nowhere to plug one in and no way to install a charger. All these people pushing for electric vehicles only by such and such year are delusional. They’re a million miles away from any sort of infrastructure to support that.
Have you heard anything about the Toyota BABY FJ Cruiser? Is Toyota actually relaunching the FJ Cruiser? If yes, when and will it be available in Canada?
Super jealous of the hybrid. I got a 2024 and like the turbo but the hybrid seems like a more reliable option. That being said the price isn’t that unreasonable. A 2005 hybrid Civic cost $20,315 according to kbb. That’s over $32k by today’s money. But both body styles of Civic can be had for less than $30k. The problem is wages.
40000+hst and add some extra warranty or tire protection the price would be easily over 50000cad out of the dealer . It just crazy for the Civic it was only25000 for the top model just few years ago.
I watched a press thing from Honda and they showed a diagram with E-AWD. What was interesting was the diagram said rear motors. So I’m really hoping it will be some type of set up like the old MDX/RLX hybrids, but using the 2.0l engine.
Well you’ll be hunting because a lot of companies have been deleting those for years now. And not for nothing you can buy a new donut for under 100 bucks. I did it in the later teens on a BMW that didn’t come with one and it cost a lot more than this Civic lol.
I really gave this one a lot of thought, but especially in Ontario, the insurance is rediculous for an economy sedan. I ended up with a year old Volvo S60 Recharge that gets 455hp and 75km of EV range, all for less up front $ and less monthly insurance than that admitedly beautiful Boost Blue Civic.
Price is a bit steep, but then you add interest rates on top of it. Other manufacturers are offering lower rates. Will Honda and Toyota follow the trend?
A lot of people seem to think it's expensive. I'm not sure. Maybe a little bit, but I think it's probably worth it, and it's at the top of my list now. The Prius has ergonomic issues (for me, always has) and the Corolla is just so dull, lifeless, and stale. The Kia Niro was on my list, although I like that car a lot, this pushes more of my buttons, and although the Niro is nice I trust Honda quality and resale value better.
I would highly recommend a slow breaking in for this car. DO NOT red line it off the dealer lot, keep the speed down to about 65mph, practical steady driving for about 10,000 miles and pace it to a routine. Honda techs know what your mph will be on the first diagnostic (they know everything once they plug into your car) Oil change is recommended at 7,000 miles but I do not trust that metric. Check with your dealer about a 4,000 to 5,000 first oil change. They may say yeah or nay to your suggestion and you have to go with their input as it is their warranty service regs. If you know your geography / landscape choose eco or the normal for hill or flat land for best charging. For me I do not need the nav screen and turn it off as I know where I am going. Turn heated seats off in the afternoon. Dim the gauge cluster to low. Know your hills, coasting down charges your battery. I have mostly got 40.1 mpg but still am learning the nuances of more efficient driving skills as the car does not coast as fast as you think downhill, unless it is really a steep downhill.
It almost seems like Honda is trying to place themselves as a premium level, above the Toyota line. I'm not sure if the substance is there, a glaring fault is the lack of passenger seat height adjustment, something I think is standard on the Camry.
I'm an odd duck in your commentary but I enjoy you just the same. Yes!! The 2025 Civic lineup is stellar from top to bottom for 2025. The Honda civic hybrid is on another level. For coffee cars and such --- is the Nissan merger a beneficial marriage? I've owned both Nissans and Hondas in the past. Nissan was great in the early days, Honda was superlative even then. I think Honda is going to have to take the lead and capture all of resources to create something viable. I DO NOT APPROVE OF THIS MERGER!!!

Loved a lot of the improvements over our boost blue 2022 Civic Sport Touring EXCEPT the steering. They ruined the great Honda steering and nobody seems to be talking about it! It’s vague and delayed compared to the 2022. Both of us agreed. Did you guys notice the steering difference? It actually was the reason we decided to keep our 2022 instead of getting the new hybrid.

@@andreaspencer9813 I think it would be great if Toyota offered a base FWD LE Prius in Canada like they do in the US. It would compete well with lower trim levels of the Civic Hybrid.
@@thembzman The Prius has a much smaller interior than the Civic.
The pricing is insane . I like the looks of it hopefully when they refresh the accord in the next year or two they make it more like the Civic. But for 40,000 I could get a hybrid compact SUV with more features.
In the US, it is around $32,000. Inflation adjusted, that would have been $21,000 in 1990
LMAO
Just bought one last night! What an amazing car! Of course it snowed like crazy last night, so I'm not driving it until the streets dry up, but I am incredibly stoked to start driving my new '25 Civic Hatchback Hybrid Sport Touring. The only big miss I've found is the lack of XM radio!!! Why on earth would they have dropped the ball on that??? Luckily, I found an aftermarket solution that creates an XM interface through the 9" center display.
Got mine delivered Saturday in solar silver. wanted the 200hp and had to go with the hybrid hatch in touring as it was the only one available in the eastern part of my state and I would have to wait months probably for another. The car is way plush for my basic needs and I will have to get used to it. It was under MSRP at $34,000 and got it.
This car can climb some major hills with ease with the 200hp though, no problems just as I thought.
How does it drive in the snow?
@@ericscottstevenshow does it drive in the snow?
@@topranked5465 I have driven over some patches of ice here and there. The lane departure may be triggered as both front wheels if one suddenly is not turning at the same speed or one suddenly has less resistance (a warning on the odo will appear). I think it auto corrects but I may be wrong. One thing I notice is this car is very stable on tracking and steering is firm, it is very hard to oversteer with this.
I have a 2025 Civic Hybrid Sport. Love the car, it's an absolute joy to drive. It's easy to understand why Motormouth and others have named it "car of the year." Honda, did indeed, knock it out of the park with this vehicle.
I don't know what happened to me... For the first time ever I think I got a crush on a red Camry SE! Your suggestion and color choice that you showed was a game changer. As I said, most vehicle models only have one or two colors that don't make it look horrible, or even make it look good, in my book. ha ha now you got me searching for Camry SE reviews
First video I’ve watched from you both. I like your coffee and comparison of the Accord and Camry discussions.
@ Please have a look at my post on the same page, I made a full comment
@ Couple things I would add:
the steering is heavy.
If not, the Government needs to really start investing more into public transportation cause I feels like in 10 years, the Civic will cost over $50,000 easily.
everything went up after the Pandemic
Because its better than all those cars.

not that much better
It's the first time that I've considered buying a car brand new
Switching from a Nissan Leaf to hybrid as I'm tired of range anxiety and dealing with charging. This seems like a perfect upgrade for me.
The toughest thing now is picking a color. I honestly can't decide between dark gray, red or blue. Help! Lol
In the U.S., something like half of all EV owners, when buying something new, are switching back to hybrid vehicles.
This is my 2025 car of the year, too !
I picked up a touring model with grey interior a month ago
We love it!
Looking forward to years of ownership.
Good vehicle. No spare tire ! Suggest have awd option Very Good Review as always
Thanks for another great year of reviews and videos .
And you guys both look great. I don’t know how you don’t age at all.😂
Team Motormouth, I really like the idea of putting the Accord powertrain in the Civic. 😁
I just got the same car/trim in black. Love it.
So good, congratulations!
Zack with a watch that matches the car perfectly. Well done, Sir!
I had to match the car!
Been waiting for this one, great colour and a sleek looking car 💙🎉
As expected. Quality car from Honda.

I test drove the Civic Hatch Hybrid a few weeks ago. WOW! I loved it but for the top trim level $40G is alot of $$$$$
This car truly is the Jack of all trades. Fun to drive, high utility, premium feeling and refined the hybrid drivetrain just seals the deal.
except low ground clearance

So guess what we have in my garage now?😊🎉
I had the same comparison as yours and completely align with your logic and bought the Prius LE as well!
Where did you buy your spare and are you able to store it under or above the trunk cargo lid?
A Chevy Suburban?
The looks are everything for me. Civic hatch wins this one.
@@ericcarson342 the new Prius looks so modern and smooth. The civic is a dated design. But I understand this is subjective.

Hybrid version or regular one?
Sedan looks gorgeous as well but hatch is more practical.
I wanted the hybrid, but there were none on the lot. The 2025 civic had just arrived and I needed a car as my lease was up. I have the 2025 sport, which is still a great overall car.
Beautiful model ! Beautiful color ! Beautiful watch !
Im Glad that it has a Naturally Aspirated Reliable Non-Turbo *2L* Gas Motor :)!!
What are these alternatives that are 10 grand cheaper?
I remember when the Honda Civic was a lower cost alternative. Not anymore!
nothing is 'cheap' these days !!!!!!!!!!
I looked up a 2005 Civic hybrid. In 2005, it cost $20,315. In 2025, that’s $32,817. The sedan and hatchback both start under $30k. So it’s still “affordable,” the problem is wage stagnation.
Totally worth it. Just traded in a 2021 Impreza. Previous vehicle Mazda3, Honda Fit, Civic SI, Civic DX. I bought the top trim. Zero regrets.
I remember when convience stores sold pop in 16oz bottles lol
It’s my dream car
One of the few sensible cars available nowadays. I wish it had real instruments and the navi display moved down to the center console.
Honda is selling the HR-V with hybrid powertrain in Japan and other asian markets and it's called ZR-V, so hybrid HR-V is already out there. It's just up to Honda to decide whether bringing it to the NA markets.
That's the Fit based HR-V, a different car.
@@Motormouth... I think the Fit based SUV is the Vezel
True, but the hybrid doesn't have AWD though. Maybe they still figuring out the AWD system and will implement it in Canada for the 2026 model 😂
@Motormouth... hrv/zrv(civic based platform) hybrid exists outside North America. Available on Asian, Australian, and European markets.
Yes! The front end on the Accord is nice. This front end is unattractive.
How is it for getting in and out for a senior?
For a fun and practical daily driver, would you go with this or GTI? They cost about the same.
They own a MK8 GTI. Not sure why they like this Civic so
Much.
I like that the headliner is black
The Civic HB Hybrid is great, but in California, with the federal rebate, you only need to pay approximately $2K more for a long range model 3, I guess I’ll pass on the Hybrid.
As long as you have a home charger and PV it should work great. Be careful with doing a good inspection of the car on delivery.
Excellent choice.
The Civic Hybrid starts at $28k in the U.S., which is shockingly affordable. Even configured to my specs, it came in at $31k. Not bad, I'd say.
40000+hst and add some extra warranty or tire protection the price would be easily over 50000cad out of the dealer . It just crazy for the Civic it was only25000 for the top model just few years ago.
i'm seriously considering getting one
I liked the sportier dash and rear end on the previous generation a little better.
Quick question….would you be as positive regarding the Sport variant as you are the Sport Touring?
I watched a press thing from Honda and they showed a diagram with E-AWD. What was interesting was the diagram said rear motors. So I’m really hoping it will be some type of set up like the old MDX/RLX hybrids, but using the 2.0l engine.
The HRV hybrid is out now in Australia

I really gave this one a lot of thought, but especially in Ontario, the insurance is rediculous for an economy sedan. I ended up with a year old Volvo S60 Recharge that gets 455hp and 75km of EV range, all for less up front $ and less monthly insurance than that admitedly beautiful Boost Blue Civic.
Price is a bit steep, but then you add interest rates on top of it. Other manufacturers are offering lower rates. Will Honda and Toyota follow the trend?
Highly likely if sales are not good. Now in NZ all Honda range is interest free up to 36 months
Nice car.
I ache for the days when car interiors come in more than all black or gray.
For this price, it should have had AWD like the Corolla and ventilated seats. Rear vents would be nice with a pair of usb ports.

My 2025 Honda pilot black edition doesn’t have a height adjuster on 😮the front passenger seat either .

What is your take on the possible Honda-Nissan merger?
A lot of people seem to think it's expensive. I'm not sure. Maybe a little bit, but I think it's probably worth it, and it's at the top of my list now. The Prius has ergonomic issues (for me, always has) and the Corolla is just so dull, lifeless, and stale. The Kia Niro was on my list, although I like that car a lot, this pushes more of my buttons, and although the Niro is nice I trust Honda quality and resale value better.
Probably what I'd buy if I didn't have home charging. Since I do, I got a Highland Model 3 that absolutely leaves this thing for dead.
I would highly recommend a slow breaking in for this car. DO NOT red line it off the dealer lot, keep the speed down to about 65mph, practical steady driving for about 10,000 miles and pace it to a routine. Honda techs know what your mph will be on the first diagnostic (they know everything once they plug into your car)
Oil change is recommended at 7,000 miles but I do not trust that metric.
Will wait till reliability is proven, and buy in a few years. This price point for new one is somewhat laughable
Great choice ❤🎉
Love mine!
Does this still have the stupid auto engine off feature when you come to a complete stop?
Great choice.
I think I will get a camry for this price

I'm an odd duck in your commentary but I enjoy you just the same. Yes!! The 2025 Civic lineup is stellar from top to bottom for 2025. The Honda civic hybrid is on another level. For coffee cars and such --- is the Nissan merger a beneficial marriage? I've owned both Nissans and Hondas in the past. Nissan was great in the early days, Honda was superlative even then. I think Honda is going to have to take the lead and capture all of resources to create something viable. I DO NOT APPROVE OF THIS MERGER!!!
I'm not a big fan of the new front design. It looks like a massive underbite.
