Heeeey Fallout community! I took a pretty sizeable break between when I first started playing Fallout 3 (January 2024) to this weekend (May) when I recorded the second half of this video. Please be patient as I get reacquainted to the game, and feel free to drop tips and tricks in the comments - just no spoilers please! Thank you again for the warm welcome, I am so excited to continue making Fallout content here on UA-cam!!!
I love you playing Fallout 3! it is my favorite game ever (and all Fallouts). I was same first out of Megaton, scared even of bloatflies, sneaking all the time, and those fire ants gave me hell 😂
Honestly love the playthrough. It always helps me to attempt entering VATS every once in a while, just to check if there are any enemies I can lock onto. That can help identify targets if they aren't easy to see immediately (some think it is a little immersion breaking, but then again so is VATS lol).
If an enemy has antenna and you cripple it, they will get confused and will attack others. PURE CHAOS You can turn your pipboy lights by holding TAB For skills I'll highly suggest Repair, Speech and Lockpick
Tip for using grenades. They can be used in VATS for best results, but if you’re throwing them without VATS, pulling the pin and holding them does not start the timer. The longer you hold the grenade after pulling the pin, the further you throw it
Theres an old man in Megaton that buys Scrap Metal which can be a good idea as it's pretty common and light weight. There's also a common house in Megaton where you can sleep for free. Really been enjoying the playthrough looking forward to more.
you have Tales of a Junktown in your inventory 33:25 when you find named books like that (there are many with different names) you can read them right away, you learn 1-2 skill points from them and you dont have to carry extra weight
The closet with Grady's key is in the room you asked about it in. Turn on your pipboy light and you will see a lot better..Goid Luck. I love watching you play
A frenzied animal means it will attack anything nearby, even it's friends. With ants you can shoot the antennae, but it might rely on the perception skill to be able to target that body part in VATS. Crippling a body part means limited usage, so a leg; move slower, arms; worse aim, head; drop in some attributes and skills, (I believe) until you recover. Don't forget some items of clothing can increase some skills/attributes, and drugs can boost the same until they wear off. Attributes like intelligence will also boost your science , which will in turn boost hacking and may give you other speech options. For example if you are over encumbered you can use Buffout to boost your strength and fast travel to another location for storing/selling stuff. You can sprint. There is walking, running and sprinting. At the moment you are running but you can sprint for short distances which depends on endurance. This uses AP points as stamina. Check the keyboard bindings as I forget which key.
It has been entertaining watching you go through fallout for the first time. I don't want to give you advice on this and that. It's killing me... But in the end you'll figure it out I'm sure. I do love your laugh and smile and your reactions while playing. It is hilarious watching you.
Okey Dokey, three spoiler-free tips: -When you're over-encumbered and have duplicate weapons (like in your case the 10mm) you can use duplicates to repair that weapon. Since you use them up that way you'll also free up some weight. -When your cross-hairs turn red it means you're on target. So, you'll have a good hit chance outside of VATS. -If you don't have enough AP for VATS, quickly go into VATS mode to center on the enemy, go out of VATS and shoot immediately! That way you don't have to keep waiting for your AP to replenish.
Hey just want to say im enjoying your playthrough and glad that your getting into the fallout series i hope you stick with it. As for tips it seems like people are giving you really good ones and hopefully they are avoiding spoilers but i will leave you with a warning... Be careful of your karma if it it gets to high the game will randomly spawn in bounty hunters sometimes that are really tough to deal with at low levels. Great source of exp and gear if you can take them down but a tough fight nonetheless Please play how you want to play but just a warning if you see those guys. Then either try to lower your karma or run away in you cant fight them.
I think it’s awesome that you started with Fallout 3 as your first Fallout game. That’s the one I started with, too. It’s my favorite still to this day. There are so many fun places to explore in this one. Also, there is a flashlight on your Pip Boy. It’s huge help in dark places.
Yes, it can be worth buying a gun or an armor from a vendor to repair with. It's way cheaper than paying someone else to repair your stuff, provided you buy the cheapest, most broken example on offer. Also remember to look for the travelling trader caravans who show up outside Megaton's gate for this. It's especially worth while for repairing Combat Armor, which is pretty rare in the wasteland. Most junk items are useful for crafting eventually, except plungers and burned books and ruined books which are completely useless except to be sold for 1 bottlecap each. But until you have some crafting schematics you can't do any crafting anyway, so you don't have to worry about picking any junk items. I'm a bit of a completionist and I tend to start being a street sweeper and picking up everything to sell, which does make a lot of caps just because there are so many tins can and general crap scattered, but it's also boring and dumb honestly.
In Fallout 3, you can level up VATS by improving your weapon skills, perks, and SPECIAL stats. Here are some tips: Agility Increases AP, which increases the number of shots you can use in VATS. Perks The "Gunslinger" (one-handed) and "Commando" (two-handed) perks improve VATS accuracy. The "Sniper" perk (level 12) improves accuracy with VATS headshots. The "Concentrated Fire" perk increases the percentage by 5 each time you target a specific part.
Best tip is to just play the game, I was in the 8th grade when I first played this game only thing I knew about it was it was some of my friends favorite game. Do the side quests, and explore a good bit, and you will learn more about the mechanics of the game
Take the value of the item and divide it by the weight and if the result is less than 10 it isnt worth keeping if you are going to sell it. For example if it weighs 10 and is worth 50 then the weight to value ratio is 5.
Here's a few tips i just thought of: There's more but this will set you up well hopefully 1. I won't spoil it but Power of the Atom is a very useful quest to do, especially for the long run and early game. 2. Repairing your weapons and armour is important, you'll be more combat effective and save ammunition because of it. You won't struggle with ammunition as much later though. Be careful not to repair with any unique items you may or may not find though! 3. The hunting rifle and laser rifle are good weapons for most of the game. If you can keep them at a good condition and enough ammo, 32. and Microfusion cells. you shouldn't struggle too much 4. Pre-war money in nearly every fallout game is good to collect, it weighs nothing and you get about 10 bottlecaps for 1 pre-war money. you can use it to bolster your bottlecaps. 5. You seem to be a fan of V.A.T.S so invest in perks that improve yours and ones that give you more AP(Action points) which determine how many times you can use it 6. Hold tab or whichever key brings up your pip-boy, to activate it's light when your in dark areas like the metro 7. A lot of the random things are used in crafting, some can be valuable though. I'd take scrap metal when you can, it could be useful at some point! 8. Make sure the quest you want to do is activated and look at the compass in the bottom left for direction. Especially if your looking around in a metro 9. If in doubt press F5
For picking up junk it’s usually best to get items with a good weight to cost ratio. Pre-war money is very good as it’s worth 10 caps and doesn’t weight anything, so it’s basically free caps. Some junk weighs a lot and usually isn’t worth carrying around.
I just started playing this about the same time and the videos have been great. What I find really interesting is that I went in a different direction to yourself so the experience is different (I went west into the wasteland after megaton rather than east) Looking forward to the next one should you keep posting more like this.
On your question 16:24 "is there value in buying weapons from vendors to repair?" no it is not worthy, there is a huge abundance of weapons in the wasteland as you can loot them from pretty much all enemies shooting at you. I see you have not repaired anything yet - you can do it through your Pip-Boy (or press hot key R as Repair) choose the weapon you want to repair, it will show you same or similar weapons you can repair it with (you can repair chinese combat with regular combat for example) always repair the one in best condition with those in worse. Improves accuracy/damage, also helps a lot with over-encumbrance. Do same with your armor.
Lots of ways to make caps, just pick up high $ to weight items and sell excess or unused ammo, meds. Merchants don't have a lot of caps, but they cash up every day(?) or so. I think most containers are safe to store items in for s good while if you want to store excess and sell it later.
You can use the VATS to scout ahead to spot and lock on to possible targets if you need to or are scared in a dark building(like me 😅😂). If it doesnt target anything, all goood, it didn't cost anything but a button press.
@@hockeyfan224 exactly! Great point, helped me accidentally merkin' friendlies or npc many times and save scumming a bunch of times lol. Great to scout if an area is safe or not
I'm really so happy that you uploaded again but don't worry if you need to continue your mental health break! Self care is sexy and we all want what is best for you

@@sarahxciii Just thought to let you know that the Armored Vault 101 Jumpsuit is a unique outfit that cant be repaired unless you pay someone to. but its really good armor for the earlier parts of the game. It also gives plus 5 to Guns and energy guns.
@@sarahxciii Ant Frenzy happens when you shoot and cripple there antenna they cant distinguish Friendly's and Foes so they just attack everything until it dies. Loving your vids cant wait for the next.
My main tip: Especially in the beginning, you could be selling the vast majority of your stuff that you're not using. And the corollary is to pick up everything of value. If the vendor you're selling to is out of money or goods you want, find other vendors in the area and sell the rest to them. I don't think I've ever run out of ammo, stimpacks, etc doing this because I could just buy more. Also if your inventory is getting full when out in a area with a lot of looting, prioritize holding on to stuff that has more Value per unit of weight. Better to keep something worth $100 that weights 5, vs that weighs 20. So yea, actively manage your inventory, and you'll have no issue with buying ammo, simpacks, armor, guns in the beginning. Later you'll just find most of everything you need off of bodies, or areas with lots of stuff.
I go with guns and repair first on the stats. The better condition your weapon the more damage. You get more points to put on your stats with higher intelligence. intelligence
Me too 😀 except the shop lady there is much nicer than Ma June😆 and when Lucy left the vault into that bright lightness it was like I finally crawled out into the light in F3
Love this playthrough you are doing!! I always look forward to the next upload. A good non-spoiler tip is that there are people whose only purpose is they want one specific item not even related to quests or anything. The only ones I remember is some old dude wants scrap metal and some nerd wants pre-war books so I collect them and keep them in my house for a few extra caps.
Loving your playthrough! A couple of tips/tricks...Click on the bomb in Megaton to see what skill you need to disarm the bomb. Don't worry, the bomb won't explode just by clicking on it. The water around the bomb is radiated and standing in it (and drinking it) is an easy way to quickly raise your radiation level. You can check your radiation level in your Pip-Boy under Stats/Rad. 600 rads will NOT kill you. It will only lower some of your SPECIAL stats, until you heal the radiation poisoning. You can die from rads, but 600 is still in the safe range.
The Power of the Atom (disarming the bomb) is a quest worth completing as soon as you can. Don't want to spoil it...but trust me, you'll be happy you did it.
