The AD30 does everything from clean to ZZ Top. I think it’s become my favorite Orange amp over the OR50. Each channel acts and plays like a single channel amp. The natural compression is a blessing to players that ride their volume knob.
For old school hard rock this amp is unmatched and flat out amazing. It can do just about anything I need it to. Hands down my best purchase of the past 10 years. Great demo vid!
I've had a Rocker 30 head as my main amp for about 12 or 13 years now. Always thought about adding one of these to the pile but never got around to it. When the new OR30 got announced I wondered if this spelt the end for the AD30. As luck would have it, the local Aussie distributor had one in stock and, whilst still a decent chunk of dough, it was cheaper than I thought it would be. What the hell, let's do it. I've had it for a month now and it's amazing. Can't believe I waited this long. Might have to add that new OR30 too...
I own both. Even though they’re both tube rectified and on paper are “similar,” I can tell you confidently they’re wildly different amps. The OR30 is less mid-focused and has way more gain, has infinitely more low end, it’s a lot heavier weight wise, and is a lot tighter/more articulate. The OR30 has the low end thump of the my 100w heads, it’s kind of nuts. The AD30 is a lot more vintage tone focused and looser. It sags a lot more and distorts more asymmetrically at the phase inverter than the OR30. The AD30 sounds almost exactly like a JTM45 but has less low end. My guess is the JTM45 is the tone it was based on but I haven’t studied the circuits enough to confirm that. Anyway, it’s not that the OR30 can’t sound somewhat more vintage or like the AD30 but they’re just different beasts. It’s worth owning both in my opinion if you can afford them both.
@@K707OR30 Yes! I succumbed to temptation and bought one about six weeks ago! It's worth mentioning that I work in a guitar store and my boss lets me buy at dealer cost. And I don't have kids and a missus to drain my finances. Still, two new valve heads in 7 months is a first. Agreed on the sounds too. Gargantuan! Very different to my other two, but somehow all three very Orange.
YES!!! Glad somebody noticed. I looked up bands that play Orange Amps and I love some Wolfmother so had to go for it. One of my students learned this one a while back so there you go!
Thanks man! Cool idea- those are all excellent amps. Have you seen our rocker 32 demo yet? It was a fun one to film! We tested the stereo features and had a good time. Rock On!
Hey thanks! That’s a great question. To be honest, we don’t have the rockerverb in our store so I haven’t compared them personally. Maybe another orange fan will pipe up and share their experience!
I understand that the AC30 is a head, correct? are there any smaller Orange heads made in UK and also what is the smaller made in UK speakers that matches with these? Thanks
Hey dude. Great video. I'm fixed on getting this amp. Only thing is that the 212 cab is waaaaayy pricey when you add it to the head. Thinking of going with the Marshall Origin 212 A Cab (vertical). My two questions: 1. Are the ohms requirements of the AD30 compatible with the Marshall Origen 212A Cab? For the price point, a lot of folks have said that this is a quality product. 2. Will the AD30 be able to sit atop of the Cab without falling. (I know the Orange 212 cab is built for it heads like the AD30, and I'd imagine the size is pretty standard across the board. Either way, it'd be good to know before pulling the trigger. Many thanks in advance, for any assistance.
Just get a second hand Orange open back ppc212. A lot more affordable than the vertical or the closed back option! I have the combo and its a great piece of kit!
@@bfitz111 thanks, Brian. I actually found a ppc212 vert that was 200€ cheaper than what everyone else was charging, mainly because it was black (people like the orange color as well). Was able to get a deal on the ad30 as well (again, cuz it was black). All said, I can’t wait to get it delivered.
@@PeteMarchica those V30's will need a little breaking in time as im sure you're aware but once you get em sweet, i think they are an amazing match for the sound of the AD30. Play loud and enjoy !!! :)
Brian has you on the right track! So awesome that our youtube community has each other's back while we're away from the computer. Glad you found some great deals! That's always fun. Let us know what you think when you get it all plugged in and cranked up!
Hi, do you think it can do a bright crunch like a Marshall? Or is it naturally darker no matter what? My favourite Marshall is the JTM45 so I'm after a similar sound to that.
I've found that the eq knobs are really responsive - you can definitely dial in a bright sound. It certainly does it's own thing compared to the Marshall sound, but you can for sure get bright crunchy tones out of this amp. Good luck! We still have one of these in stock if you're shopping online. We'd love to hook you up!
He used the single channel AD30 head, but it was not an ‘R’ model with reverb. The AD30R was combo only. I’ve heard some say the single channel is basically the same as channel 1 of the AD30 twin channel but who knows

@@MasonMusicRocks please, review of rockerverb
That Wolfmother tone was so spot on
Thanks! This amp rips!
@@MasonMusicRockssure does! I bought one and it’s now my favorite amp
Nice review. I appreciate the balance between playing and talking, with each supporting the other. Super tones, too.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
I am actually looking for Orange amps because of their clean sound.
They can do well clean! They give off that late 90s Brit-pop kind of vibe if you dial it in just right.
Plenty of good clean tones coming from Orange. I had a TH30 and it’s clean channel was sweeter than the sweetest Fender. Dare I say, juicy.

Love the Aussie ROCK! AND the amp..
Best demo of this amp...great tones too!
Rock on! Thanks so much!
Why does nobody max the master and EQ controls in these demos? Makes for such a nice sound!
Max the master 🤔? Without a power attenuator, you will not be welcome on stage, in the studio and certainly not in your neighbourhood! 😅
As soon as I heard WOLFMOTHER 🔥
The BEST! 🔥
Well done...good demostration of this incredible amp
Hey thank you so much! Do you have one?
My favourite combination, an SG with Orange amp.
It's JUST THE BEST. Glad someone else gets it!
Opening tone came pretty close, man. Throw some 1176 on that, and you're there. Idk how I've missed these amps. I just discovered them. Sounds great.
Love this demo ! :) Wolfmother ! 👌

Woa, did not click on this expecting to hear some wolfmother! Beautiful!
Heck yes! Any band that sounds like Led Zep is good for me!
What model of Tele is this? Is it Fender Performer? Neck pickup just sounds great.
Great review! Thank you
Hey thanks! Do you have one of these or just shopping?
do a/b comparison AD 30 and rocker 30 ???? great run down for a lighter package, HEAVY JCM 800! thanks great vid Kevin

Mine does not like fuzz. Its almost like it cuts out distortion after a certain point.
Interesting! Do you mean like a loss of tone or volume?
i can achieve similar gain with a Rockerverb mki?
Thanks for the demo, very informative!! One question, does RV50 miii can sound like an ad30?
