Such a wonderful video. I am sorry about the loss of the two little ones. It’s good that you show the good along with the unfortunate things that happen. It’s never easy especially when trying to build your herd. As always, love the scenery and beautiful music.

This video was just brilliant; from beginning to end, seeing the new baby lamb, you catching it's mother, swinging her around to upend her to check her, to the small tragedy of the dead twins, to the triumph of the live twin's birth. I loved every minute of it, TOTAL drama. 🥰🥰🥰 Oh yes, the music was so appropriate, at times the singer's vibratto sounded like a sheep - baaaa!!🐑

We have missed you, Sean & Stacey, during your lambing season on the farm. You must be so happy to have some sweet lambs among your own flock. Thank you so much for sharing this! I am so impressed by your ease and knowledge with your sheep. Very sad about the lambs that didn't make it, though. Hope mama is doing okay!! Your rhododendron is stunning, by the way! Best to you both, to the pups and to your sheep! Have a great week!

What a lovely video, despite the loss of the tiny girls... Here in Portugal, we can't leave sheep alone in a field like this at all, due to the (re-introduced) Iberian Wolf population and an abundance of stray dogs. So, shepherds have flock protection dogs that stay with the flock in their absence. A couple of years ago, we lived in a rental with pasture land, but no fences. When the local shepherd brought his flock for land clearing, sometimes, he'd go run errands in town whilst my young flock dog (an Estrela Mountain Dog) and I watched over the herd, me sitting down, and her close to me, but always facing the animals. Sometimes, she'd hear a barking sound nearby from neighboring dogs, and - even though she was never taught to do this - my young Estrela dog would take off running and barking as she went, but she wouldn't go through the herd and disturb the animals. Instead, she circled around the herd, went to see if another dog was getting too close, and if there wasn't another dog, she'd come straight back to me. During these charges to look for threats, she didn't come when called; in her mind, protecting that flock had priority. Very fascinating to watch the genetics of a flock dog / herding dog unfold. Unfortunately, that same herd got decimated one night when they were in their pen right above our property - the local wolf pack had come down the mountain that night and killed and eaten 12 sheep and goats, and in the morning, we found the remnants. Our dogs went wild during that night, so they must have realized what went on. After this, that Shepherd got himself an adult flock guardian Mastiff who would always stay with the flock, but realistically with these large packs of wolves here, a single dog is likely to get injured or killed by the wolves, which is why shepherds with large animal populations run 4 - 6 larg flock protection Mastiffs (Portugal has 4 flock protection breeds: Estrela Mountain Dog, Laboreiro Dog, Transmontano Mastiff, and Alentejo Mastiff)

Sean, that was a beautiful video, I am so glad you made it to share. It shows the amount of work you do to have a flock. I can only imagine how it must have been with the larger flock lambing and how busy that would have kept you. Perhaps dumb question, the two that didn’t survive, do you have any idea why they would not have? I remember you say they probably died before birthing so am curious what can happen as this effects growing the herd. You are a hard working man and appreciate the time you spend sharing your life with us. Take care, stay healthy!
