So we rolled into Iraq and low behold, I hook my static line, I hook up my fuel hose, climb up on top of the tank and it was empty. So therefore my handle was Emptywagon. Around minute 27:00 I love that you brought up the miscommunication because you were probably being really logical as you executed your actions! I find it really helpful how you did communicate (I often don't) and how that happened. Also, I like it when people hold themselves accountable... only because people that hold themselves accountable ( I hope!!
The company that I have been with for the last 21yrs, I didn't communicate with them much, got my loads across the Qcomm, rarely called them for much, had an alternator crap out in the middle of nowhere ID in the wee hours of the morning, limped it a few hundred miles into the TA in Toolee UT, got it taken care of under warranty and continued on. Another time headed east across WY,Sherman hill was closed, so, once again, didn't contact dispatch, rerouted thru Casper to the TA in Ogallala NE to hook back up with I-80, when dispatch came in they wanted to know how I had gotten past the 20 other company trucks that were shutdown in Laramie........told her and her response was 'you can do that'?????...... DISPATCHERS.........

If you have room for it, get yourself a mini electric RV 12 volt fridge like an ARB or dometic, then you can keep things cool easily. They're pricey but work amazing. Coleman even makes a 12 volt cooler that is on the cheaper side but not as good.
Know how you feel. I took a load from the ups regional hub in Salt lake to the old ups building that is off of the 201 and redwood, just to find out they had me take the completely wrong trailer. The trailer I took was a new jersey load. So had to go back and get the right one. Thankfully it was a 10 min drive back to the hub. Classic UPS.

Look on the bright side, another opportunity to perfect coupling and uncoupling techniques, dealing with windy conditions running empty maybe too, doubt you can ever be annoying or boring either Shelby. Vids are always good, nice to learn something new, and to check in and see what you are up to, and how your doing, and that all is well with you all. That sunrise was cool too, thanks for sharing it. Have a great one, stay safe out there!
Within my first few months of driving I did something similar. I was in Texas and was told to get an empty about 80 miles out, turn around and backtrack to load because the place I was at didn’t have any empty’s. I did the 160 mile round trip with the trailer I was told to get, and when I made it back the guard doing the trl inspection asked me why I had four pallets of tiles in the nose. Long story short I had to do the 160 mile round trip AGAIN to get an ACTUAL empty, and had to wait out the weekend since I missed my original Friday appointment. They tried to take the excess miles out of my pay but I fought it considering the company told me the load was a drop hook when it wasn’t, and had me pick up a trailer with stuff already on it by accident..

What you went through is the part I hated in my truck driving career. But it was part of it and you grin and bare it and muscle through the BS and learn from it. I am so glad you didn't get too discouraged and you made it through the day. I am enjoying the videos. Keep up the good work !
This is the reason, I received my handle ( Emptywagon) in 2003
So were you hauling Dispatcher Brains or Sailboat Fuel?

@@bmacd2112 I was the 48th driver to enter Iraq in 2003 hauling JP8, Never hauled fuel before. I was told the day before to go outside the base to fill up my tank at the fuel farm. I broke down right outside the gate. So recovery came told me they will take care of everything and go get some sleep. Next morning came, I looked at my fuel gauge and it was full. So we rolled into Iraq and low behold, I hook my static line, I hook up my fuel hose, climb up on top of the tank and it was empty. So therefore my handle was Emptywagon. They told me I am lucky, because just the previous week a guy hauled water to a fuel farm. His handle was made then. haha!!!

My company has a terminal across from the FedEx hub in troutdale. I'm in and out all the time. It's awesome seeing Mount Hood snow covered on sunny days.
Now that's funny. Your feet are not even on the floor, but one foot floating on the gas. 🤣🤣 🌞
I laughed when I saw that.
I'm 5 2 myself so my one foot isn't on the floor either. Lol
Exactly how I drive mine too. Short people issues.
Lol 5'0 and tippy toe on the floor and barely getting that throttle pressed. If I lower the seat, I can't see out. 😂
Drove over cabbage back in early November and went throught a heavy snow storm, thankfully lots of trucks to duck in behind and follow safely to La Grande

Don't feel too bad Shelby, I've bobtailed 1100 miles before, intentionally mind you but still.
At least you got some great fuel mileage.
I've been doing this 35 plus years always when in doubt call your dispatch
If they give you a hook slip your good if it s text msg the trl # and the text you that your dispatch ed your good to go
Boring? No way!! Real person doing real work. Go Shelby!

Obviously I missed it, but when did BKM get CDL?
I’ve had my CDL since 2016.
@@socal87border cool. just had no idea (obviously)
Love the vlog girl, keep it up. I hate those super early mornings too. Keep strong and think of the good stuff
Shelby I’m not a truck driver but your videos are great. I use to drive a lot between NY and Maryland and the truckers were the best. Stay well and thanks for sharing 👍

Thank you for explaining why you left your truck at the 7-Eleven fuel island while you went to get food. I was thinking that was really inconsiderate and I know you are not an inconsiderate person so I was a little confused. Thanks for clearing that up! And thanks for another great video!

I still love seeing your VLOGS even when you don't think you have anything to say. By the way it is really cute to see your feet barely reaching the pedals. Hopefully someday we will cross paths at the fuels pumps. We tow an RV and I know some truckers don't like RVers, but being a trucker was a bucket list item that never got done. The best I can do now is RV (with a tag along) and admire and respect our American Hero Truckers.

One thing I have learnt from driving for over a year is, if something seems off, it's probably off lol. I always message my boss or whoever's in charge. Just to give them an update, also as a double check in case I made a mistake. Keeping messages is also a good way to keep a record. Never know when you gonna need it.

Very true, but the other thing I've learned in this business is that if something is not off a bit, you spend a lot of time waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop.
